The floor here was strewn with shoeboxes that were simply and sloppily stacked in the middle of the store. I maneuvered around them and found some cute, unique, and comfortable looking shoes. As I spoke with the two friendly gentlemen at the store, I became more comfortable. They told me about how and where the shoes were hand made. Luckily they had my size in the cutest, most comfortable shoes I have bought in years. I asked how much and when the owner said $50 I didn't even blink. Hey, I'm on vacation and I thought the shoes were worth $50. Only to look back later at the picture I had taken of the storefront and the sign that read "Store moving. Everything must go. All shoes $49 or less." So basically this "really nice guy" ripped me off. Bummer! I also found out that everything in South Beach is negotiable. Basically you offer half of what they are asking and then go back and forth until you aren't paying $50 for a pair of shoes. Why couldn't someone have told me this BEFORE I went out shopping!!? Argh. Forced out into thunderstorm with elderly mother and children - no shelter offered…read more Visited Birkenstock Miami Design District, 111 NE 40th Street on July 31, 2026 at around 6:40pm. During shopping we received little to no customer service attention. It seemed like the staff wanted us out of the store because they wanted to close promptly at 7pm. After completing our purchase, a severe thunderstorm with heavy rain, loud thunder, and lightning began. Staff required us to leave the store as they were closing and refused to allow us to wait inside for our ride. No temporary shelter or protection was provided. As they refused shelter, they handed out a few thin plastic ponchos which did nothing for us and are hazardous to the kids. This left me, my 73 year-old mother, and two young children standing outside in torrential rain and lightning. The conditions were dangerous, and the lack of basic consideration for safety was unacceptable. I expect better from a company-owned retail location, especially when vulnerable customers (elderly and small children) are involved during severe weather. The experience left a very negative impression.
