Went in to spend money. Started browsing and quickly realized this store's strong point is their selection and not the way they treat paying customers. The elderly white lady scolded me for looking at the sand spears(you remember me now don't you!) and when I asked to actually get one down TO BUY, I was made to feel as though I was being an inconvenience. I don't need my ass kissed when I walk in a store but Jesus Christ how hard is a Hello? I moved down here from NY and thought I'd seen shit customer service... Congratulations!! You guys WIN! I still bought everything I came in for despite the nasty lady trying to shoo me out of the way. You're a tackle store for fuck sakes. There are actually lots of tackle stores in FL. I have driven/rode past this location for as long as I can remember growing up in Miami. I have never once stopped in until the other day. All I needed was some pilchard to go fishing that night and I will tell you even though I only went in for bait I received the best service, friendly and professional as well as prompt. The second I walked in the door I was greeted and as I walked through the store each employee greeted me and asked me what I was looking for, then one of them lead me to the back to the bait and made sure that I had exactly what I needed and showed me all kinds of options. I wanted some smaller pilchard and the gentleman made sure I got exactly what I requested. Absolutely Amazing! This was my first and only experience so far but being in the service industry my entire life I was very impressed. I will be going back soon and I will update this review as I feel necessary. Had a large inventory but, their customer service is non existent! It was my husband's and I first time visiting this establishment, we've passed by it many times and we finally decided to check it out. First, let me say that they do have live bait (shrimp) but their workers seem like they do not want to work. It seems as if they are there to talk with each other rather than help the customers. Secondly, the older lady at the counter was very rude, she was too busy speaking with a coworker that my husband and myself said hello several times before she even looked at us. My husband bought 2 dozen shrimp and he tried to let her know but she didn't respond so he repeated himself, she finally acknowledged him and said "I heard you the first time" my husband apologize and when it came to pay he handed her cash which she snatched and when she gave him his change back she didn't even put it in his hand she slammed the on the counter! (Maybe it's not a big deal to some but if I give you cash in your hand it's rude to not hand back the change the same way.) So sad because we actually wanted to buy a couple of things from here but decided not to go back. read more

I'm usually here on a pitstop when ever I am going fishing down by Key Biscayne. Either on the boat or off pier. I like the store, I like the people, There usually very friendly and very knowledgeable, They have a decent about of inventory on fishing reels, fishing rods, fishing supplies and a large selection of boating equipment as well. Top brand like Penn, Garmin, Shimano, Rapala, Etc. The one downfall of this place is man they are ridiculously expensive. I'll go on the record and say they are just as expensive as West Marine on certain items even more. This is why I usually go to Capt. Harry's or El Capitan. I have nothing against the store it's in a prime location and I do see traffic in the store, I just rather save the money and go somewhere else. In addition, I am not a fan of there live bait section in the back. Every time I've gotten either shrimp or herring. I get either short changed on the shrimp usually there small and some are dead where I need to let the man know I want bigger ones and live bait not dead bait, and the herring just looks poorly kept, it's doesn't look fresh or feel solid. I will say there Ballyhoo when in season is top notch I have no complaints there. All in all it's a nice store with nice friendly people and great selection but it will sink your pocket because of there prices. Live bait, I rather pay someone throwing a casting net on the pier. One of the few places I enter to purchase fishing supplies. My husband loves to take the boat out, and when we do we always make sure to stop by Crook and Crook. This review is late by many, many years. When I was very young this place was open and things were not as advanced as they are now. There are some guys that have been here for a long time! They always make time for you and try their best to help you with questions or their experiences. Take it from my husband and I. Take their advice the first time! It makes me happy to see this place is still on that corner of US-1 and 27th Avenue. Keep in mind this isn't a WALMART type place. This is a local place and things do run out. Miami keeps getting filled with more and more people every year. It is not their fault if they run out of things. As they say, the early bird gets the worm! read more

What a waste of time!!! I didn't know you could get such a bad service and have so many rude employees in a store in the middle of Miami. I own a boat in the Dominican Republic and every time I'm in Miami, I usually stop at the West Marine to shop, but today I was close to this terrible place and decided to try them. I was going around the shop and for over 45 min. non of the many employees offered to help. After doing my shopping and having over US$350 of merchandise in my cart, I decided to stop at the electronics counter to buy a VHF handheld radio. I couldn't be more surprised when one of the employees turned and told me, "can't you see we're busy, if you want help just be polite and wait for us to finish doing what ever we're doing". I just left my cart on the counter and left the store, they will never see me again. I give them a 1 star, but they don't even deserve a -1 star. read more

Horrible customer service. They treat you like an animal. There's a guy guarding the stairs to make sure you don't steal. A lady at the door asking you what are you here for. I said fishing stuff. I wanted an old penn rod refurbished that had sentimental value to me. They repaired a guide. And that's it. They need to go to school and learn how to treat their customers and that it was them that made Mr. Crook Sr. a rich man when they were across the street where the gas station is today. Extremely overpriced and poor customer service. They have a good location so they can afford to treat customers poorly. I would drive 30 minutes out of the way to avoid shopping here. You can get everything online much less expensive . They don't honor their warranties. We bought a bulge pump at the store with a big logo on the front that says 2 years guaranteed. They took down our info and everything. We came back 45 days later with broken product and receipt. They wouldn't swap it out. They told us they would contact the manufacture about getting us a refund, so they took down our information again and never got back to us, after say they would call in 2 weeks. We called to speak to manger after two weeks and left message. No response. We will never give them our business again. read more

I came in today to buy a rod and reel. The store was super busy but John was able to attend me. I was going to get a cheap combo but he assured me that getting the new BG combo would suit my needs more. As he was getting my braid to spool he was approached by another customer and with ease he called over another employee,Rudy, to finish spooling so he could assist them. Rudy was fun to talk to and helped me pick out some tackle. He listened to what I wanted and made sure I got the right stuff. Before I got ready to pay John came back and made sure I got everything i needed. Thats the service you should expect anywhere. Employees who work well together and are efficient. Terrible place! The employees are so repeatedly rude! They overcharge for the shrimp and treat you like shit. I've arrived 10 minutes before closing and they have denied me service. I would like to expose what happened to me. I was at the store to buy a chartplotter garmin and one electric reel. The seller said to me the prices. I said him that would return on the next day. On the next day, i came back to the store and the seller wasn't, there in that moment. I was waiting. Wasn't for my surprise, a very rude lady told me to take off my backpack and put beside her. I thanked her and said it was not necessary, because it was not heavy. Misunderstood, she told me to put the bag on the floor so I could not walk with the bag inside the store. I found this attitude absurd, because the day before, walked with the backpack and nothing happened. I already bought many products in this store and never happened to me something like that. worse for them, they lost the sale of two products because of an incompetent person,I will not come back and won't indicate this store for any friends. I recently purchased some gear including a pair of boat shoes (for about $25 more expensive than I could online) because I try to support small businesses. After arriving home, I realized that they put two right-footed shoes in the box and I had to drive 45 minutes back to the store in US1 traffic to correct it. The manager didn't offer anything for their crazy level of carelessness. He didn't even apologize for the mistake. Rather, the clerk tried to insist that I provide personal information in order for them to process the return - and was not concerned in the slightest at my frustration. The level of inconsideration and lack of empathy for a customer that was wronged at this store is unbelievable. If I were running a small shop and a customer were treated poorly or even was not 100% satisfied, I'd apologize nicely and give the customer a small something (even a 5 cent keychain with the store's logo on it) for the customer's trouble. Here, I was treated with hostility and disregard for the time they wasted. My advice - stay away! Everything they carry can be purchased more easily, more dependably, more cheaply on your smartphone/the internet. read more
