Bad Service. I order the whole roasted pig, and they say they have, then take my money for deposit. Day come to pickup, they said don't have it. We order another food and they tell me the time ro pickup, and when I come, still not done, wait for more 30m, but still not done. They dont even sau sorry for that. Had a great experience here! Everything was in date, and the store smelled like roasting pork :) The cashier was polite, but not overly American fake nice. Got a few different types of ramen on this trip, as well as a taro bun and some fresh rice cakes. The taro bun ($1.99) was a little more dense than I prefer, but it was still yummy. Prices are fair for this area, and there's even a fairly large section dedicated to Goya products. I'll definitely have to come back when I get paid. Most of the negative comments seem to be coming from a place of xenophobia. If you go in with a more open mind, and realize that this shop is a more traditional Asian market and not a Kroger or Meijer, you'll definitely have a better time. read more

I have shopped at this store for several years. It is usually okay. I went a few days ago, and I was shocked. They were stocking shelves. However, the stockers were playing extremely "loud" Hispanic music while doing so. They didn't care to turn it down when I was walking by. I was standing next to one, and he didn't turn down the music until I gave him a "look". I am guessing the store might be under new management? Not the usual Asian clerks as before. Stopped in to get some vegetables to make nabe. They had a good selection of vegetables. I got Napa cabbage, carrots, several types of mushrooms. There are all sorts of frozen stuff, I found some takoyaki. I got some pickled radish, salted seaweed stems, miso paste, and some snacks. Looks like they had cooked duck; I need to get the duck some time. It's the best selection of Japanese/Asian food I have found in the Dayton area. I'm so happy that my mother-in-law found this place. I mentioned to her that we use sweet potato noodles a lot, but I hadn't yet found a place that sold them up here in Dayton. Only a couple days later she found Far East Foods. Yay! I was so happy not only to find sweet potato noodles at a decent price, but also cassava flour!! This place seems to have a lot of Chinese food with lots of varieties of dried noodles, which I am less familiar with. I was looking for Japanese products, of which I found 3-4 items (Memmi, Ponzu, pickled radish, and Sapporo ramen). The shelves were about 2/3 stocked and prices matched at checkout what was hand-written on shelves. Everything seemed double the prices of what I'd have paid in Northern California (my only point of comparison). Baby bok-choy was plentiful and fresh, but a lot of the other produce looked like it had been there a week or longer. There was a section of fresh and frozen seafood that I didn't examine, but saw others purchasing. The cashier was masked and friendly. Overall, this has a dusty warehouse feel rather than pristine supermarket. For Japanese products, I'll stick with the Korean markets in Fairmont. read more

I would say that these people don't care but I'm not sure since they've never really talked to me so that I could form an opinion. I've been here 2 or 3 times and I don't even remember what I bought, but obviously, I couldn't find it anywhere else or I wouldn't have been shopping here. It's such a find-it-yourself place. They have a good produce section with some beat up produce, though it's not all like that. They have ice cream bars that you probably won't find elsewhere and a few drinks. They have a lot of housewares, though I don't remember much in the way of small electrical appliances. They've got crackers, crisps, biscuits/cookies and other goodies. A lot of what was there was thankfully from Taiwan and not China. As far as I'm concerned Hong Kong is the only safe place for food in China. Of course, they had loads of canned goods and it's not all Chinese or Taiwanese. There were some Thai products. They have some murky aquariums with live fish. The prices are a lot like the store: random. The goodies were generally at similar prices to other stores and yet, the Korean ramyun/ramen I buy was much higher. The dishes were inexpensive, though. There was a person working at the dishes who had almost run into me earlier, and she still never said anything when she saw me the second time. I've been coming here for 10+ years for groceries (mostly produce). The produce is usually the cheapest in the area, reliably in frequent stock, and in good condition. I do advise you to check expiration dates for all packaged items, as I've come across out of date items many times. I mainly stick to produce only here. Anyone looking for balut, they usually always have it and I've purchased it several times. The cashier has never been rude to me. This is a huge supermarket. It looks small but there's actually two parts to it. There's a ton of everything here. Chinese, Filipino, Thai, Vietnamese, you name it. There's even a section with a ton of Goya brands. There is three or four baked goods in the refrigerated section, and there's even whole duck ready to eat in the back. If you really need household goods like a rice cooker, or pots, pans, or cooking utensils, they have all of that too. This place sells fresh and frozen fish, so it kind of smells like fish all over the store. If you can get over that then you'll be fine. If there was an option for no stars, I would have chosen that option. I purchased jerk bbq sauce and hot pepper sauce. Came home, put the items up, and threw away the receipt. Three weeks later went to use the sauces and one expired in March 2022 and the other expired in August 2022. Called the store to get a refund or store credit. Store owner refused because I couldn't prove I bought the items from the store and how much I paid. Offered to show debit card charge and it was less than $8 purchase. Store owner still refused. Reported the store to the Dayton Health Department as I bet the store never took the items down off the shelves and could be still selling the expired sauces. I don't frequent this store often, but will occasionally stop by when I'm craving hot pot or need some specific ingredients. The store is under new ownership and never have I encountered such rude customer service. As I was waiting in line, I noticed that the cashier lady kept mumbling something quietly. I thought at first that she was having a conversation with the customer in front of her but when I looked more closely, I realized she was talking into an earbud in Spanish while ringing up the items, TOTALLY ignoring the person in front of her. When it got to be my turn, she looked up but was in the middle of saying something to the person on the phone. I was there for a specific item that I couldn't find. When I asked about the item, she acted like she had no idea what I was talking about, called over a coworker who also had no idea what I was talking about AND WHO WAS ALSO ON HIS PHONE apparently in the middle of a video call. They have fresh pork bones - yes, PORK BONES - is anyone else thinking Japanese ramen broth following the recipe from MOMOFUKU? Pork bones are exceptionally hard to find - even in Asian supermarkets in Los Angeles, so you can imagine trying to find that in the midwest in American markets. Just a note though, it's not always available so you may want to call ahead. They have a small imported Chinese bakery section with red bean buns, and those famously tasty Malaysian fruit gummies (similar to Cocoaland Lot 100). They have over 30 different drinks - soy milk, lychee, coconut juice, grass, sugarcane flavored. Tons of frozen fish and frozen cuttlefish, weird cuts of meat (like soup shank bones, pig ears, pig trotters, tripe, chicken feet, liver, etc.) and a variety of other Chinese related food you can use for Dim Sum. In terms of starches, they carry tapioca starch, wheat starch, potato starch (katakuriko), sweet rice flour (mochiko), red beans, grains.....teacup sets... Finding a store with this huge variety of Chinese goods and even fresh produce (and fruits, such as Asian pear)...is really HARD TO FIND in DAYTON, OH. They also sell carbonsteel woks, wok rings, and wok spatulas + bamboo steamers for all your wok needs. Chilly paste with holy basil expired in 2018 yet they have it on shelves. Most of the food stuff is expired or rotting. The customer service lady was rude and has no personality. I tried asking some questions about some foods but she wasn't helpful. I asked here where would I find galangal and she just rolled her eyes and told me to follow her then she pointed towards the root but it had severe fungus on it. I just moved to Dayton a few months ago for work, and my pantry has been sadly understocked. I finally had a bit of time to do some exploring, and found this little market not too far from home. To be clear, this is DEFINITELY a Chinese market, with a couple random Goya aisles thrown in. Which is to say, no Korean or Thai or Japanese spices, sauces etc. That said, as far as Chinese markets go, this one a-okay! It's no 99 Ranch or T&T, but it's got your standard fare: instant noodles (woot!!), frozen buns and dumplings, meats, fresh seafood, fresh Chinese veggies, Chinese sauces, tofu, pickled veggies, Asian drinks, fresh soy milk, etc. Prices are variable. Produce can be pretty cheap, but most of the processed stuff is marked up compared to other Asian markets; $6 for sesame seed oil?? But I guess that makes sense, given the area and the population. Please note: there is a $0.50 charge for using credit card on purchases less than $20. This is better than not accepting credit card at all on purchases less than $20, if you ask me. I just moved to Dayton for my new job and needed to hit up an Asian market to get all my sauces and stuff and from the reviews this seemed like the place to go and for me, it was a little hit and miss. The store is smaller than I expected and while they did have just about everything I was looking for, the range of brands was a little lacking, however they did have all the basics like soy sauce, rice vinegar, black sesame oil, etc. The seafood section is a mostly frozen and a bit pricier than I would've expected, even more than in Kansas City or Omaha which are more landlocked. They did have a few interesting things including fresh razor clams which looked alright which I might try next time and grill them up la plancha style and pretend I'm back in Barcelona. The frozen section is alright and had a weird mix of things but no bbq pork buns, which seems like a staple to me. They did have a few roasted ducks and pork which looked pretty good. I think I'll pick one up next time since they were only around $17 and a frozen one was about the same price. The produce section again was hit and miss. They had napa cabbage. baby bok choy, tang-o for hotpot but some things could have been fresher. I'll probably try the other two Asian markets in town this weekend and see which one is better. read more

The wife and I have been going here for about 15 years now. Wide selection of Asian food stuffs to include Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Filipino. As regular customers we have always been greeted warmly, and told exactly where items are that we can't find. Not sure why everybody seems to think that the service is bad here. I went in for the first time today, and I have to say that it is the best Asian market I have been to in a very long time. I was looking for several things, with one being yeast balls. As soon as I asked the woman behind the counter if they had them, she got up and took me straight to them, and even gave me pointers for making rice wine. On top of that, I had gone to three other Asian markets in town looking for gunpowder tea, and only Far East had a selection of loose teas that weren't just genmaicha and ginseng (which they also had). More Filipino options than I have seen compared to other Asian stores I've been to in Columbus and Dayton. They even had live frogs in a tank which I've never seen before. Had all the essentials I needed, except I have yet to find a place to buy filipino longanisa when I have cravings. Produce could also be fresher. I appreciate the wide selection of items at this store, but I will never shop here again. I spent more than $150 dollars on many items and when I got home I discovered that I was charged more than $35 for fish I did not buy. When I complained to the owner, he/she called me a liar. His wife is the cashier who weighed my soy sauce and sesame oil and then charged me as if it was fresh fish. Not my favorite Asian grocery in the area (that honor would go to Dong Yang), but no one can contest that Far East has a far larger selection of Asian grocery items than anywhere around. They even have some fresh produce and live fish swimming around in tanks. My biggest gripe with this place, though, is that you get the feeling that upkeep and maintenance aren't exactly on the top of their priority list. I recently moved to Dayton from New York City with my Fiancee 7 months ago and I was torn that I had to leave my favorite markets as well as Chinatown behind. I thought I possibly couldn't carry on and it was so depressing moving to Dayton, where it felt like there was literally nothing! Most nights I'd dream of unagi don! This place saved my life! They had everything down to okonomiyaki sauce to BBQ eel. It wasn't the cleanest shop I've been to but it reminded me of grocery stores in Chinatown NYC that I missed so much. They have such a large variety! I honestly feel it's better than any NYC one I've been too. They actually get most of their packaged pastries from the grocery store in NYC Chinatown on Bond street that I would shop at! I recently bought my favorite coconut pastry, bit into it and began to cry from nostalgia. I stopped by this store a couple of days ago and bought a bag of the 50pc of jello, a box of steam flour cakes, and some agar agar. I didn't eat the jello until yesterday, and it was the WORST experience of my jello life. It tasted like the smell of wet socks!!! I immediately threw it back out because I know that jello does not taste like that. Part of it was on me for not checking for expiration tags, but this bag did not have anything that list when the item expired. I was so upset that I decided to look at the other items I bought, and sure enough, the box of steam flour cakes had expired back in 2014 of September. I went by this morning to refund all the expired items. To my amazement, they posted a little signed that said they would not do a refund, regardless of the situation. I spoke to the store owner specifically about the Jello, and told him about the smell. He opened it up, and ate it. Told me that: " That's how it's supposed to taste like." I was completely baffled. I guess I must have been buying the wrong jello all my life. The old, wet-socks tasting jello was the right flavor. We had a debate about it, and then I also showed him the expired box from 2014 and all he said was that he could refund me for the expired box, but not the jello because it had not expired. Of course, no tags to showed that it expired meant it was still good. I WILL NOT recommend anyone to go here. Not even my worse enemies. If you do not believe me, as soon as you enter the store, adjacent to the cash register, look at their "HALF PRICE OFF of EXPIRED ITEMS". Is this even legal??!! Needless to say, I walked out of the store. I decided they can keep my money, but they will never see me there again. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST if you want Asian ingredients.
