We also got to try Eddie's special, which was a great bonus. Even though we arrived close to closing time, the service was friendly and the meal didn't feel rushed. We had high hopes that were crushed very quickly. Generally, we wait for a second chance visit before a review but I doubt we will be back. My daughter was in town from Missouri but grew up with Fancy Q's on Saint Simons. Hence why we had high hopes. The entrance was shabby but looks can be deceiving. We waited at the front counter and it was odd for lack of a better term. There wasn't a designated hostess just some busy waitresses taking turns seating people. It was busy on a Friday night, but not busy like some of the other places in town. One group was seated prior to us and our wait wasn't horrible. The waitress, although kind, was wearing something akin to bed clothes. All the staff had on random clothing. My husband said the "individuality" was a bit out of hand. She took our drink order and got us a high chair. She brought back the drinks and forgot the one beer that was requested. We all got a complimentary clear soup and my daughter asked about the Eddie roll that has been complimentary since forever. That roll and the beer came out just before the rolls we ordered. We all wanted squid salad but they only had one left. We definitely appreciate my grandson's food being very fast. Unfortunately, it was not cooked as requested and extremely chewy with very little meat. We ordered 5 rolls and only 4 came out. We also had to request bowls for soy sauce. My daughter watched us eat because her forgotten roll never came and we told them to put it in a to-go container. No offer to compensate and we really just wanted to leave anyway. Our rolls, were good but for $130, I think we will be going back to Saint Simons if we ever again crave Fancy Q's. Overall a giant letdown. Maybe we had too high of hopes. read more

I've been looking for good sushi and to date this is the best I've found in coastal GA. My family and I went at 430 on a Saturday and that is the perfect time. Literally no one but us were there. Soon after the place started fillinG up. The staff seated us quickly and brought us a complimentary Eddie special? (That's what it sounded like) and miso soup. The special was a deep fried crab and cream cheese roll I think. It was sweet and crunchy with the right amount of crab. I wouldn't order it bUt it was a nice surprise. The miso soup is very good all of my kids devoured it to my surprise. All the food that was ordered came at different times which to me is less than ideal. Some came out 10 minutes later. The chicken udon is phenomenal. Tons of chicken the noodles were perfect. My kids ate all of it. The chicken and vegetable tempura I think had ginger in the breading it all seemed to have a bit of ginger flavor. The texture was perfect. The sushi nigri was very good. The best I've found in GA so far. I had to ask what each fish was when they brought out the platter, which seemed odd bc usually the fish are announced with the platter. That's a small thing though. This place is amazing. I went there for the first time the other night and we had to go back again. The Eddie special that they give everyone is out of this world. I when I went back I had that for my main question that's all I ate. it was unreal. They've got all kinds of sushi. They've got teriyaki. They've got hibachi. They've got tempura. They've got it all. You've got to try this place. My kids love it and they're the ones who told me to go and it's just taking me forever to get there. My boyfriend is in town working so we stopped by and picked up sushi to go, only took 15 minutes. It was some of the best sushi we've had and we LOVE our sushi dates! We got the crunchy roll, shrimp tempura roll, and snow mountain roll. Fancy Q claims that fish served the day AFTER being caught will be a huge disappointment (superlative added for emphasis) and only serves it if had been innocently swimming around the day before. Been here many times. It's a favorite by many of the locals not just because it's the only place to get sushi but they serve a large selection of tasty sushi rolls. Their service has always been good even on the busiest nights. Prices are very good as well. If you like japanese steakhouses you'll like their food. I went to Waycross on a business trip and I was craving sushi. I was trying to find something well known on yelp and this was one of them. I have to say that this place was awesome. The people who work here are all super friendly, and they weren't upset that we rolled in at 9:59 (they close at 10:30). I was surprised that they not only have a soup but they also gave us a tempura appetizer on the house after we had ordered. The rolls we ordered came quite fast and they were beautifully presented. Delicious miso soup for appetizer along with tempura crab and shrimp also Complementary. I was really looking forward to a good Japanese dinner when I was told about this place. The person who recommended it went with me. I had shrimp tempura and he had two sushi rolls. My meal consisted of onion rings, sweet potato slices, broccoli, and shrimp. Honestly, the broccoli was the most palatable part. The shrimp was inedible. I will eat plain boiled shrimp without any seasoning and still like it, so if someone can manage to prepare shrimp that I can't eat, things have gone very wrong in the kitchen. Further, my companion was also unable to eat his food. He was embarrassed that he had recommended it to me and thought that perhaps they had hired different cooks since the last time he had eaten there. I gave a second star because the rice wasn't bad and the atmosphere was pleasant. In all honesty, the best part of our meal was the free fried imitation crab sample. read more

I always love coming to Fancy Q's. I'm not an adventurous Sushi person and this place is not intimidating when your just getting into sushi. The menu is very descriptive of each roll. The hibachi is very good also. Our only problem when coming here is that usually we over order because we can't decide on what to order and just order a little of everything. The restaurant is clean and decorated in the usual Japanese décor. The staff is always pleasant and we usually getting seated without much wait time. Never been disappointed coming here. Growing up all over the country, I've had the opportunity to sample Asian food from corner to corner. I would have to say the environment was great. It had a very nice, intimate feel to it. The service was okay and the food was sub-par. It was a surprising find for such a small area. My friends LOVE going there and have no qualms about visiting. I suppose my experiences elsewhere spoiled me a bit. All in all, I would recommend this place, however, expect to pay a little more than what you may expect to get. read more
