    amaebi / sweet shrimp sushi
    Vicky N.

Came here for my anniversary! Had a reservation but the place was undeservedly empty. It's a smaller restaurant on the corner of the street and we found street parking. The tables are intimate, and lighting is natural. Being by the ocean makes it a perfect place for a date! We took a look at the menu and ordered the sashimi deluxe and toro sushi. Our server let us know that they had oysters (kumamoto) fresh, so we ended up ordering that along with amaebi sushi later on. The first thing that came out was the oysters. It was half a dozen for almost $30, but sadly we did not enjoy it due to the soy sauce drenching it. It was way too salty so we had to pour the soy sauce out and squeeze these two thin lemon slices. The sushi deluxe was amazing, melt-in-your-mouth, tender, buttery, everything you could ask for in sashimi! My personal favorites were the tuna, scallop, and halibut. It's a great platter to share with another. The toro sushi was soft and not fishy at all! It wasn't too fatty which I prefer. The amaebi was slimy similar to cuttlefish, so it was a little strange. The fried shrimp head was fantastic though, like a little chip at the end. They also gave us mochi for our anniversary which was really nice! In conclusion, please give this place a try if you love fresh sashimi (and maybe skip the oysters)! Service was good and food was better! I'd love to come back(:

This place has easily turned into one of my go-to sushi spots in the South Bay. They consistently have high quality, fresh fish. Also have amazing nightly specials and a lovely happy hour menu.

Very cute place in Manhattan Beach. Ambiance is intimate and cozy. Food is delicious and came out so fast!!! The staff were very friendly and constantly checking in with us/filling up our waters There's easy parking in a garage right across the street on the corner of rosencraz and highland.

This place is great, the service is great, the food is good, and the setting is very cute. It's like a Japanese beach shack off Manhattan beach :) Went around 3PM on Saturday and it wasn't busy so my family had a cute experience. They have a great set menu option with dine LA as well as a good variety of sushi, rolls, hot food, and other appetizers. Would recommend checking out with a group size 2-4!

My favorite little corner of heaven. I love when I have an early day and can catch their happy hour. Nestled on the corner. With a back wall of windows, it's the perfect place to sunbathe and enjoy the sea, by the sea! I ordered the Ceviche, a Spicy Salmon Handroll, and Salmon & Albacore Sushi. Always fresh, buttery. Quick service and you can't beat the price. I always leave full and content.

Love that FanSea Sushi is located on the north side of Manhattan Beach because it is directly across from a parking lot and it is not quite as busy as near the pier. It was not too busy on a Sunday evening. Their menu and pricing were reasonable. The scallop was good. Fish seemed fresh. Service was good. Overall, a nice sushi place in the area.

Love their specials! I'm glad they have more customers now 2024. Ambiance is nice; interior is clean/woody with beach view. Servers could practice the menu a bit more.

Late lunch for the hungry guy. I had lunch at 1pm so I'm wine-ing instead.

Pre-school snacks were Wheat Thins and tomato juice or a snack package of nori or cuttlefish. Thank you Cheryl for introducing me to Japanese food - it was a brilliant distraction to the news of the day. I remember sitting still on the swings as the numerous aftershocks rattled the city and we held onto our little packages and crunched away. That was a time where Japanese meals meant special trips to downtown L.A. and where I learned to love sushi, sashimi, ginger and real wasabi. These days we can find sushi on almost every corner. Sakura (within walking distance) and Sushi Sei (a short drive) were my favorite spots to belly up to the bar and enjoy sake and sushi while chatting up the chefs who got a kick out of our limited knowledge of the language: Hajimemashite was how we'd start the meal and maybe 30 minutes in we were buying the sushi chefs Sapporo or sake shots and just like that we had friends in the business. He wanted sushi, I wasn't hungry but I agreed to drive so he could enjoy sake and sushi and my company. We were headed to a completely different sushi joint but my head was on auto pilot and ended up parking about 2 miles away and I wasn't about to make the walk. Across from the parking structure was a little place neither one of us knew and a quick Yelp search and wholly Kanpai! 5 star rated Fansea Sushi is now a favorite and at the top of our sushi list. Quaint and bright and all the comforts of a terrific sushi joint. Service was superb and as the evening progressed the little multi-level restaurant was filling fast. He loved every bite and I'm glad because when he ordered 2 of everything and seaweed salad I was worried he would be too full. Not even close - he went on to order the Yuzu Cheesecake for dessert - Deeeeelicous! He boasted "everything was fresh, beautifully presented and super tasty" so now I can't wait to visit again to experience the same. We ended up enjoying a bottle of wine (instead of sake) - the only change I'd make is next time I'd ask for an ice bucket to keep the Chardonnay chilled and maybe ice for the water. This place rocks and it won't be long before our next visit. "Sea" you soon Fansea.

The sushi at this place is absolutely amazing! The fish is so fresh, and every bite is full of flavor. It was such a wonderful experience

I ordered from a delivery service, so I can't answer for the ambiance. We ordered seaweed salad, eel roll, two avocado hand rolls, sushi rice and gyoza. The food was ok, nothing amazing, nothing really stood out. The portions were kind of small but again - pretty average all around. Maybe in person it could be better?

The vibe is very classic, no-fuss tiki bar, and they have two pool tables inside, which adds to the laid-back feel. The drinks were great, and everyone there was really nice, which made the experience even better. The only thing I'd say could use some improvement is the music. Omg, I was definitely wishing the playlist had a little more energy or personality. Better music would take the vibe up a notch for sure. Other than that, the drinks were solid, the people were friendly, and I had a great Saturday night. I'd definitely come back for a casual tiki drink night.

No mint on top, zero lime flavor, but a cherry on an umbrella. I literally took one sip and pushed the glass back to the edge of the bar. Not one bartender or bar back came to check on my party after sitting our drinks down. After about twenty minutes of being ignored someone came and grabbed my husbands empty glass but left my completely full glass sitting on the bar mat. Another ten minutes or so of still not being checked on and we finally decided to leave. I'm out the twelve bucks for my drink but I consider it a twelve dollar lesson in not coming back here again. Sadly, the only reason we chose to get drinks at this bar was because I insisted I wanted a drink before heading home.

We came here to celebrate my cousin's graduation after she became a doctor, and it was the perfect place for a special occasion. The food was delicious, rich, flavorful, and satisfying. He was attentive, friendly, and always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. One thing to keep in mind: it can get pretty windy up there since you're close to the airport, so bring a light jacket or dress accordingly. It's located inside a hotel and the rooftop was decorated with florals and there were couches near the fire pits. If you sit at the fire pit, the table is going to be super small by the way. I ordered the grapefruit grove, but they ran out of grapefruit so I had to sub for pineapple. The drink still tasted good. My friends ordered the bird of paradise and the LA fruit cart and they liked their drinks as well. For food, we all tried the flora fries, garlic parmesan wings and the ahi tuna poke nachos. This is where it was lacking. I only liked the flora fries. They were crispy and garlicky. However, the garlic parmesan wings were extremely bland. I couldn't taste any flavor, we had to ask for some salt. The ahi tuna poke was not what i was expecting. I literally got 4 small pieces of tuna on some crispy wonton chips and it was $23 lol. Overall, if I were to come back, I would just come for drinks and ambiance but not the food.
