We only had one beer, an IPA, and it was good, so I can't comment as to the full extent of their offerings, but we enjoyed the one we ordered. 4/5, February 2026. This place had been on our list for a while but we just hadn't gotten around to visiting Culpeper in a few years. I'm glad we were able to make it. The vibe was fun and casual and it seems like a favorite local hangout. The service was good and friendly with the staff checking in on us as we were enjoying the beer. We didn't get a chance to try the food but the beer was good across a wide range of styles. I hope someone is able carry this place forward in some form. read more

Friendly greeting from the man behind the counter. The place was JAMMING on a recent Friday night with big crowd for karaoke. The crowd seemed very appreciative of those who sang and the music selection was something I enjoyed. It was loud though so we sat outside on the patio. The place is right across the street from the old train station and Culpepper Museum. Got the Czech lager and the English brown ale. Both were fine. Underrated local brewery with a chill atmosphere, friendly staff, and good beer. This place gets lower ratings for their beer than I think they deserve. They don't make any crazy stouts, tons of sours, or lots of crazy IPAs, which is where all the fuss happens in beer today. I love those things, but I also appreciate the more subdued beer here. The last visit, I really liked their Volt IPA (which despite their claims is a bit dry, citrusy and hazy), their hazelnut brown ale, and their Declán Irish lager that was creamy and different. Their other beers were nice as well. You could get flights of 5 or 9 beers with 5-oz pours each. If you knew what you wanted, you could get full pints and 10-oz pours as well. They seemed like they had a nice selection of pizza and sandwiches as well. The place had a very chill, wood and industrial chic vibe while still being cozy and friendly. Had many pleasant experiences there (never ordered food, oddly enough) but loved their décor and setting and this was Culpeper's original craft brewery. Enjoyable pitstop on my recent trip to downtown Culpeper. Situated near the Amtrak, there seemed to be a good amount of different parking options available. The inside was open and inviting, easy to find a place to sit. I tried their two IPAs on tap and vastly enjoyed their Alpine. Since Culpeper was doing a Marti Gra celebration their special menu included a shrimp po'boy which was tasty; they even added a bit more sauce for me when I asked. The only downside is that their stickers were $4 which might be the most I've paid for brewery stickers since I started collecting them. read more

Staying overnight in Culpeper on our way to Charlottesville, we were looking for a place to get dinner and have a beer. Yelpers steered us toward Beer Hound Brewery, where we could experience the historic district of this charming town, as well as get some tasty beer and snacks. We were welcomed in by the bartenders who let us sample then pick our flights. We did flights of five: Wild Bill, Teddy, Tank, Declan, and Rosco Rye. Also: Tank, Zoeie, Declan, Rosco Rye, and Scottie. The Zoeie was my favorite, as it was a smooth black lager with dark roasted malts. Yum! We noshed on Toto's Tots (cheese, bacon, chives) and sausage pizza. Everything was very affordable and yummers. There were lots of dogs outside on the patio, as well as inside the brewery. It is Beer Hound, after all. We were invited to play trivia, but declined, yet asked to join after we crushed the first round without even competing. What a cute, charming and fun place to grab some beer and light fare. And enjoy trivia night and the company of man's best friend........lots of them. read more

We are such fans of independently owned breweries. Bartender was super-friendly and easily willing to share info about the beer and their names. We shared a flight of beer and order of soft pretzel sticks that came spicy mustard and cheese. We enjoyed it all. In the pursuit of hoppiness? You found it at this cool brewery in Culpeper! What a relaxed vibe from the moment you walk in and grab a seat at a booth, a long table or a bar stool. There's also outdoor seating when the weather cooperates! We were greeted by one of the owners, Ralph, who was passionate about their beer offerings! He went over the menu with us and detailed each beer. All the brews are named after dogs, thus the name of this chill venue! Pictures of the dogs are hung along the restroom corridor. We ordered a flight so that we could try all of them!! Ready for take off! The seasonal winter brown ale was delightfully spiced with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and allspice. It's named Snots, after the dog from Christmas Vacation. We also liked the kolsh, Sgt. Stubby, which is a light drinkable brew. Another fav was Fanz, an oatmeal stout. And don't forget to try Winston! A creamy rich root beer! We took home a jug of this sarsaparilla sensation! We also grabbed a six pack of Olde Yella and a few crowders! You can't go wrong, these brews are sure to cure whatever ales you. (And yes, they allow dogs.) I'm oscillating between 3.5 - 4 stars for this review. A bunch of us came in on a Friday night right at 9:00 pm. The place was empty - I asked if they were still open - the guys at the bar advised they would be open until 10:00 pm. I ordered the full flight of 9 brews - I was the only one in our group to do so - the rest ordered 2 - 3 of this or that. I had the following: Wyte Fang (Witbier) (5.4% ABV) Apollo (Hefeweizen) (5.3% ABV) Scottie (Scottish Ale) (4.1% ABV) Duke (Amber Ale) (4.8% ABV) Archie (Brown Ale) (5.1% ABV) Buck Bundy (Vanilla Porter) (5.8% ABV) Olde Yella (Pale Wheat Ale) (6.1% ABV) Mutt (American IPA) (7.1% ABV) Fang (Oatmeal Stout) (5.1% ABV) I usually like American Pale Ales and American IPAs - but I was not a fan of either here. They were both rather bland. I also found the Scottie, Duke, and Archie to be flat. What I did enjoy - and I was surprised by this - as I don't typically gravitate towards Wits and Hefs - was the Wyte Fang and the Apollo. Both were light, crisp, enjoyable brews - which I feel work well in summer heat and humidity. Both had a light hint of citrus to them. The Wyte Fang was so good that after I completed my tasting flight - I had a pint of it! I also enjoyed the Buck Bundy - it had a nice richness to it - but not something I could drink a lot of in the summer time. This would make a great Autumn time or winter time Porter! The guys running the place were cool. There were a couple of TV's on showing a couple of Major League Baseball games. There is a ton of seating inside - and some seating outside on the porch. Nice little brewery - I'm sure I will be back to drag some of my crew with me to try it out! read more

Nice selection of beers, only a few of which were overly-hoppy. The facilities and beer are worth 4 stars, although price is a problem (see last comment). Beer Hound is aptly named because of the dog-theme and dog-friendliness on the patio (but no longer in the tap room, sorry dog lovers). On top of that, they recently introduced a limited food menu. Mostly sandwiches and pizza, but more than enough for a decent lunch or even dinner. My reuben was quite good. While technically they are a brewery as opposed to a brew pub, I think the later is the direction they are going. The location was certainly more upscale than some random warehouse that many other breweries set up shop in. I didn't notice a focus on any particular brewing style; the brewmaster seems happy to keep his beers eclectic and accessible to a broad audience. I even found a few styles (like the Scotch) I seldom see elsewhere. A handful like the Blonde would probably be considered "Flagship" beers, although I'm not 100% positive which others have near-permanent status. They also have a nice Root beer, which I had a sip of. My beer flight included 9 x 4 ounce beer tastings; that's basically 2 beers worth. I liked the Amber the most, followed by the Mutt IPA, which seemed very subdued by IPA standards. The Fang Oatmeal stout was also nice, with a bit of coffee. The Blonde was a tad sweet for me. As for the Tripple IPA and Weily, I could take or leave them. The only one I didn't like was the Scotch, but that's no fault of theirs - I've never found a Scotch beer I've liked. My other 2 were apparently more forgettable. My biggest complaints are the $24 price tag on the tastings (although admittedly I was getting 2 beers) and they charge an automatic 20% gratuity, no matter the size of your party, or if you carry your own beer from the counter. My server was great, but that's stretching it. read more

Beer Hound is a solid brewery in the tiny town of Culpeper. They have a lot of space and a patio and a more modern and contemporary scene than the other brewery in town. If you are in town you should stop by and sample the beers, just don't forget to hit up the other brewery as well. read more

We have visited Culpeper a few times, and somehow never come across this gem. The menu is limited, but the beer is top notch. The Beer Hound Brewery is gaining popularity among the karaoke singers that enjoy good beer, a great sound system, and a fun karaoke show. Karaoke nights are every-other Friday (the other Friday nights are trivia nights.) Kids often come to karaoke night, (and sing) and, several customers bring their dogs, too. We stopped by for a quick beer and snack before heading to our cabin for the weekend. We had our pups with us and their Facebook page said it was doggy happy hour so we chose this brewery to stop at. The beer and pizza were great. The woman working the counter was rude. Our 2 dogs are a year old, so a little active, they were leashed and we were doing the best we could with their behaviors in a new environment. They weren't offered water or treats like the FB page said and we were pretty much kicked out of the tasting room. We sat in the patio and finished up. The people seated around us were really nice and enjoyed being around our puppies. Unfortunately, the lack of customer service by one employee or owner ruined the experience and we won't be back. read more

Woof! This place rocks. We came here as beer snob visitors from Austin, TX, and we were blown away with the quality of the brews and the chill, friendly atmosphere. The standout for me was the Belgian Tripel Teufelhund. Crisp, cohesive, slightly sweet -- it was a great example of the breed. Awesome atmosphere, really solid beers. We're from the Northern VA area, where breweries have popped up every couple of miles, and we regularly take trips across the country to find the best beers we can find. Beer Hound Brewery nailed every one we tried - not your "we make small batches out of figs and unicorn hooves aged in rum barrels" type brewery, but really solid and tasty representation of several different styles. Especially enjoyed the Teufelhund (Abbey Blonde Ale) and Fang (Oatmeal Stout). Tasters and full pours available. Atmosphere is laid back, great music choices (+ live music Saturday night), and friendly ownership and clientele. We'll be back for sure, and can't wait to try out the outdoor seating in the spring. read more

An adorable brewery right smack in "town" off of Maine Street. Not much of a view but the outdoor patio and seating is nice. Complimentary peanuts and a super friendly brewmaster made this a high quality stop. You get to decide what brews make up your sample. I went with the 5 beer sample and was not disappointed. Good quality beer. All named after "famous" and "not as famous" dogs- either real or Hollywood. Super cute. Also some warm snack options too! read more

There are a lot of great breweries in the Culpepper and Warrenton area that I love but this isn't one of them. I made the mistake of going here and was met with beer as bad as the service I got from the incredibly rude people running this place. I would have been happy to drink their low quality beer and thank them but they were unhelpful and acted like my being there was an inconvenience to them. I feel bad for anybody else who tries to give them their business. read more

Beerhound is supposed to be a dog friendly establishment I brought my 8 month old husky in there on Trivia night and they warned me twice to keep him in control or I'd have to leave. One time the owner said my dog was too loud but there was a table that wasn't participating in Trivia that was louder than my dog. Then they said that my dog was in the middle of the aisle but he wasn't because he didn't leave between my legs and they said it was a safety hazard and he was thinking about his customers that was a lie. I will not go to beerhound again with or without my dog and I wouldn't take your dog either. you might be getting kicked out if your dog is let say very active. Lol read more
