Honestly, I don't understand the 3-star average -- my experience here was way better than that! The food was fantastic, the staff were friendly and attentive, and everything came out hot, fresh, and flavourful. The BBQ is legit -- smoky, tender, and perfectly seasoned. Portions are generous, and the sides are just as good as the main dishes. The restaurant was clean and comfortable, and service was quick even during a busy time. Not sure if they've stepped things up recently or if I just came on a good day, but I left completely satisfied. Based on my visit, Famous Dave's absolutely deserves 5 stars. We came here while on vacation because my Grandma had a craving for ribs. I was excited because the vibe of this place felt fun. The whole experience was pretty hit or miss honestly. The ribs which were the whole point of the meal were pretty awful, the brisket was okay, the chicken was good as were the sides. Only one of us who ordered the chopped pork seemed to really enjoy their meal. The staff seemed more interested in socializing with each other than helping customers. Reserved 2 weeks ahead for a large party of 20. They put us in the backroom and we would go an hour to an hour and a half between checking in if we wanted drinks or food. Absolutely horrible service. My roommate has a love for Famous Dave's. We often order delivery from here, so I've tried several of their BBQ dishes, and overall your experience will depend on what you order. Their ribs are excellent, whether it's St. Louis style or the baby back ribs. Decently sized and flavourful, as what ribs should be. Their brisket was passable, though for Winnipeg it's good enough. Their burnt ends...oh boy. I've been a huge fan of burnt ends since my trip to Kansas City a few years ago, but the burnt ends here didn't give me back the memories. The sauce was way off and tasted weird. Salad here is fine. Note that I haven't dined in here before, so my review may change if I had a different experience dining in. read more

My first time I had heard about Famous Dave's occurred when I moved to Rochester, MN years ago. I was settling in my new apartment and ordered delivery from Famous Dave's. The catfish and ribs were incredible! I also loved the cob of corn and cornbread. To get my fix required heading back to Minnesota or to another state that had Famous Dave's. To my delight, when I visited Winnipeg, another city that I once called home, I was beaming from ear to ear that Famous Dave's had made it over the border! I visited this Famous Dave's on my birthday last July. It is close to the the Canadian Revenue Agency and Olive Garden. I was planning on going to the latter, but got excited seeing Famous Dave's and changed my plans. The interior looks exactly what the ones in the States look like. You have the various barbeque sauces and paper towels on the table. I was greeted by an energetic employee who seated me at one of the booths. The server was extremely nice and friendly. She told me what the free wifi password was (it relates to swine, which makes sense at such a joint). I ordered the two-meat combo, and chose the beer-battered cod and Texas beef brisket. It came with cornbread, and I chose sweet corn and Wilbur beans as sides. The cod was good. It was filling and had the right flakiness. The Texas beef brisket was wonderful. Yum! I am drooling just thinking about it. I love cornbread. If I had to eat it every day, I could, without any complaints. It's just heaven. The sweet corn was amazing and the Wilbur beans tasted just like the ones I had stateside. You'd think that ordering so much food was enough. Nope, it was my birthday and I wanted dessert, no matter how much that would kill me! I ordered the bread pudding with toasted pecans in an amazing sauce with vanilla ice cream. So good! Even if I didn't have any room in my stomach, I would have ordered this dessert for the road, perhaps eating the ice cream at the restaurant to avoid a melted mess. The server indicated that if I filled out the survey on my receipt that I would get dessert for free the next time I am there. In other words, you could get dessert for free every time you visit Famous Dave's from this point forward. I don't see anything wrong with this procedure! Came here with my wife for my birthday. We were very excited all day. Ordered beef brisket, chopped pork, and burnt ribs. Ordered this for delivery one day. The brisket was dry and chewy. The boneless wings were decent, and the hot link sausage was the best of the three meats I had. I ordered take out and I was impressed by how they packaged the food. I had the onions strings and the Feast for Two. The onions strings and cornbread were good. The beef brisket was very tasteful. It had good texture and flavour. I would definitely order a dish with their beef brisket again. Their beans, coleslaw, and corn were also not bad. The ribs were okay. I drove 25 minutes here to try out Famous Daves and yes it was worth it! They have a separate area for "to go" orders, a much faster way to get your food here. Not sure how long the wait was but at 430 pm on a Friday, there were a ton of people lining up outside the door. I put my order in at to-go area and it was only a 15 minute wait for my order. I really recommend ordering ahead or just using the to-go if you want to try this place on a weekend. And I am thoroughly impressed that my food was perfect after a 25 min drive home - even the fries were still crispy! If you haven't tried anything here before, I'd suggest the "legendary BBQ feast" which includes a full slab St. Louis (pork) spareribs, lemon pepper roasted chicken, 1/2 lb either Texas beef brisket or Georgia chopped pork, coleslaw, wedge fries, beans, 4 corn bread and 4 corn on the cob for $74.99 (serves 4-6). This feast will give you a sampling of most of the menu but from what I've heard this feast will definitely serve more than 4-6. I ordered the "feast for 2" $44.99 - which is HALF the size of the legendary BBQ feast and says it serves 2-3 but it really does feed 4 adults with normal appetites comfortably. The meal lived up to most of the hype as the flavours were very tasty and even the side dishes were quite good! I've never had "real" southern BBQ but if this place is anything close to the real deal, I really have to make a trip down south some real home cookin'! The only slight downside was that the ribs weren't fall of the bone and the chicken and chopped pork were not as moist as it could be. That being said the proteins were all good and I need to factor in the 25 min drive into my assessment. I loved the smokey flavours of the ribs and the chicken had a lemon pepper flavour and excellent dry rub. The chopped pork was alright, I'd like to try the brisket next time instead. Corn bread is sweet but it really helped balance all the other flavours in the meal. The coleslaw was creamy but not overly so and had a nice subtle flavour. Beans aren't my favourite - this is has smoked pork, brisket, hot link sausage and jalapenos but I really didn't taste any of those flavours. It tasted like regular beans to me. The wedge cut fries were very well flavoured, super crispy and absolutely delicious and I am not even a wedge fries fan. Corn on the cob as expected as sweet and perfectly cooked. I asked for extra sauce - the "devil's spit" sauce is medium high heat - very subtle for my palate but a good complexity of flavours. But if you want real heat, OMG, get "wilbur's revenge" - it is ridiculous! Not the type of sauce you want to slather onto your ribs but awesome sauce if you like a challenge. Wings ($11.99) with your choice of sauce, I chose "pineapple rage" which is the 2nd spiciest level. The sauce has an awesome mix of grilled pineapples and habenero peppers - good level of heat but it can be dulled with some of the blue cheese dip. The wings are not breaded here and are smaller here than other places but I really recommend trying the wings if you like spicy sauces. Service was very prompt and friendly at the to-go line. Prices are well priced as a BBQ meat choice with corn bread and 2 sides ranges will be $14.99-$15.49. Larger combos with 2 BBQ meats with corn bread and 2 sides is $18.99-$27.99. But the feasts served family style are the best way to go if you are with a few people. read more

I really am happy that Famous Daves is now in Winnipeg. It was always a restaurant that if make sure to go to when I would visit the USA. Went here for lunch today and I had there pulled pork sandwich. I got it with my favourite side of the spicy mac and cheese. The pulled pork is as good as it always is, and I really enjoy trying all there different BBQ sauces. I'd recommend anybody that wants reasonably priced BBQ and good service to try out Famous Dave's. read more

Visited this location several times since inception, and for the last year or so it's been on a solid decline. I'm sure I left A glowing review on a different account when it first opened... when this location opened we were so excited we went twice on open day We went and had the brisket, which in the past has been beyond fantastic. What we were given on Wednesday night was more in like with a typical roast beef cooked in a crock pot. The servers attitude was poor, the service was mediocrely best. The over all atmosphere that used to be fun and loose is now gone. I want to like it 4 or 5 stars, but the louge is TINY, the prices are quite high for portion size, especially for lunch, and not everything is 10/10. The mac and cheese was OK but I wouldn't order it again (kinda bland and the world's tiniest portion). My boyfriend couldn't even eat his mashed potatoes last time (thought something was wrong with him lol). The corn bread is good but leans toward gummy and underdone, probably so it stays moist. This is hands down my favourite BBQ restaurant in town!! This is better than Loveys BBQ IMO. If you ever go to Famous Dave's, you must order the Legendary BBQ feast! Whether you're there on your own, with a friend or with a group, you must get this feast! The feast comes with a bit of everything, including a choice of Texas beef briskets or Georgia chopped pork (get the beef briskets!!), St Louise Style spareribs, roasted chicken, corn bread, Wilbur beans, potato wedges, corns, coleslaw and toasts. The portion of food being served will feed more than the recommended serving so be prepared to have leftovers! Famous Dave's is a solid 30 mins drive from where I live but I still go there on a regular basis! I think that's nuff said. read more

So famous Dave's ..... What to say well let's just say walked into an empty waiting area and told that we could be seated in about an hour and a half ??? The restaurant was mainly empty and the lounge had 4 people ??? Do these people not want the business. Very unprofessional and just basically lazy service, do not go here !!! read more

We arrived for dinner at 530PM. There are 2 groups of 6 people waiting to be seated and a third impatient group of 6 behind us who cut in front but the hostess noticed us and sat our group of 2 at once which i thought was decent and we were in for a treat of a night. Thats where the good stuff stopped and the evening went to nightmare. They sat us right under an ice cold air conditioner, instant goose bumps. Our male server was very quiet and hard to hear, he did not reccomend anything. Did not smile, i had to ask him to speak up. We ordered the St. Louis Ribs, cause we thought, "You cant go wrong with ribs". Yeash, were we wrong. 6 bones x2 with broccoli, mashed potatoes, and coleslaw as sides. The broccoli was steamed and dipped in butter, tasted deceivingly good but may be the culprit of the following days early morning extravaganza. Next, the potatoes were so hot i couldnt eat them even after 10 minutes of letting them sit. I tried the ribs next. and OMG, these were the WORST ribs I have ever had, anywhere, ever. The 6 bones I ordered, tasted rubbery and under-cooked. The meat should fall off the bone but these ribs were fat laced bones, and also had those tiny rubbery cartlidge pieces which are cut off in other Rib Shacks. The ribs also came pre-cut, tasted cold, compared to the hot potatoes, which also came in a tiny black bowl. These ribs felt like they spent all day under an A/C unit instead of a smoker. The pre-cut ribs looked like they were cut 2 days ago and had about 3 millimeters of visible sauce soaked into the meat like layered sponge cake/ The spongey meat was comparable with tofu or Gouda cheese that has BBQ sauce on it, thou mentioning Gouda and this meat does the Gouda cheese a disservice. This Famous Daves also gave me food poisoning, as the next morning, I spent a better portion of it in the washroom wtih my porcelain flushing machine. What with their uncooked meat or maybe the broccoli was not washed properly, or it could have been parasites from all the flies landing on our food as they served it, table hopping flies. The food was served real fast btw, like quicker than a fast food drive-thru. They should have spent a few more minutes heating the rubber-ribs up in a microwave or some sort of 21st century heating device, cause there is no way these ribs were smoked for hours, unless the fridge they came out of was smoking something funny. With 2 other rib shacks within a few blocks of this famous dive, we will never go back to Famous Daves for a rack of crap again and suggest you never go here either. read more

I was actually excited to try Famous daves since they opened. I just seemed to never have the chance to get there until this weekend. Well first off this might be a review of a different sort because it was not only me and my guy or my kids, this was indeed a party of 25 celebrating 2 birthdays. I already knew and expected long wait times (I'd be silly not to) well my sister called about a month before hand I do believe to make reservations.... sadly was told they do not make reservations that someone had to show up, to hold the table.We actually made a few attempts to make reservations even the day of. Although this seems to be a rule of there's we really thought with such a huge party they would do there best to accommodate. We had several older people in our party who had the use of canes. Well I volunteered to show up very early to get a table so the guests did not have to wait. I arrived at 4:45 pm the guests were not to arrive till apx 6 pm I did tell the hostess that it was rather bothersome to go through this and we should of been able to reserve but I also know she is not responsible for the rules of the restaurant. the front waiting area was quite small and we actually waited till almost 645 to be seated. once seated the experience completely changed we had a man waited (wish I could remember his name) but he took care of the entire table on his own and I must say he was pretty awesome he got everyones drink orders very quickly and had no trouble being very nice to the kids and he must of repeated the drink menu to the kids about 10 times and he did it all with a smile. the food was pretty good. I go to texas very often so I must say the corn bread does not compare. I learned from some real texans and they mean business when it comes to BBQ but for winnipeg, it was pretty good and I would recommend for everyone to give it a try. The prices are comparable to slightly higher of its competitors but you cant even say that because there is no BBQ around. that is based on prices for restaurants in the area My son had the brisket which he loved, he go the potato wedges also very good, and the pineapple thats grilled he was slightly dissapointed with that. he said the taste was ok but he assumed it would be a bigger slice of pineapple. He did not like the cornbread at all. I got a burger and fries... really great fries.. on a side note ive missed fries like this since fuddruckers.... so thank you for those fries.....I am not a fan of the burger though.... nothing was wrong with it.. just not my taste.. i got my son to take a bite he said it was good.. I just had the worst burger for lunch today . I thought the Famous Dave signature brisket burger and famous fries would be a great intro to this place. I was mistaken. The burger was bone dry, burnt ,over salted and yet really bland even with the addition of cheese and bacon. French fries were dry and overly salted. I would be ashamed to serve this at the steep price of 14.99 ! The waitress did offer that I could have something else, but this was at the end of the meal. I went there for a late lunch last week, brisket portion was so skimpy and just strands of toothpick sized strips. Ribs should have been trimmed before they were cooked. Wads of fat everywhere. The food itself was decent and very small portion sizes, but service was terrible. Spilled my coke on the floor right in front of me and had to ask three times in a hour time span to have it cleaned up before it was taken care of. The waiter never refilled our drinks once and never asked how everything was. Complained to the manager about the poor service and was told I could have a 25 dollar gift card sent to me in the mail for the poor service and never received it. I am a competitive BBQ contestant and i can tell you that famous daves is bbq technically. But by the lowest standard. A brisket should melt in your mouth and snap apart. I was served a roast.
