There's a small vendor selling corn from what one can assume is a "borrowed" shopping wagon. It may be the last place you'd think of when you think great food. It is street food in its truest form, and that's what Mexican corn is - street food. The wagon is run by a little Mexican couple, who are really nice. If you go, know that you will need to use sign language to relay what you want. Hold up the appropriate number of fingers for the quantity and just point at what you want. There is a choice of covering your corn in mayo, queso blanco and chilli powder. I recommend all three. What makes this particular vendor a cut above all the rest is their use of the grill. Other vendors will pull their corn out of hot water, knowing that it's been sitting in there for possibly hours. This results in an almost mushy corn taste. With this particular vendor, they grill the corn leaving it with a much different taste. It has an almost popcorn taste mixed with a cooked corn taste, which in and of itself is fantastic. Bundle it with the mayo/white cheese/chilli mix, and you have sheer perfection. I've brought a few people here to rave reviews. Just note that sometimes this couple will wander up and down a couple of blocks when there are no customers, but they'll always be on the west side of 5th Ave. Make sure you look specifically for the cart with the grill, as all others are just inferior.

The order was small, and it was something I could have paid for by cash, but he was ok with the check, and assured me the order would be delivered the next day. I pay for everything by check or credit card when I make purchases for my restaurant. The next day there was no delivery whatsoever. I called and called JAS and got through to nobody. I ended up purchasing from Restaurant Depot instead. Today, I called Sam again and he said they wouldn't fulfill the order since it wasn't in cash. I told him it was very unprofessional to not inform me, to which he said he called me Thursday, which makes no difference since it's after the fact. I, in fact, received no phone call from him Thursday. He said that he didn't want to deliver to somebody who had "no money", which was very insulting. I explained to him that we were introducing a new product and can handle a bigger quantity when it is established. I have 64 seats in my restaurant and can easily handle the quantity that he feels comfortable in supplying, but don't want to rush into a new product. He was extremely rude on the phone at that point, and abruptly hung up after saying "WHEN YOU WANT TO PLACE A BIG ORDER CALL ME GOODBYE". These business practices are rude and completely unprofessional. Do not deal with JAS, they are simply not reliable.
