I went to the establishment thinking it was a buffet. Years ago, there was a wongs palace in my local town, and it was fantastic, buffet style, take out, or order from the menu. I was sad to see it close. This place , no second chance. Parking is limited, and seating is limited. The egg rolls are awful. My wife and I just finished an early dinner at Wongs Palace Restaurant. My wife had the orange chicken and it was the best either of us has ever had. The orange sauce was amazing. I had the Seafood stir fry and it was great too. It had big chunks of lobster in it and lots of veggies. The service was friendly and good. The place was clean and well appointed. I have to start this out by saying I am pretty picky when it comes to Chinese food. We ordered: Spring Rolls - decent and the goodness stooed there. won ton soup - bland broth. I have been coming here for years, but today will probably be the last. They need help bad and I get it, but don't open all the way of you don't have the help. I loved this place when Mr. Paul was alive. Unfortunately it has gone way down hill. First there 3 tables of people in the place so it was not crowded. It took over 30 minutes just to get the drinks. The rice (something anyone working in a Chinese restaurant should know how to make) was rock hard. The soups were Luke warm at best. The chicken was cold. Wongs Place=Wrong place for Chinese food The presentation of food was cute. Rice comes in silver platter separate from dish which would make it easier to heat up evenly if I actually wanted to take the food home. Unfortunately, I was extremely unimpressed with the flavor of my dish. I don't think of myself as a picky eater, but in this case, I could hardly eat 1/4 of my meal due to the extreme lack of flavor/spice/anything to make the dish stand out. Now if you're into Americanized dishes like General Tso or Sesame chicken-- this place may be alright. But as for me I will not be wasting my money here again. Decided to try this place close to my Hotel after reading good reviews. Pleasantly surprised for being such a small place in a little town. The wonton soup was flavorful full of beef, vegetables and wonton. The waiter suggested Wongs mixed vegetables and beef not on the menu, turned out this was an excellent choice. I'm updating this review to reflect some recent changes. Wong's has been closed for a period of time due to fire damage during which time they rebuilt. Reopening after such events can be challenging, but I am thoroughly impressed. The interior has undergone a major update and looks amazing. The remodel means the rooms are much brighter and more modern. The restroom area is now easily accessible. Despite the long closure, the food remains of a high quality at a reasonable price, pretty much identical to before. I gave Wong's Four stars because eating at Wing's is a gilty pleasure and a blast from the past. The locals love it because you can get a cheap, hearly Chinese meal with great service. The Deep fried egg rolls are large, hot and tasty. Mongolian Beef is pretty much beef and onions in a thick brown sauce and the General T's Chicken features chunks of batter, deep fried chicken in a spicy sweet/sour sauce. Pork fried rice is hearty. I have lived in Waycross almost my whole life and this restaurant is a big part of the community. I travel a lot, in fact I'm in another town, city, or country more than I'm home in Waycross. I will admit that the food can be hit or miss after the fire but most of the time it's still the same food with the same great taste we all love. I have eaten at many Chinese restaurants all of the the United States and they all seem very similar and just simply don't compare to Wong's ( unless you catch them on a bad day ). I was disappointed after trusting the reviews. Maybe it was because we went on Saturday between lunch and dinner. The menu that we were given was an abbreviated version of the one in the pictures. Whatever reason, the food was unseasoned and very bland. I had the chicken chow mein. The pork in the pork fried rice was grisly. The pork egg roll had this crumbled pork that was weird tasting. My husband had the general tso and he said that there wasn't any heat to it. He said it tasted like the chicken was microwaved. I really can't figured how this place gets such great reviews. The food and service is excellent.The Tang family treat their customers like family.Barbara, who works there is always ready to make sure you are seated and your order taken care of.She is an asset to this restaurant.We were saddened to hear about Mr. Tang's passing,but his good work ethic along with his wife has made this business what it is today& I feel it will continue to serve its customers the best of food,just as if Paul was still there.
