I walked in with my son to have his haircut and unfortunately I got the older lady named Trina who gave the worst haircut and service ever. She seemed in a sour mood to begin with as I asked her to cut the sides short and just enough off the top so it still lays down. When I asked her to take a little more off she took the clipper machine and just ran I over the whole top of his head! I said "what are you doing? And she said "well you wanted it shorter" really? Now my son's head looks like a tennis ball! I know people can have a bad day but this is no excuse. Go anywhere else BUT HERE. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Awful experience and almost started crying in the chair. I asked for some long layers and a trim with some face framing. Shampoo and conditioning wash was included and also a waterfall down my back was also included. The lady Amy, who washed and cut my hair (I do not recommend her) confirmed with me verbally about 2-3 inches to take off the dead ends. She must not know how to measure because she took off 6-7 inches off my hair! As she was cutting off the hair I was holding back tears because I could see so many inches of growth falling to the floor. I came into the salon with my hair very long laying right under my breast and left with it and inch under my collar bones. Also her "face framing" was choppy and uneven and not at all gradual. I went home and had to try and fix the choppy job she did with my own scissors. I was so sad and disappointed and I should have went anywhere else but here. read more

I made an appointment with Trina on a Saturday. I drove 20 minutes and was told she didn't show up for work that day (thanks for calling and letting me know). I rescheduled for the following day. I showed up the following day and the stylist said she was doing a weave and couldn't take me for over an hour. I ended up with another stylist and wasn't happy with the haircut. 4 weeks later, I made another appointment with Trina. Drove 20 minutes and rushed to be there on time only to find Trina had taken another customer at my scheduled appointment time. I will never go back again and would tell anyone making an appointment that it's useless. Don't waste your time. read more

I entered the salon and asked how long the wait for a trim, was told 20 min, that I was next up. I sat waiting almost 20 min when a man walked in and sat down. the stylist/(I assume manager) came and told me I was no longer next, because the man who had just come in was for some reason now ahead of me. She apologized and said I could wait for the next available stylist...1 hour. As if my time were not worth anything! I do not approve of the business protocol on display here and will not be going back although I am a local and had frequented the establishment 5 or more times. read more

Just walked by and found this place today. I was a little wary based on some of the other reviews BUT took a chance anyway and let me tell you they deserve their name. Everyone thing was fANTASTIC . Edith was great , very professional and did a great job. They first shampoo your hair and then scissor cut just the way you want it. Very quick service, clean and pleasant ambiance. YIKES! I took my three year old to get her hair cut. She was seen by a woman named Audrey. This woman should not be allowed to hold scissors end of story. I asked her to cut bangs for my daughter and one side stops just above her eyebrow and the other ends in the middle of her forehead!!! I showed her a picture of exactly what I wanted and it wasn't even close. I asked to make them frame her eyes and go long on the edges and she got straight across and WAY TO WIDE!!!! She didn't even wet her hair. UGH and let me tell you one of the hardest things as a parent so far; telling a hairstylist how badly she screwed up without making your three year old feel disappointed and self-conscious!! Thank goodness it isn't permanent and that I didn't have to pay for her ruined hair!! :( DO NOT LET AUDREY AT FANTASTIC SAMS CUT YOUR HAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just got my hair cut at this facility. I am a 63 year old man who just moved to Carpinteria from Santa Clarita. I got a scissor cut and it was over in about 5 minutes. The hair cutter didn't do my sideburns or neck. I had an incredulous look on my face and told the lady that I'd never had a haircut that was this quick and she said, "well we're Fantastic Sams". I said "you didn't do my sideburns or neck". She said, "I can't do your sideburns with scissors just a razor" so I agreed, and she proceeded to take 20 seconds to do my sideburns and another 10 seconds to do my neck. At $25, this was by far the most expensive haircut I've ever had considering the effort that was put out by the hair cutter. How can a business expect a customer to return with this kind of service? I will never come back! Shame on them for not realizing how bad of service they provided and shame on me for not telling them at the time. read more

She would offer and always suggests a product that would make my hair soft and healthy. She does my hair color , cut and style . She is very professional and knowledgeable about her job. There are lots of chairs and usually several woman who assist you. They have very traditional haircutting styles, but for the low price, it is a great place to go. I think moreso for males since they tend to have traditional styles over women. They also sell several high end beauty product lines and you usually have little to no wait. read more

Don't go here to get your eyebrows waxed! Ever! The lady that did mine hardly used any wax. I also had to ask her to thin them out more. and she still didn't wax between my eyebrows to get all the light hairs. Trust me I'm not hairy and I get the regularly waxed.If I wanted my eyebrows plucked out and not waxed I would have done em myself! Waste of time money and she was basically useless. read more

I've gone to plenty of high-end salons and paid a lot more, but when I need a cut in a hurry I can always count on Ana to do a good job for a super-reasonable price. In fact I loved my last cut (and deep conditioning for ~$10 more) from her last week and got many compliments on it. I've paid a lot more elsewhere for haircuts that I liked a lot less. January 3rd I went to cut my hair to donate to a leukemia foundation. After explaining full details on prep and cut twice, once with manager and once with hair stylist, the stylist chopped my hair without any prep. Manager was very rude. Following day went to get it fixed. Stylist Jenny was very unprofessional and down right rude. BAD service. Unfortunately I didn't spot just how bad it was until I got home; that's presumably why they have the chairs so incredibly far from the mirrors - it's impossible to see just what a shoddy job they've done. After an appointment with Audrey, I am very pleased to write a review after having my hair blown out at Fantastic Sam's in Carpinteria. I met with Audrey, who said she was a newer staff person, but mentioned several years' experience as a hairdresser (what a plus! - I was weary about getting a hairdresser with limited experience for what I needed done). I have long, mid-back length wavy/curly hair and Audrey had no problem giving it a "curls-that-rock", polished look. Other hairdressers I've gone to sometimes are a bit clumsy having to work with (blowing out) so much hair, but not Audrey - I was very impressed. I was getting ready for a date that night, and my date even commented how nice my hair looked!! Again, I am very pleased with the outcome of the appointment and I look forward to going back for the same kind of services. Compared to other salons, the service from Audrey was excellant, and the price was definitely right. I just hope Audrey can stay long enough before getting snapped up by another salon; if so, I'll have to keep track!! If you walk in, try to get with Audrey!
