Such a cute cakery/bakery that took over the former Copenhagen location. It has a really nice painted mural outside that is hard to miss and the cakes that they have for sale and display are all beautiful. I came in the day of my daughter's birthday for 2 cakelettes or mini cakes. I really need to stop buying cakes the day of and plan ahead! But it all worked out thankfully. I called right before I went and the cake shop worker told me how many of each cakelette they had. We had 3 adults and 2 kids for our family celebration and the 2 cakelettes were enough for us. I don't like spending a ton on a big cake with leftovers to deal with in general so the mini cakes they have are the perfect size! Ever since I saw photos of Fantasy Frosting's banana pudding, I've had this place bookmarked - I wasn't aware that it was actually much closer to me than I had expected. Ended up making the drive over when I saw their IG post about almond poppy chiffon cake. Bakery is located on Colorado Blvd, between Quigley and Rosemead Blvd. There was plenty of street parking, and as of now, they're allowing customers back into the store to choose goodies (or you can order on-line or through the phone for curbside pick-up). On a Saturday late morning, there seemed to be a decent selection available in their display cases. I was pretty delighted to see that they offered samples of their cookies - cut up into small pieces and packaged up - for customers to try before buying. Everything is neatly labeled and priced - they offer cakelettes, chiffon cakes, dessert cups, pies, cookies, cookie sandwiches, and cake bars. Prices seem to be on the slightly higher end, but the storefront IS located in Pasadena, and everything looked so amazing. Got a slice of that almond poppy chiffon cake - price was under $5 if I remember correctly. This was so delicious! I could honestly eat an entire cake and not be tired of this. Very reminiscent to the taste of the poppy seed muffins back when Costco carried them except that Fantasy Frosting's is more elevated with the frosting on top. Each bite was moist and not too sweet, and eating it with a smidgen of that frosting on top was so good. Would come back and order this again. As for the banana pudding cup, I found this to be a little on the pricier side. It was $6.95 for a pretty small cup. I think the large size at Magnolia is around this price, and you get a lot more for your buck. But tastewise - this banana pudding was on point. Could taste the sweetness of the pudding with the fresh cream, and there was a good amount of bananas and cookie pieces inside. And I tried the confetti cookie sammich for $4.75. Tastewise, I thought it was a little sweet, but I feel like there was an undertone of almond to the cookie, which I personally loved. My sister wasn't a big fan of the flavor though. I did feel like the texture was a bit hard - almost like it was made a day or two prior to when I bought it. There was a post about getting a free cup of coffee with all purchases that day, but unfortunately it seemed like they were no longer serving coffee or the woman helping us forgot about the promotion. Other than that though, the lady helping us was really nice. She explained some of the cookie flavors and allowed me time to decide before ringing me up. It came down to the Triple Berry & Strawberry Champagne, ultimately we ended up choosing the Strawberry Champagne cake flavor, the flavor was not too intense and not too sweet. I am so confused by these reviews regarding the owner. I received nothing but the best from Leslie. She was not available on our wedding date and I was really sad about it but she suggested I have the cake delivered the day before. It was so great of her to fit me in and work with me to make sure I got the best damn cake for my wedding. I discovered Fantasy Frostings at another wedding and decided on that night that I wanted them to do my wedding cake. Three years later, I was ready to start my planning for the reception. I proceeded to place my order after a fun tasting with the owner, Leslie. The cake would be two tiers. One triple berry and the second tier cream brûlée. On my wedding day, the cake was delivered on time and looked great. I cut into the bottom tier (triple berry) and was mildly horrified. The slice of what was suppose to be a moist soft cake was dry and came out in a burst of crumbs. The first taste for my husband and I was something else. Barely any vanilla flavor and falling apart. I kept telling myself, "it's not that bad". The cake was suppose to be one of the highlights of the reception and it turned out to be a hot mess of broken dry cake slices in a fondant shell. The restaurant served the cake to my guests and everyone took a bite or two and left it. I gave what was left of the cake to the restaurant. I stayed after my reception to settle the bill and find my cake knife (I ordered a special stainless steel knife from Texas especially for this cake) . I went into the kitchen to retrieve the knife and saw what was left of the cake and all the barely eaten slices in the trash. I was so disturbed by how horrible the cake was that I cut into the top tier that was being saved to see what it looked like. The cake was moist, flavorful, and gorgeous. I served it to my family and they were shocked by the night and day difference between the top and bottom cakes. I contacted the owner Leslie after my reception. Leslie informed me via email that she didn't believe that her bakery provided a dry botched cake. Leslie informed me that other cakes were made from the same filling and cake mixture as my wedding cake and they were, "flavorful and moist". This has nothing to do with my cake nor does it address the problem at hand. I didn't receive one of those "flavorful and moist" cakes I got a low flavor/dry cake. Leslie informed me that in order for her to acknowledge any problems, I would have had to bring her a sample of the cake. Since I didn't go trash diving in my wedding dress, I offered to provide pictures from my photographer but Leslie insisted that she can't determine anything from pictures. Leslie just wrote off my issue by stating via email,"glad to hear that the cake was visual success. Sorry you didn't enjoy the flavor of the cake". Leslie got paid to provide a cake that was similar to the cake tasting sample and I got a product that appeared to be made by someone "learning" how to bake or just plain incompetent. I gave them 2 stars because the top cream brûlée cake came out in the condition as promised and the decor was gorgeous. Fantasy used to make the most delicious baked treats (including gluten free), but it appears that they have switched over to only making super expensive cakes. Okay, that is super disappointing, but it is their right to change. What isn't okay is speaking aggressively to a customer on the phone. After emailing over a week prior about ordering a specialty cake and not hearing back I called to inquire. The woman who answered stated that they don't check their email everyday, but then, who does? Umm - almost every successful business owner? The woman then proceeded to tell me, with obvious attitude, that there was no way she could take my order because it was less than two weeks prior to the event. Well, if the email had been answered, that would not have been a problem. There are too many other bakery options out there to deal with nasty customer service. (P.S. We were able to find three bakeries who could make our cake in the timeline requested. And, the event planner who the surprise party was for, has deleted Fantasy from her vendor list.) read more
