My husband and I have been here twice. The first time was in the winter so we spent time in the tasting room. We were there again yesterday and spent time outside. This place is gorgeous, the staff is super friendly and I love their wine! I just wish we lived closer so we could come more often. For anyone part of Harvest Hosts, I highly recommend camping here. Smaller selection of beer, but a good variety with 2 IPAs and 2 Sours. They have a smaller food menu as well. Service was friendly. The big prize is the view, overlooking mountains and vineyards. read more

We visited Shotwell Run Brewing Co. for the first time a few weeks ago. The brewery itself is located in a quiet area along the Eastern front of the Appalachians. Inside, lots of gorgeous hardwoods proliferate. A fireplace adorns one end of the tasting room. Lots of seating throughout - with options for games such as Chess and Cribbage. There is also seating outside out back - but it was too cold to sit outside the day we visited. I tasted all seven beers they had available that day. I enjoyed most of them. My wife and I decided to take the trip out here from Alexandria for a nice weekend getaway. Oktoberfest was going on at the brewery and an apple festival and several other events were happening that weekend, so we weren't able to find lodging close by. However, we decided to still go down and just make it a day trip. I am glad we decided to still go down. Everything was amazing! The views, the wine, the beer, the food truck, and the people! If I could give our experience six stars I sure would! I had never had a wine flight before. Those mini wine glasses were super cute! I was told that this was their first yield of bottled wine since they planted their grapes a few years ago. For them to be new, it was fantastic wine! And then we had the Oktoberfest flight. All of the beers were crisp and had very distinct flavors. Their descriptions fit them all to a T! We were very pleased with both flights to say the least. Since it was Oktoberfest, they had pony rides (we just rubbed her and gave her a little love), a food truck, very nice decorations and live music. I'm glad we got to experience the first Oktoberfest fest there. It will not be out last time visiting. If you want to meet great people while sipping amazing beer and/or wine, do yourself a favor and visit this spot. read more

A fun spot to stop by for a beverage. In addition to being a brewing company, they also offer wine and cider tastings. Along with that they have food trucks and entertainment. It is so far off the beaten path most of the people there were locals and that was fine with us. For an even richer experience, you can book an hour-long horseback ride Fieldstone Trails that includes going past the Shotwell Run lodge and through their vineyards. read more

The views alone are worth a trip, especially if you aren't from the area and don't see sights like this daily. The selection of beer offerings was small, compared to other craft breweries in the area. Although they also have wine options, but none of us opted for wine. The service wasn't great. They were hesitant to let us sample anything before making a decision. And the server seemed annoyed that one person in my party changed her mind after he wrote down her original request. The prohibition ale is aptly named, it tastes like something from back in the day. We took a crowler of that one home. The maibock was my favorite. Delicious and very drinkable. I also got a Crowler if that one. Overall a good experience but I'd opt for other breweries in the area over this one for a second go-around. read more

I had a great time at Shotwell Run. The owners and staff are a pleasure. I enjoyed every beer I tasted during Oktoberfest - spoiler: I had all of them. The view from the back patio is everything you need when it's time to sit back and relax with a beer. If outside isn't favorable, there's also a large tasting room. We loved visiting here on a Friday night to drink their beer, wine and listen to some local music. They have some great beers including several IPA's. Their burgers were grilled on the patio to order. The views alone are worth a visit. Plenty of outdoor seating overlooking mountains and very dog friendly. Only a 15 min drive from Sperryville. Plenty of parking and also have food trucks some nights. read more

My now-husband and I rented out Shotwell for a welcome event for our guests the night before our wedding. Chris Wallin, the owner, was an absolute joy to work with, and charged us what I thought was a very reasonable rate. The setting of the brewery is stunning - our guests' jaws dropped when they arrived. Every beer is delicious too! We managed to put together a rag-tag band of the various musicians in our families, and even though it thunder stormed for part of our party, everyone stayed dry and had a great time. Chris and her staff were so lovely, it felt like they were part of the party. We will have to make a stop by there now every time we are back in the Shenandoah region. Another new brewery in the area. Great venue with awesome views. Beautiful building and the owners are friendly and make you feel welcome. Unique set up as the tasting bar is both for the brewery and their winery. Nice but can easily get crowded. Only did a beer tasting and all were good. Especially liked the stout. They have a variety of food trucks and you can bring your own. Only problem is there access road. Very rough and dusty. You may need a car wash after visiting. Also, there are a few spots that make speed bumps look like ant hills. read more

We spent a weekend at an Airbnb close by and we came here every day because it was such a great spot. It has an awesome view, great beer, and the staff was very laid back. We only tried one of the wines and it was good. The second day we got lucky because they were having a crab fest. The music was great too. The perfect place to relax after hiking Old Rag. Gorgeous property, wonderful ownership, beer and wine were lovely. Our two dogs were able to run and explore the vineyards before falling asleep by the outdoor fire pit. I was honestly surprised I hadn't seen this pop up in my recommendations and lists - turns out the expansion is just a few months old. A must see and somewhere I'll highly recommend! read more

Great experience, especially for a recent upstart. All staff (owners included) were friendly. My two friends said that the 4 beers featured were very diverse thus there would likely be at least one that would appeal to a beer lover (unfortunately, I do not care for beer of any description). They both liked three of the 4. And each had a different "favorite". The free freshly popped popcorn was a real treat. Tasting room is shared with Blue Quartz Winery. I loved the two red wines. My friends also enjoyed the white and cider (I just don't happen to like the white variety or cider regardless of winery). The Little Country Store was doing BBQ on site...Don is a gourmet on the grill. The tasting room is simple but beautiful. Fantastic view from patio. Been to many adult beverage makers throughout Virginia and Maryland. Was so pleasantly surprised to find such quality at a location less than 15 miles from my home! read more
