This pizza is GREAT for the price if you get it fresh. The crust is good, sauce is mid, but toppings and cheese make the pie. And the ranch is great! This is perfect for a slice to go. Why the low review? The worker was making a pie, served me (handling payment and the till), and went back to making pizza. That's all I can think about. No gloves and no washing of hands! This place changed ownership about a year ago and unfortunately with that, I've noticed quality has gone downhill. I was a regular for many years and always enjoyed the original owners' recipes, quantity of toppings, pizza sauce and light fluffy dough. Unfortunately most of that is gone. The new dough is thin, dry and brittle (and appears to be mass produced), there's less toppings and cheese (it doesn't even taste like the same cheese, pretty sure they used to use swiss cheese), the pizza sauce is bland and there's hardly any of it, and overall it just does not taste the same compared to before the new ownership change. Of particular note is the ham and pineapple -- previously, those slices were loaded with crumbled ham, tons of gooey cheese and herbs; now it's a couple round ham slices with a few dabs of pineapple and not much cheese. Very dissapointing and unfortunately will no longer be frequenting this former Vancouver institution due to what appears to be cost cutting and changing recipes. Changing what worked for over 25 years is a surefire way to lose loyal customers -- including those like me. Sadly all good things must come to an end, so for me it's goodbye Pizza 2001. read more

Being an American, I wasn't sure exactly what to expect from Canadian pizza, but I found this place to be a winner (I even went back a few days later). It's not much to look at, and was pretty cold on a winter's night, but the people behind the counter were friendly and efficient and the slices were good. The pepperoni had a sort of smoked flavor that I'm not used to in pizza and the cheese slices were nicely loaded with a lot of cheese. I stopped in yesterday to grab two slices of their pizza because I wanted to try 'em out! I'm happy I did. One of the pizza slices was a tad bit burned, but aside from that, the pizza is good! The pepperoni is the middle of mall kinda pizza you got back in the '80s. The sauce is nice, and the slices are huge! For $7.50, you really can't go wrong for two slices of pizza. This is a fantastic place for cheap eats. Lots of other pizza places in the area, but this is definitely the best. I think it's the dough that really stands out. It makes the crust crispy and chewy, and the pizza itself has the right amount of toppings to cheese. For only $3 a slice, this is a great deal, despite seeing cheaper pizza deals nearby. Don't sacrifice great tasting pizza just to save less than a dollar eating elsewhere. The people behind the counter are super friendly too. The pizza here tastes the best when it's fresh. But when it's been sitting in the warmer it's still Okay...but you'll always crave a fresh slice. They have their specialty pizza's here and for many of the basic slices it's $2.50. I believe some of the fancier pizza's are more per slice but I seem to always get something about $2.50 a slice almost every time I come here. The owners are friendly and have been running this shop for years. And to be honest that's why I do keep coming back here. I don't know the guy's name but he's always been nice and friendly to me and once when they were closing even gave me a free slice when I bought a piece. I will never forget that. The other thing I like about this shop is that it's close to the bus stop on Pender. So if you've got a few minutes and you're hungry you can grab yourself one of the better slices of pizza in this city. read more

Behold! The lunch-time spectacular! You see that lady in the window madly tearing away the stringy melted cheese and wolfing down the hot and steamy pizza? Yup that's me. You can witness this performance weekly, in person too, if you like. Eating a gigantic pizza slice is an art and a challenge to all lady-like manners, especially when the pizza is so *darn* good that I have to resist the urge to re-enacting the orgasm scene from "When Harry Met Sally." Let's run through some analysis: Quality: You get an abundance of freshly-chopped veggies and quality meat toppings that are searing hot - often off-of-the-oven. You can ask for your crust to be customized to thin/thick, regular or garlic! And you must eat it while it is hot so you can savor all that cheesiness from the gooey cheese and the oiliness from the pepperoni slices. If you are worried about the calories, ladies, the walk back to your office after lunch will help burn off your guilt. My only quibble is that I find the crust a bit too doughy sometimes and a bit dry towards the outer edge. Selection: There are the staple ones of course: Pepperoni, Hawaiian, Meat Lover etc. But there are also the Specialty pizzas that I applaud for their creativity and flavor, and here are my favorites: the Black Forest Ham, Cappicollo, and Barbeque chicken that is loaded with BBQ chicken, roasted baby potatoes, layers of mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Quantity: Even my meat-terminator friends can only handle two slices, as they are dinner-plate sized and thick with dough. Price: Very decent at $3.50 for two regular topping slices. Specialty pizza for $2.25. Service: The friendly and helpful staff will warm up your pizza without you asking when you order one that has been out of the oven for a while. Ambiance: This is a very cozy and can get very busy during lunch hours. Expect yourself to be rubbing shoulders with armies of languages students, shoppers, and businessmen. If you come here by yourself you'll be entertained with classical music from CBC Radio 1 and a stack-full of daily newspapers. I usually "plan" enough break time in-between my meetings to come down for a piece of food tranquility. It's generally a couple of bucks and change for a slice with a few toppings, rather than the $1.50 that's on the signs. However, unlike other buck-a-slice type pizza places, they use lots of good quality ingredients, i.e. actual slices of pepperoni rather than those little chunks you sometimes see. There are a couple of tables and a counter for eating in. When it gets busy, you'll recognize this place by the lineup out the door at noon, and the happy people standing on the sidewalk eating their economical and tasty pizza lunch. read more

Price cutting each other to under 1$ a slice. With the University right next door, it screams "Location, Location, Location"! These prices were awhile back, but still uber reasonable 1 slice for 2$ So, scrapped my usual search for fine dining and decided to man up and eat a large slice for the whopping $2.26 all in. It 'twas ground beef, onion and hot peppers. Thin crust, short on sauce. If eaten late after a night on the town, I'm sure it would have been amazing. In the late afternoon, it is a solid 3 star pizza. Why a 4 star review you ask? Service was awesome. Offered to heat up my slice without even asking..... And it was freaking $2.26 It's a dive. Actually they had only about 7 different pizzas available when I came in at 1. This place was packed, not a single chair was empty. I grabbed the last pepperoni, and then gave in and got a bbq chicken slice as well. The pepperoni was good. There's not a lot to say about it- but the pepperoni had a good flavor with some spice to it. The bbq chicken had potatoes on it (the reason I was so easily tempted by it), it was really tasty, except I thought there was a bit too much bbq sauce on it. Kind of overwhelming for my tastebuds. Is this place better than all the other pizza places next door and across the street? They have pops of your choice: Coca Cola, Pepsi, 7up, Canada Dry, Canada Dry. They have a combo any 2 house pizza slices and one POp for 6,50$. Not the cheapest but good option. 2001 flavours seems to be one of the more overlooked pizza spots in Vancouver. Located right next door to two other pizza spots this one is hands down the cream of the 3-way crop. The prices vary for single slices ($2 - $3) depending on how many toppings are on the pizza, which makes sense but isn't typical at all. The slices here are huge and EXTREMELY GREASY! which isn't typically a bad thing if that's your type of pie, but for many it can be a deterrent. The one thing I've noticed about this place is that the cheese melts better than any other sliced pizza place in the entire city, it's just so damn gooey! Most people have no idea what this place is called, but its been in that location for as long as I've lived in Vancouver. It used to be one of the seemingly worst pizza places back 10 years ago but somewhere along the way their quality has gone up, while the quality across downtown has plummeted with the rise of Megabite and Fresh Slice. Where those slices are horrible, lack any taste other than that of burnt meat and grease, 2001 Flavours is the best and most reliable cheap slice in town. The place is big enough so you can actually sit down on rainy days, the staff are ridiculously friendly some days, variety is there, rarely dealing with dried out slices, and who can argue with the prices. Honestly have no idea why anyone even bothers going to the places near by considering the "quality" comparatively. Keep in mind that it's probably a mean thing to do to yourself too often given that this is still a street-style slice loaded with grease.. so don't do it too often. If you've got a big more budget and less interested in the getting full aspect, highly recommend Goldie's down the street.... more $ but its the best walk-up slice in town. 2001 Flavours also has a daily special, so keep an eye out for them read more

Coming out of a show at the Orpheum, craving some gooey and delicioua pizza by the slice, and this place certainly didn't disappoint. All fresh, hot pizza in the serving window. Mushroom, veggie, spicy veggie, chorizo and sausage, double cheese, pepperoni, ham and pineapple, garlic and tomato. We had three pieces, and two bottles of water for about $10. Totally reasonable, super tasty. Wouldn't hesitate to eat here again either. The man behind the counter (seemingly the owner) was super friendly and super helpful. Seemed like an all-around good guy. I went in looking for a quick, low cost lunch thinking I'd get the same, typical pizza-by-the-slice that you can find anywhere. Instead, I was surprised at how tasty the pizza actually was, and in a nice, clean eat-in, take-out shop. Downtown is littered with cheap pizza joints, but they all taste the same (dry, old, sitting under heat lamps for too long, a "frozen" kind of taste to it). But Pizza 2001 tasted fresh, and oozed with cheese and sauce. Yum. A pepperoni slice tasted like how you'd imagine a pepperoni pizza should taste like. This place is my favorite pizza place on Earth! It may not have a fancy or spotless interior, but the quality of their pizza and their unmatched customer service for a pizza joint totally makes up for this small shortcoming. As their name suggests, they have many, many types of pizzas, all topped with FRESH ingredients. Some of you might be wondering, "wait, aren't you vegan? You can't have pizza cos it has cheese!" WRONG! This pizza joint makes me a slice of vegan pizza (all veggies and NO Cheese) upon request, AND the owner only charge me $1.50 for it too! That's amazing because their standard slices are $1.50 and their daily specials are $2.25. The owner and his staff are very good about just making ONE cheeseless slice for me, -their slices are big, so one slice usually suffice, so I'm more than happy to wait about 15 minutes for it to come out of the oven. My twin tells me that the owner, Glen, asks about me from time to time when she gets a slice of pizza. I find that it's very awesome that he remembers me, which is why I always make a point of visiting his shop every time I'm in Vancouver! The pizza is pretty good and since they get a lot of traffiic, it's usually pretty fresh. At 3.50 for 2 slices you can't complain anyways. It's in a very busy area but I have always gotten a seat. Woohoo!!!! My wife, who is one of the pickiest eaters I've ever known, sent me out for pizza our first night in Vancouver. On top of being picky, she's also from Queens, NY, so she knows good pizza from decent pizza and has educated me in the same. 2001 Flavors was pretty dang good pizza! The prices were reasonable, the cheese and sauce were very tasty, and the crust was properly thin with just a little bit of crunch and a little bit of chewy at the same time. Was it a New York slice? Well, no, sadly nothing outside of New York has ever quite measured up. I think it's the water, but I will say that the pie we got from 2001 Flavors was arguably one of the top 5 we've had outside of the big apple. All in all the wife was pleased, and when she's happy, I'm happy (and the inverse is also true), so I'm definitely a fan! Friendly staff, quick service, and easy walking distance to our hotel made us want a second visit. Sadly, we planned our trip poorly, right in the middle of the Thanksgiving holiday, and they were closed, but I will definitely be stopping by again the next time I make it up to beautiful BC! read more

Alright, so I have been all about the cheap (and sometimes questionable) downtown pizza for years - I still remember a few places near the Granville strip selling a slice for $1 (with tax included) years ago, some of them even complete with sketchy old (but awesome) arcades at the back of the store. As more pizza places pop up, I can't help but try all of them, especially since I'm always on the hunt for better pizza! A basic pepperoni pizza is seriously my favourite eat, no matter how old, cold, or stale it is, I'll eat it all day, every day, and if it was the last kind of food on earth, I'd never get sick of it. I'm a pizza-eating freak. Maybe a monster. Anyways, this place is hands down my favourite pizza pit in the city for 3 reasons: 1. It's delicious and fresh - they ALWAYS have several varieties of pizza on display and I always see them making more pizza in the back. The pizza actually looks fresh in the case as well, and if it's been sitting there for a bit, they'll pop it in the oven for you to heat it up (I noticed that most pizza places don't do this). I always get my good ol' pepperoni (it's easy to compare pizza places when you stick to one type of pizza), and their pepperoni really tops my list of pep pizzas. The pepperoni itself covers the entire pizza (they're not stingy with it!), it's tangy and crispy (this is the most important factor in terms of pepperoni for me), doesn't taste cheap or undercooked, the sauce and cheese is just right, and the crust is nice, thin, and crispy. 2. The staff are fantastic - every time I'm in there, the staff, particularly the manager, is extremely warm and friendly! The manager actually recognized me too (that's how often I've been going there), and as I leave, one of them always say good-bye from the back. They never hesitate on warming my slices up and they never look miserable or bored like most of the employees at many pizza places in town. 3. They're cheap/reasonably priced - Many people have mentioned that they're a bit pricier than most pizza places downtown - maybe it's the fact that I live off pepperoni and don't really go for specialty flavours, but I find that my 2 slices and a can of pop always come out a whole dollar or two cheaper than most of the places I used to frequent. Even if they were a bit pricier, I'd still take my business there since the pizza is delicious. In terms of the interior, I really don't bother judging or letting that affect my rating since it's a cheap pizza joint on the corner of a downtown street, not a fancy 5-star restaurant (though I'd probably choose this over a fancy 5-star restaurant anyways). All I expect from it is that it is clean (which I find it to be cleaner than many pizza places anyways)! Anyways. I think I found my pizza joint of choice in the city. 5 stars from me.
