The style she wanted was not on sale, but the wonderful salesman gave my mom a discount so she would leave pleased. Then he threw in an extra pair of laces. He did not have to do what he did. I joined the Team Footworks Half Marathon training program, which is good and I rewieved it on its own, but through that I started frequenting the store, which has pretty much everything a runner needs, SPECIALLY expert and friendly advise. You will not go there to just buy stuff for your running needs, you go in there because you understand that this discipline is a joint experience where everyone wants you to succeed, so they'll recommend the best shoe for you, no matter if it's the one on sale, recommend the safety items/procedures you need to follow when running on the street and anything a beginner like me requires to not just give up and get back to the couch; while still being helpful and caring for the runner who's been doing it for twenty, thirty years (or longer). And, of course, the training programs on Saturday mornings. They are fun, and push you just the right amount and there's one for every level of training (plus the fun runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays). One thing: if you join the running group, you'll be dealing with socially active athletes all around, so expect to end up going for bike rides and swimming, and happy hours and brunches. I came to Footworks mid-day on a Friday and I was immediately welcomed by their friendly staff. I had picked up running as a hobby about 6 months prior and logged about 200 miles. Now I was ready for some nice fitting shoes and professional advice to help with my knee pain. Since this was my first time entering a running shoe store they offered to size me and check my running on the treadmill. They even showed me how to warm up with the foam roller to help with knee pain. I typically wear an 8.5 but they assured me that was too small and I had to get used to a size 9.5 for running shoes. In 1925, my grandfather Julian Herman Leder opened his first clothing store on Main Street in Whiteville, NC, the seat of Columbus County. He was a Jewish immigrant from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. When he arrived in the U.S. at the age of 19 he didn't speak a word of English. However, Small Town USA appealed to him more than the crowded tenements of New York City. So he settled in a town where his cousins lived. The store, called Leder Brothers, catered to men, women and children, who were mostly tobacco farmers and their kin from Whiteville and surrounding areas. Leder Brothers had a quaint slogan emblazoned on all their bags, boxes and masking tape which read, Shop With Confidence Wear With Pride. That slogan embodied a certain philosophy that governed the retailer-customer relationship: trust. The trust between a store and its customers was paramount and nowadays seems like a thing of the past. Although Leder Brothers no longer exists, decimated by big box stores like Walmart and K-Mart, by the time I was born my grandfather and his siblings owned and operated 22 stores in small towns on main streets across Southeastern North Carolina. In each of those stores, my relatives and their sales staff knew the names of every customer who walked through the door. Shopping at Leder Brothers was like being among family and friends. I mention this fact because Leder Brothers embodied the highest standard of customer care imaginable. Unlike today's sales force operating in what remains of retail outlets, the sales staff at Leder Brothers conveyed to each customer a sense of being among trusted sales people who cared about a customer's needs. In today's retail space, where Amazon's online shopping experience has succeeded in stripping from shoppers any semblance of human contact, and where millennials tasked with selling in brick and mortar stores mark time like convicts counting the days to their release, the embracing sense of customer service reminiscent of my grandfather's era is but a wistful memory. At least I thought that was the case until I stepped into FootWorks in South Miami. This little mom and pop shop has been selling running shoes and apparel for a remarkable 48 years. As soon as I walked in, I was transported back in time to that same feeling of trust I once felt at Leder Brothers. And not in some superficial or kitschy way. But with a real authentic sense of trust that I wish all retail outlets had the ability to convey. The owner, Laurie, greeted me with a warm smile and immediately asked, How may we help you. She then took the time to pull off the shelf herself numerous styles, sizes and colors of Hoka One Ones until I found the pair I liked. Indeed, another running store in town had recommended that I stop by FootWorks, because they had the largest selection of Hokas in Miami, the shoes I was looking for. And I am glad they did. Since I have had total double knee replacements and am not a runner, I wear Hokas to workout at the gym and to walk around in. In my opinion, there are no more comfortable shoes on the market. Plus, they come in a variety of awesome colors and styles. I was so happy with the pair I purchased I went back a week later and bought two more pairs. This time when I walked in I was greeted by Karen and Amber. Coincidentally, Karen had a single knee replacement done by the same orthopedic surgeon who operated on me. Again, the service was impeccable and the prices are the same as those online or at the larger retail chains. If you are looking for running shoes, stay away from the malls and the big box stores. Footworks is an excellent running shoe store which I can't recommend enough! They are so knowledgeable and attentive. I went in for new running shoes which for me is always a little complicated because I wear orthopedic insoles and have very, very flat feet. I explained my needs and I was recommended two different shoes. What really impressed me was that I didn't just try them on and walk around... Instead, Footworks has a treadmill in-store with a camera which records your feet (from behind) so that you and the employee can analyze your steps and posture and truly find out which shoe works best for you. The camera has slow motion features so you can get a good look at the way your feet are landing on the ground. This was helpful for me not only for deciding which shoe I wanted but also for knowing what areas to improve with my running. The employee who attended me gave me tips on exercises to do as well as videos to watch to meet my running needs. "Above and beyond" is how Footworks does their business. Not sure what more I can say - besides sneakers and shoes they do sell some workout clothes/socks, hydration packs, and some other things. It's a go-to store for any runner. With most corporate stores missing that attention to detail in customer service, Footworks really fills in the missing gaps (and more). Cannot recommend enough. read more

I was complaining to my trainer recently about some shin splints I had developed & he immediately told me i HAD to go to FootWorks. This family-owned business has been serving Miami's running community since 1976 and you can really feel the passion & heart that all the employees have as soon as you walk in. I was lucky enough to be assisted by Ralph who was fantastic. First things first, he got me on the treadmill which records your running form to detect ways you can improve. As I thought, I'm a prancer & tend to run on my tippy-toes... NOT good. He gave me suggestions, then pulled out about 7 different shoes for me to try on, each time asking me to jog around the store to get s good feel. While I was a bit embarrassed at first, Ralph put me at ease and I finally settled on a GORGEOUS pair of Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 38. I'm obsessed and haven't felt a shin splint since. Footworks has been around forever, and after visiting recently I know why! The service was excellent from start to finish and I left with the perfect pair of New Balance sneakers. I recently started running and working out more, and noticed my hip was bothering me lots when I ran. A friend of mine who's an avid runner mentioned it may be my shoes - and recommended trying footworks. They do a treadmill test for you, where they show you how you run, how you land with your feet, and determine the best kind of shoe fit for you. I had no idea this was a thing, but I am so happy to have such an attentive sneaker purchase experience! Then, they let you try on and run around the store with various pairs to see what fits best. Although my shoes weren't the cheapest, they were the ones that fit me amazing and I absolutely feel a difference when running. I waited about three weeks to write this review to make sure the shoes were solid, and I have zero complaints as well as zero hip pain! I called to get an analysis for my son that is leaving for bootcamp in 8 days. We came to the store and They did great with the analysis, which was free and watching the video they explained what he could do to make corrections and suggested insoles. Then they put him on the tread again and what a difference in his stride with the insoles. It prompted me to get an analysis myself, and I ordered a pair of Hoka which feel like air. They had great colors but I wanted all black. I love the time they took, how nice they were and the suggestions they made for both me and my son. All of their staff is helpful in pointing me to the right pair and, just like any good running store, you can hop on the treadmill so they can analyze your stride and form more carefully. Besides shoes, I've picked up some nice clothes, especially when they are doing big blowout sales. If you're searching for Gu, Clif Shot Blocks, and other fuel, they have plenty of that, as well as foam rollers, compression socks, water bottles/belts, and more. If you're looking for local races going on or training clubs, they have info on that too. Definitely consider this a one stop shop that's worth the trek if you live far. Trying to save some money, I bought some department store running sneakers at a place that will not be named! A few weeks later, my feet were aching, my sneakers' soles were run down, and I was bummed. The purchase turned out to be a waste of money. I headed over to FootWorks because I had heard a lot of good things about their service. I had intended to try them out but thought their prices would be too crazy. I had visited the store a couple times before to pick up race packets and once to join a fun run (not-so-fun run for me, and more trying to find my way back to the store once I lost the rest of the group! It's 4 miles at a brusque pace!). The prices are high, but luckily when they have sales, they have really good deals! I had to ask for help, but the sales person apologized for spacing out immediately. His first question was, "Would you like me to try to save you a buck?" I was in heaven. We headed over to the sale area and went through the process.... You run briefly on a treadmill while your gait is recorded. (They say "the camera adds 5 pounds"... I'm sure my calves are not actually that huge!) Then, he told me what issues I was dealing with, and I was able to inform him about other problems that I've experienced. He picked out a few shoes and left me to choose. I liked that he was not pushy, and that he gave me some space to decide, while still being available to answer questions. If you have any issues with sneakers, it's definitely worth spending a little more here to get what you really need. I've been going to Footworks since 1998! They are the best! For a small store, they have a surprisingly large inventory of many different brands of shoes. The owners and employees are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They even have a treadmill with a video camera so you can do gait analysis and really be sure you are in the correct shoes for your stride! They carry Hammer nutrition products which is a HUGE bonus for me... I love Hammer but the shipping is ridiculously expensive. It's nice to have a local source to get them from. I probably wouldn't buy clothing here as the selection is really limited. It seems like they are opening a South Beach location as well! read more

Can't believe that I have never yelped for Footworks....been going here for years. It can honestly be said that when you think of a running store in Miami then Footworks is always mentioned for a reason - they are simply amazing. Stepping into the store you get greeted right away with friendly people who are willing to help and know so much about their products. Seems to me that every staff member is a runner because they always share their personal experiences. They always ask or suggest getting a gait analysis which is super helpful when looking for new shoes. They always have the newest shoes but also let you know about their end of season sales which I think is a nice touch. Look what it comes down to is this...when you want a trusted adviser in running...then you come here. The have great gear too which is always nice to check out and a HUGE selection of supplements, vitamins and proteins all to help you be a better runner. I've been having trouble finding the right workout shoe as I've just been buying size 9 1/2 off the shelf because that's been my size all my life. For the last six months I could not find a shoe thats fits comfortably after I wear them for few workouts. I've actually donated about five pair of shoes to Goodwill because I just couldnt figure out why once I started wearing the shoes I just wouldn't get the right feel. I recently joined a "bootcamp" style gym and I really needed a good, stable athletic pair of shoes because of the different variety of workouts. Luckily this lead me to Footworks. As soon as I walked in I asked for help and that's exactly what I got. After having my feet professionally measured I found out that I no longer wear 9 1/2 shoes I needed a 10 1/2. The staff had me try on about 10 pairs of shoes to find the exact fit I needed. I spent about an hour there and everyone was very patient and helpful. It was like I had my own private shoe army helping me win the shoe battle. It was awesome. I found the perfect fitting pair of shoes made by a company called Inov8 which designs shoes specifically for crossfit. I've never heard of them and would never buy them off the shelf but after last nights workout I LOVE them. Finally I have the right pair of shoes. What a wonderful experience! I am not a runner, but I really really want to be. My bucket list has always included running a half marathon and I decided that 2015 will be my year to do it. Before embarking on such a lofty goal, I needed the tools. My friend has been in their running group for a while and suggested I get my shoes there. the experience was great. After running on the treadmill, the staff was super helpful about explaining and demonstrating how to run properly and finding the right shoe.
