As soon as we walked in the door, my wife and I were instantly charmed by Far Gohn. We were on a weekend trip in Shenandoah for our anniversary and craving a cozy local spot for a pizza and a beer. Far Gohn hit it out of the park. Definitely a local tavern...they reminded me more of the pubs you find in a small European town or the UK. Warm, cozy, and inviting. We immediately felt at home. Now to the people who complain here that they were "ignored" by the bartenders or that service took forever...read: local spot. If you're from out of town and you're expecting rushed service and the immediacy of the big city, this might not be the place for you. But if you're looking for something truly special, slide up to the bar. Be patient...the bartender will be there as soon as they're done listening to Old Bill tell his story. Order a beer and a pizza and take a seat at one of their small tables. Enjoy and unhurried drink. And right about the time you're feeling like ordering a second beer, your hot, delicious, perfectly cooked pizza will be dropping out of the ceiling on a dumb waiter (yes, from the ceiling...you read that right). Smother it in locally made hot sauce (an unexpected plus), grab your second beer and enjoy that delicious pizza with someone you love, or the new friend you made at the table next to you. I've been to Far Gohn a few times with friends and it's become a bit of a staple in the town. There's quite a few people who are regulars there and there's this unique vibe to the place that really makes it stand out from everywhere else. That being said, there's some issues with it that are hard to overlook. I'll start by saying that the staff are mostly really kind and professional. There have been one or two who looked like they hated their jobs, but everyone else has been attentive. There's not a whole lot of seating space available at this location. So, if you're trying to visit during peak hours, it might be a bit difficult. There's some outside seating available, but if it's raining or anything, it's not recommended. The chief problem I've had is with the pizza. Nevermind the fact a German style brewery is making pizzas - the pizzas themselves are an absolute hit or miss, with most of the time being misses. The pizzas are overpriced for how inconsistent the quality is. They're either just right or super crunchy and inedible. If you're ordering to-go, add 10-20 minutes to the wait time they give you and that's how long it'll actually take. If you're here for a decent brew, it's a decent brewery with a bit of a following in Culpeper and it's worth checking out. I'd steer clear of the pizzas. read more

We wanted a quick lunch out and had some recommendations to try Far Gohn based on the beer as well as the pizza. The pizza decision was the toughest, but we split the 12" meat lovers. Usually I'm not one for a loaded meat pizza, but this was great. The crust barely held up and needed a little fold, but was cooked really well and close to the pizza I grew up with in NJ. I had what was closest to a beer... the lemon radler. Admittedly I enjoy sweet, and I think this was a perfect balance of just sweet and lemon-y enough without feeling like I had a lemonade. My wife had the berry cider, which was also on the JUST slightly sweet side. I'm not a dry cider person and I would have ordered one of those as well. We'll definitely head back and need to check out some of their specials. read more

Sorry there's no pizza but a photo wouldn't have done it justice. The supreme had plenty of toppings and the crust was perfect from the hard outside to soft and airy inside. Now the picture, the beer was flavorful and hoppy which made me happy to go for seconds. read more

Inside an 1885 old mill building to historic Culpeper is a popular brewery called Far Gohn Brewing Company. After rock climbing nearby at State Climb, my group of seven guys went for beer and pizza on a Friday early evening. Here's our experience: 1) Drinks: With 14 different beers on tap, there's something for everyone. They have all the traditional beer flavors as well as a passionfruit sour, a hard cider, and radlers. Since they were out of their sour, I ordered the cider. It was sweet and refreshing. 2) Food: They make eleven different kinds of pizza that come in 12 inches or 16 inches. To feed seven guys for dinner, we ordered four pizzas- Meat Lovers, Supreme, Flammkuchen White Pizza, and Octoberfest German Brat Pizza. We each got 4-5 slices and left content. The Meat Lovers and Supreme Pizza were the winners. The dough especially was very good. (It took about 15 minutes for our pizzas to come out after ordering, which is great!) 3) Space: The brick building is historic and comes with seating and a bar inside. Our haus light was poured with zero head, flat. Tasted it, mouthfeel was close to flat. Returned to bar, asked politely if we could get something different, as the beer was flat (or super low carbonation). Manager Alicia 'flat out' said no, and seemed quite annoyed that I asked. Said it wasn't flat. If not completely flat it was woefully under carbonated. She said she had sold 150 people this beer 'and not one complaint'. Well, there was ONE complaint....mine. She said I could have tried any beer before ordering. It was busy due to trivia night, and there were seven people behind me in line. I know because I brought them all here after dinner at a nearby restaurant. Tipped 20% to Alicia for my beer order, and was very unhappy with the Haus Light beer and even more so with Alicia's insulting response. I brought 7 friends there as first-time guests. Would it kill her to replace the beer with something properly carbonated? I'd expect low carbonation in a traditional cask ale, and this was less than a cask ale would have. read more

My daughter and I went here 9/7/24 and we sat there while the waitress could clearly see us and never asked if we wanted anything! We were completely ignored! The other waitress from the other end of the bar came and helped us, but wasn't friendly! I'll never go back again! Bad customer service and attitude! Today we did let the team know it was raw and they advised me to order "well done" next time. Offered, no resolution to the solution. What a find! My Son, his girlfriend and I stopped here on a Wednesday night for a beer and pizza. This place reminded me of an old Irish or English pub. The IPA my son and I had was amazing and the cider his girlfriend had was delish! The pizza was amazing. The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. We will be back.....soon! read more

Cute brewery-not large but has many tables and a large selection of beers on tap. Easy to get a flight of four to try a variety of beers. The brewery is clearly popular with locals (a lot of families there during opening hour) and the beer was good. I'd love to come back with friends sometime. read more

This is a fantastic brewery located in downtown/historic Culpeper. I have visited here a few times after completing hikes in Shenandoah and it is the perfect place to carb up on beer and pizza after grueling hikes. They offer a wide variety of beer from IPA's and porters to Hefeweizens, Kolchs, and radlers. It seems like they have about 20 different beers to sample including a margarita radler which is refreshing in hot days. They also offer delicious, made from scratch oven fired pizza. Their pizzas hit the spot and they have around 6 different pies to choose from. This place has a great atmosphere/vibe to it with seating on the inside as well as the outside. We always sit outside with our dog and enjoy the nice weather while playing some hillbilly golf. Definitely recommend trying this place out for any fan of good beer and pizza, or just a fan of a neat spot. read more

We visited here on a Friday after eating dinner at Thai Culpeper. The place was packed! Fortunately, our timing was such that a table opened up that could seat the 7 of us. Three of the guys ordered the entire flight of 10 brews, whereas the women folk ordered pints of the Ginger Ale: - Grandpa's Dutzel Altbier - Nelson Wizen American Wheat - Yager Mountain Pale Ale - Imberbrau Ginger - Grundbier Scottish - Coon's Process Pale Ale - Madden's IPA - Ruth O'Dell Dry Stout - Infuser Special Cocoa Stout - Lemon Radler All of their brews were interesting, even the ones I was not a fan of. I particularly enjoyed the Yager Mountain Pale Ale, the Coon's Process Pale Ale, and the Madden's IPA. After we completed our flight, I ordered a pint of the Coon's Process Pale Ale. Appropriately, it has a bit of a deliciously skunky, hoppy aspect to it. The folks working the counter were super nice. I look forward to coming back here again! Good brews! read more

Really nice visit; laid back vibe and good beer. The variety was remarkable as well. Maybe because it's in town, it reminds me more of a regular bar where everyone knows your name than your stereotypical brewery. They had more IPAs than they had on my first visit, but I still managed to find a few brews I liked. What I tried: Margarita Radler: Excellent! Very citrusy Ferhoodle (Hefeweizen): Pretty good Sleeping Elefant (East Coast IPA): As someone who typically doesn't enjoy IPAs this wasn't for me, but that doesn't reflect badly on the beer Looder (West Coast IPA): Smoother, less hop forward than the East Coast, but still too much for me Doppler Elephant (Double IPA): See above Dunkel Dimmel (Brown Porter): Pretty good; nice finish to it Helleschwarz (Black IPA): Not sure how to describe this one. I didn't dislike it, didn't love it, it was just...different Aesel (Kolsh): Petty good! This place is awesome! The beer is phenomenal and so is the service. I didn't try a single beer I didn't like. I tried a flight and ended up ordering the hazy IPA. They also sell pizza. First visit today. I had the Irish Red Ale...great stuff. The pizza? OMG...I am a pizza snob. Sorry, but I have yet to find a pizza place in Virginia that can compare to NY. I found it today. The crust is perfection, not too thick, not doughy--fresh. The toppings are fresh and flavorful. I wasn't sitting in a pile of grease, it didn't flop when getting the slice in your mouth. We will be back. The gal behind the bar was friendly and accommodating. The young man serving the pizza and cleaning up was equally professional and attentive. Found this place after my friends and I spent a full day hiking. The beer options - 12 in all - were all delicious, from what we tried. I particularly liked the mango sour, milk stout and octoberfest. They have plenty of outdoor seating, although a ton of flies which made eating a little complicated. If you're looking for food, they make pizza there but also allow you to bring your own in. We got the veggie and enjoyed it, and one from our party got Thai from down the street. Loved visiting Far Gohn Brewing Company during my time in Culpeper. The owner and staff are very welcoming; they'll chat with you a little but also give you space if you're there with a group. It is overall a very chill, relaxing place to grab some beer with friends. The radlers are excellent, as are their IPAs. They have a cool deal for repeat customers, likely those who live in the area -- for $100 you get your own engraved mug that they keep in the brewery for you to use whenever you come, and for the price of a pint, you get a larger beer (not sure how many oz. but it sounded like a good deal if you frequent the bar a lot). There is plenty of seating, an outdoor area for when the weather is nice. Definitely somewhere to stop by when you're in the area! read more

The beer selection is plentiful, there is something for everyone including a unique twist on a margarita. The owner/brewer is on sight and interacts with patrons. This place is about 200 feet from my office so it is really convenient. That was my incentive for trying it, but the beers, cozy inside, awesome staff, tent, and live music are the reasons I bought a stein and keep coming back. You can buy a stein and have it engraved so you leave a little piece of you that makes you want to come back again and again. My favorite beers are the Porter and the Stout. They are not have heavy but just as tasty as the macro-brews. read more

I love this hangout spot! They have room inside but also have a nice little seating area outside. My favorite beer there is the Margarita Radler which comes with a sugar rim. Overall the beer is really good and the staff is super friendly. The location is great for downtown Culpeper and they have a private parking lot which is super convenient. Visited here the last weekend in 2018. Very nice little spot that was hopping with people. The bartenders are very friendly, and they offer little snacks to order. We ordered the flight of all they had to offer and really enjoyed what they were brewing. I'm not an IPA fan, but they also offered lighter and darker beers which I liked, as well as a "shanty" that was a really different and delicious option. The bathrooms were well kept and clean (can't say that in every bar/brewery!) and had some interesting and funny decor in the walls! read more

New Brew Pub in Culpeper. No food, you can bring your own. They currently have 6 beers on tap. They are all very tasty. I didnt notice any of the troubles some nano-brewerys have on startup. The beer was tasty, fresh and cold. I am not a beer expert. I dont like your standard large brewey beers, but I can't tell you all of the taste notes of the Far Gohn beers and the particulars. But the Dunkle Stout (?) and Heffe Weizen were great. The others were very good too. They are advertising more beers to come. Head on down and give them a taste. Thur, Fri and Sat night.
