What a great comics and game shop! I like everything about this place. From the moment you walk in, it's not your usual crummy comic book shop. The shelves are nice and the books are displayed like they are at a high-end bookstore. The games are organized by categories, and nicely displayed as well. Plus, there are tons of cool "extra" items that are fun finds like dice trays and other handmade items you won't find online. The play tables in the back are cool also, but the main thing that made this place so nice was the service and attentiveness on the part of the staff here. I wanted a recommendation on a game, and they took their time showing me various options, without seeming bothered or too busy. It's a waste of time. Their new stock is under ordered unless you preorder ahead of time and get an account. They barely have any back issues to go through. They charge you for bags and boards. They remove stock from The shelves when a book is "hot." Graphic novels are barely in supply. They have sales they announce on social media but staff know nothing about it (so owners aren't talking to each other or to their employees). Big pass. Find a different store. read more

Since the first time I walked into Fantasium Comics and Games (formerly Spy Comics), I knew I had found a shop that I could look forward to walking into. The owners and staff are knowledgeable, and are quick to make suggestions based on my tastes. Like many comic shops, customers can "subscribe" to titles, but unlike many shops, the staff remembers loads of customers, their box numbers, their titles, their names, and their tastes. The selection is great, the service is wonderful, but probably my favorite thing is that I will pop in for a quick purchase and wind up chatting with the staff and even other customers I have never met before for the better part of my free afternoons. A relatively new service is the hosting of various role-playing games (D&D, MTG, Pathfinder, etc.) in the store, sometimes for free, sometimes for a small fee. There are also periodic giveaway promotions and big hullabaloos for special occasions. There are also consignment artworks for sale at most times from local artists, and even CDs from local nerd-friendly bands like Kirby Krackle. Yes, this is "my" shop, so I am a bit partial. I have been going to this location for almost four years now. Still, there are plenty of options out there, and I still go back every week. read more

Staff is always friendly and helpful. I've been going here off and on ever since they started, and never once had an issue or concern. Most recently, care was obviously taken in how they have the store staged to handle Covid-19 concerns. Overall, they make me long for the days when I had more spare time to read comics so I could start up a subscription and frequent them more often. For now though, they'll continue to be my first stop whenever I want a new board game or comic. read more

Fantasium is an impressive comic shop located in Federal Way! I went here during the free comic day and it was very busy but unlike some comic shops there was not a line overflowing out the door to get in. They had a good arrangement with a canopy outside with what merchandise they had on sale for the event which made getting around the actual shop quite a bit easier. I don't collect comics quite as frequently as I used to... mostly due to the expense but occasionally I do get something. I like going to comic shops mainly to look at the specialized action figures many of these kinds of stores stock but this comic store is more geared towards the comics themselves (big surprise, right? Lol!) and for the crowd that is into board games and such. A whole portion of the store was devoted to those that do games. While I didn't exactly find what I was looking for Fantasium has a great selection of comics from the big, mainstream companies as well as independent comic publishers as well as a solid selection of hardback graphic novels. read more

Awesome comic book store!! Great customer service! The store is clean and spacious! I called to ask if they had a particular comic book in stock. They only had two left. They reserved one for me over the phone and I just gave my last name. Picked it up later that night and had no issues. I opened a pull box and was told I would be notified by email the day prior as to when the next comic book comes out. I will have 2 weeks to pick it up. I've been going to Fantasium Comics ever since. They have a wonderful selection and will order anything that's not in stock. I'm a big fan of Fantasium. It's well stocked, organized, and female friendly. I've shopped the other local comic stores and they are a far cry from the level Fantasium is operating on. The staff is very welcoming and helpful, if you need it. I appreciated the non-judgmental guidance I got the first time I bought bags and boards for my growing little comic book collection. I figured they were all the same... (Hint: they're not!) I always find what I'm looking for when I'm picking up single issues. And there are plenty of graphic novels that are on my wishlist or that I already own and am happy to see on the shelf. (Go buy their copies of Blue Monday before somebody else does, if you know what's good for you!) And I'm not much of a tabletop gamer, but there is a big wall of games, dice, and etc. Some toys and action figures, but not a huge selection. Lots of cute little keychains, buttons, and magnets if you're looking for a trinket to flaunt your nerdy pride. They host regular game nights and community events that always seem well attended. I had a great time at their anniversary event last month, Paula (the owner) is awesome! As an avid D&D gamer I was trying to find a place since I just moved into the area to play some D&D. Too many shops only do Magic the Gathering. I finally showed up and took a look around, they have a variety of games, it was good to see a well rounded store! The staff here is amazing and even told me they would be a neutral place if I ever get a tabletop group together! Everyone here is knowledgeable and friendly, and I am glad I found this place!! My husband first visited this store when we were just getting into comics. One of the girls recommended Saga for me and it's been true love ever since (with the book and the store!). All 3 girls are always willing to make recommendations and they will immediately search for/order anything they don't happen to have, like new books from 451 Media. Fantasium is also really into supporting artists and hosting events. They recently had Rat Queens' Kurtis Wiebe for a special in-store, and they're getting ready to host a Skype event with Bitch Planet's Kelly Sue Deconnick. So awesome! I'm into all sorts of geeky pursuits, but I know next to nothing about anime and comic books. My 14 year old cousin is into anime, and I want to encourage her interest in it so for her birthday I decided to find her some comics. I called Fantasium looking for something that might work and after a quick chat with the gal who answered the phone, I decided it was worth checking out. I was so impressed! When I arrived the gal was ridiculously helpful. She took me straight to the Manga section, and when I told her I was hoping for one in color, she let me know that Manga is only in black and white, and then took me to a different section which had more of what I was looking for. She didn't make me fell silly for not knowing, something I greatly appreciated. She steered me toward a few age appropriate, gorgeously illustrated (and colored!) comic books. I could tell that she was excited about her recommendations, and that kind of excitement is contagious. I picked out a couple (Wizard of Oz and Amulet) that I think my cousin will love. It seemed to me like there was a great selection, and everything was very organized. I will be going back for my cousin, and possibly for myself as well. Went to get comic-con tickets here because they had out online. Paula was super friendly over the phone when I asked how many they got. Everything went smooth and she was super friendly. While this might not seem like some sort of extraordinary thing, sometimes in comic book stores you get some pretentious 17 year old who doesn't have the time to answer your questions, or I swear one time it was the literal comic book guy from "The Simpsons". That said, this one is entirely different from what I expected and I'm happy to say I'll be going back to catch up on my walking dead comics. read more

What an awesome store!! Mike and I were helped by Sarah today and she was SUPER helpful and knowledgable and extremely nice. We are complete newbies to graphic novels and role playing games and never felt stupid about it :). She helped me figure out what's going on in the Buffy universe Now we're excited to attend our first ever beer and board games night and learn some more! Thanks Sarah!!!! Pretty cool shop! Been in here a few times so far. Hopefully we'll be able to make some magic or dnd events now that we live much closer. Stopped in the see about some magic cards once. Then, on another trip I picked up a dozen or so dnd miniatures. Plus one more stop in to check on what kind of events they run. Each visit has been very nice. The employees are friendly and helpful and engaging. The one visit in the summertime was a bit warm... But nothing up here seems to have freaking AC :/ maybe they do have it and it was inop? I dunno. I really enjoyed this place. I met Rick and he was a cool guy to talk to, who was knowledgeable and engaging on a variety of subjects within the nerd spectrum. As someone who's never been majorly into comics I still found this a cool place to look around, with fair pricing, good selection, and the staff (including animals) added a lot to the experience. We got our son some Starwar's The Clone War books for Christmas and a comic book of Star Wars to get him started. We got all of it for under $35 and got a killer awesome card to boot! Ok, so I think this is a great store. I came in here a couple weeks ago because some friends and I are wanting to get into DnD. None of us really know what we're doing or how to play. I talked to the lady behind the counter. I'm guessing is the owner? Not entirely sure. Anyways, I talked to the lady behind the counter and told her of my situation and she walked myself and a friend over to their tabletop section. Instead of selling us what we wanted, which was DnD. Which all 3 books you need are like 30-40 bucks each, for a grand total of over 100 dollars. She recommended we get the Pathfinder beginner box. So we could test everything out and see if we liked the table top games in general before we went and invested that kind of money into DnD or whatever. I thought this was amazing customer service and was very impressed. She could have just been like yeah sure, ok here's the DnD books you want, good luck learning everything but no... she found something to tailor to our needs which also costed a little less money for us to get our feet wet. Now I fully intend to do my shopping here for all my nerdy needs. Aside from the above paragraph, it's a generally cozy little store. They have a lot of comics, graphic novels, CCG's and Tabletop games. Accessories if you play CCG's like deck holders and card protectors. They even have room which could be better used for more shelf space for more inventory but instead they have tables for people to come and play games. All in all, I really like this store and you should definitely check it out if you're looking for somewhere to buy these particular type of items. Oh, and they also have Magic nights, and Table-top days. Seems like they really have a support base of customers that really bring everything in for a 'homey' feel.
