If you're visiting Death Valley, I cannot recommend renting a jeep for some off road adventures enough! We rented one for 1 day and had an absolute BLAST! We picked the car up in the morning, the staff member gave us maps and directions to the spots we were hoping to go to as well as suggestions for other places to go, walked us through all the Jeep features and the emergency beacon, and then we were able to use the car right until they opened the next morning which was amazing!! We checked out some mines which were really cool. Definitely recommend getting their windshield insurance (it's so cheap and gives you peace of mind) - we didn't need it. read more

Amazing place to rent a jeep for the day. Needed jeep to hit to Devil's Racetrack. First off, don't let anyone convince you that you don't need one. You definitely do. Richard was so nice and extremely helpful. He gave me tips and di a great job of orienting on the jeep. I had never driven one. They provide an ice chest, ice, and whatever water you need. Here is what I would say. Read other reviews about customer service,, they are true. When you go to Death Valley there are a lot of things you can do with a car, on pavement. But that is about 5% of what there really is to see. Now if you hate you car and want to do some damage that may last, that is your prerogative on trails like Titus Canyon and others. But if you want a machine that can take you anywhere you want to go, this is the place to rent that machine. Roads that guide books will tell you take 45 minutes,, takes 10. One point we came to a spot where the trail was gone and it was about a 2 foot drop. My wife says,, what now. I tell her, ,now you see what this machine can do. Afterwards her reply was,, now I see what Jeep can do. So so so much fun. I will be back. I thank Farabee's for the greatest trip yet to DV. read more

Farabee's is so much more than just an awesome business! They have a reputation of "truly taking care of people"! We experienced that first hand! We did not even rent a Jeep from them because we have our own, but they took care of us as if we were family or their VIP customers. We slashed 2 tires on a remote road in Death Valley and had the wrong tire tools with us! Some very kind hearted people (now who will be lifelong friends) stopped and helped us. They told us about the "caring reputation" of Farabee's! (Farabee's even equips all renters with kits to assist others they may see in need on the road ... AMAZING!) These kind people drove us over an hour to a hotel in Furnace Creek and the next morning we knocked on Farabee's door before they opened! The owner Richard, and his family took such good care of us! They dedicated the best part of their day to us! Ryan Farabee, loaded up his truck with every imaginable tool and several spare tires. Drove us over an hour away to our impaired vehicle! He changed our tires, then made sure we got back safely! Then he sold us a complete set of used wheels and tires in great shape, installed them, washed our Jeep and then got us back on the road in short order! They could have charged us a fortune for all they did... but as it turns out what we paid was a fraction of a fraction of what it would have been to call on a tow service and a fraction of what we expected or would have paid at our local tire place back home! (The Ranger had actually told us to expect to pay over $2000 for a tow! Woah!) The world would be a better place if there were more people like the Farabee's! They are the salt of the earth kinda folks and will take good care of you and yours! And by the way, most tires and vehicles are not made for some of these remote roads in Death Valley! The rocks are as sharp as knives! We have a new and tough Jeep Gladiator, but not the special tires needed to take on these rocks! It was a little hard initially getting someone on the phone, but after a couple emails it was smooth sailing. Kyler was really helpful on the phone booking our 2 day reservation for a 4-door Jeep and even more helpful when we picked it up. Walking us through the recommended trails and safety features of the vehicle. Our intention was to take it back country, and it handled it great (Titus Canyon (super rad terrain), Echo Canyon, Racetrack Road, and everywhere else we wanted). While the price was higher than I expected, having the peace of mind that it's not yours lol and the convenient location in DVNP, made it all worth it. read more

Richard was extremely kind and helpful to my family and me when our vehicle broke down in Death Valley (on August 11, 2023). The Serpentine belt broke. 3pm on a Friday and 108 - 111 F out. He came and accurately diagnosed the problem (that the serpentine belt broke). He stayed with us several hours assisting us with solutions to get 8 of us and our broken-down Sienna out of Death Valley. In the end, because no tow trucks were available, he rented us 2 of his jeeps for a super good deal (out of the kindness of his heart) so we could drive to Pahrump, NV to sleep overnight. He rented the jeeps to us for the rest of our trip to Bodie, Mono Lake, Mammoth Lakes; while our vehicle was stuck at the repair shop in Pahrump. When we were unable to get rental vehicles through Enterprise, Avis, etc. ... Richard ended up letting us take the jeeps back to our house in Santa Ana, CA; for the same super cheap rate per day and endless mileage. Once our vehicle was fixed, Richard kindly offered for us to drop the jeeps off (not in Death Valley) but in Pahrump where our vehicle was. Via his son, daughter, and whoever else ... he took the burden to get his jeeps from Pahrump back to Death Valley w/o charging us for it. He was an absolute God-send; no doubt. The Oasis Resort/Inn (in Death Valley) no help. "No rooms in the Inn". AAA, made things harder with computer issues and bureaucracy and therefore cost us extra money. Enterprise Rent-a-Car ... was the worst. They promised us rental vehicles (confirmation number and all). The next day they called us when we were within 3 miles of picking up the vehicles in Bishop, CA ... to tell us they had no vehicles for us. Hence, Richard ended up being flexible and told us to drive his jeeps home. He's super knowledgeable and great to talk to. It's 2023 ... we have smartphones, self-driving vehicles, AI technology, etc. And yet, if it wasn't for Richard ... 8 people wouldn't have been able to get out of Death Valley and wouldn't have a place to stay overnight; as if it was the 1800's. -- David and Anna H. They have a small side business doing tire repairs (plugs or patches) for the drivers who did not have the foresight to rent one of their Jeeps. They are friendly, helpful, and quick. Sometime during my trip, one of my tires picked up a nail and they offered a fair price to fix it. I'm not sure if I got the nail on or off road, but I will definitely consider renting a Jeep from them next time too tackle some of the more exciting off-road terrain. read more

First the positives, then the negatives. POSITIVES: Kyler Farabee, the son: He spoke with me on the phone several times as I called to ask questions about Jeep rentals, and the all-day trip to The Racetrack. From what I'd read elsewhere online, I was TERRIFIED to try and rent a Jeep and drive the sharp-rocked rough gravel-graded road to the The Racetrack. So we requested and booked a tour, where someone was to drive us out there and back. Kyler, continued: When the California mandate to once again "lock-down" hit, Farabee's made the difficult yet ethical decision to cancel all tours, since it would be two separate family groups in close proximity (my guess it might have been Ryan Farabee, other son, driving). He gently suggested that I could rent a jeep and still drive out myself (my wife and I). My reaction: "talk me into it. I don't want to change any flat tires." He proceeded to let me know that the heavy-duty tires they have on those jeeps are not prone to flats. And that full instructions and equipment (jack) comes with each vehicle for changing a tire. Finally, a satellite device (SPOT) is sent with us for getting help in any emergency. SOLD! Richard, the dad: Richard met us Wed morning 12/09 at 8:00am. He was SO reassuring. He showed me the SPOT device, demonstrating how to turn it on and send a HELP signal. He pointed to the 911 button (but did not demonstrate). He had me sit in the vehicle and start it up. It's not like I expected... keyless start, digital display, tons of helpful information on the console. Finally he showed me the jack and tire changing equipment with instructions, easily accessible in the back. Then the part that touched my heart: He showed me a can of "Fix-it". He said that it wasn't for the giant tires on the jeep, but rather for other vehicles who might be flat - "just give it away to them" he said. Ryan, the other son: Dude looked really cool in his aqua-teal hair, and he was nice too as he worked with his father to check in another couple who were renting, too, a few minutes after us. His business card says "Mechanic" and he looked really knowledgeable. The vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler rode like a Lexus, I swear. When we hit the rough sharp-stoned road, I pulled it into 4WD just like Richard showed me. The ride and rental was a pleasure, totally do-able, and all my fears are wiped away. We'll rent again on next visit, perhaps to do Titus Canyon and Echo Canyon. Drop-off was super easy - filled it at the adjacent 24-hour gas station, and locked it, pushing the key through the hole in the door designed for this purpose. NEGATIVES: None. Ha ha I played you. The best way to see Death Valley is on a jeep tour led by an expert guide. From the Badwater Basin to the highest peaks, our guide, Jesse, led us to the back roads and famous sites and locations we would never go on our own. Once we viewed the Painters' Palette where Star Wars was filmed, and viewed the requisite sites, we reconvened after lunch for a trek through Titus Canyon. You don't want to take this axle-breaking, mountain-hugging route in your family sedan. Jesse has rescued a number of tourists and their vehicles from the canyons. On the tour we got to see ancient pictographs and visited the Leadfield ghost town. The full day tour was worth our time and every penny. read more

We did the 3 hour "Star Wars" tour and our guide, Jesse, was amazing. Not only did he know about all the Star Wars filming locations, but we literally could not stump him with all our questions about Death Valley. The only thing he did not know was the exact location of the International Seed Vault (it's in Norway, not Iceland) which, to be fair, has nothing to do with Death Valley. Suffice it to say that our conversation with him during the 3 hour ride was lively and wide-ranging. This is a guy who LOVES his job and LOVES Death Valley. The Jeep was clean & comfortable, and he brought snacks & water along for the trip. The back seat is a little hard to get in & out of if you are tall, but once you are in it's comfortable. read more

I don't ordinarily write a review of a service when I didn't actually receive the service, but I want my fellow tourists to know how excellent Farabee Jeep is when it comes to ethical business practices. We were all set to rent a two-door Jeep for a journey to the Racetrack in Death Valley National Park. At Farabee, Eric set us up with a fantastic Jeep and gave us clear instructions for everything we would need to go. Our next stop was to the Visitors' Center next door, and two park rangers informed us that due to a recent rainstorm, the road to the Racetrack was in poor condition and that it was not recommended to go there. They also said that even if we made it there, the Racetrack itself would not be its typical viewing destination, complete with a photogenic dry playa and moving stones. I was nervous about returning to Farabee Jeep to inform them of the rangers' warnings, but the manager Teresa was very understanding and did not hesitate to refund our entire fee, including the deposit! She said that the Jeep could handle the road even in the post-storm conditions, but that the Racetrack wasn't worth visiting unless it was dry. We were very grateful for this customer service that went above and beyond expectations. We definitely plan to return to rent a Jeep from Farabee so that we can finally see the Racetrack in its full, dry glory! read more

These people have Jeep rental dialed! Every time (well twice) I go to Death Valley, there is a story about someone in an emergency situation. When I decided to go off the main paved road, I figured renting a jeep was being safe rather than sorry. They provide a clean jeep, they had water and ice as part of the rental, they though of small touches like toilet paper in case a restroom was out of TP. They even had a GPS emergency unit in case there was a need. Like I said, rather safe than sorry. Don't think twice, safety and a good service from these fine folks is worth the cost. Sleeping outside, in the wind, and rain could mean several things. If, right next to you there's an alley, a bus station, or maybe a freeway overpass your life took a turn for the worse and you're now officially a bum. However if the things that are right next to you include a trustee 4x4 a few thousand miles of desert, and some mountains you are now officially, an avid outdoorsman and it could be worse. To really appreciate all that modern life has to offer nothing beats going out into the desert, as far from civilization as you possibly can, and while you could do it on a mule - its way more fun to play 3rd world country guerilla and use a good american jeep. Took the Death Valley experience tour AND the next day rented a jeep to travel the 180 Mike round trip to Racetrack, about 80 percent of rentals seem to go there, and it is a perfect beginner level road. As a newbie, the owner was helpful, patient, reassuring and gave me a safe and reliable vehicle to explore for 200 miles a day at a fair price and return anytime that day leaving key in box. Enjoyed it so much, I'd like to do it again at Farabees. Driving the jeep means you are on your own timetable! But, glad I took the tour of Titus canyon with a driver, which was a more intermediate level jeep road, which I myself would have been a little uncomfortable on and unable to fully enjoy the views. read more

My daughter and I went on a jeep tour from a company attached to Farabee's called Backcountry Adventure. We had the all day tour - 6 1/2 hours with 2 hours for lunch. Our guide was Jerry. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable of Death Valley. We decided to eat on the run so Jerry took us to some additional sites. Also, our vehicle was not a jeep but rather a Humvee. We had a very comfortable ride over some pretty rough terrain. I would recommend anyone that goes to Death Valley to take a tour with Backcountry Adventures and ask for Jerry as your guide. You will be able to see parts of Death Valley that you could not see on your own unless you rented a jeep. The difference is you get a tremendous amount of additional information from a knowledgeable guide like Jerry. read more

My girlfriend and I took a trip to Death Valley, April 2010, and wanted to rent a Jeep to take off-road. Farabee's is the only place in town to rent a Jeep so there weren't any options to compare. In fact, this location has only been in operation for a few months (since April 2010). Overall, I was satisfied and would definitely rent from them again. Pros: * Jeeps with 2-inch suspension lift and 32-inch off-road tires * Maps and trail guidance were provided * Cooler with Ice and two bottles of water were provided * Friendly and knowledgeable staff Cons (1) The website specifically stated, "Jeep Wrangler Rubicons". The Jeeps available were Sport and Unlimited models that were modified. While I didn't need the capabilities of the Rubicon, I was expecting them because the website indicated it. (2) They were a bit disorganized. I made a reservation for a 2-door model and none were available at the time of my rental. They gave me the 4-door model at no additional cost. These two reasons were disappointing and the reason for a 4 out of 5 stars. read more

With your rental, they also include a cooler with bottles of water as well as a radio which you can use not just to call them if the Jeep breaks down, but in case of emergency. This gave me huge peace of mind considering there are lots of areas without cellphone signal in Death Valley. Plus, Farabee's location is next to a gas station, The Ranch at Death Valley and a visitor's center where you can park your car for the day. These guys are great. When you find yourself in DV without a decent vehicle and want to do some serious back country travel, this is your ticket. We normally drive our own 4WD to DV but one year we couldn't and the rental 4WD from Vegas fell through (although the substitute Cadillac Escalade was sweet). Enter Farabee for a day of back roading. The Jeep worked just fine and was in good condition. Rates are reasonable considering the location. We'll definitely rent from them again if we need a 4WD. read more

Easy pickup, easy drop off. Allowed my family and I to trek to the race track and back with no issues. We did a one day rental. The Jeep was a newer 4 door rubicon. Everything worked great including the A/C. We didn't have a scorching hot day so we had the top panels off until the late afternoon. Renting the Jeep allowed us to really see Death Valley and appreciate the different landscapes. I would 100 percent recommend this to anyone visiting Death Valley read more

A huge thank you to Kyler for his caring attitude and great service. I was stranded very early morning at the closed gas station with a totally flat tire and no cell service to call for assistance. Kyler stopped on his way into work at the Jeep rental to see if he could help and offered to look at the tire and see if it needed to be replaced . When I came back later that morning he had patched the tire , showed me the piece of metal that caused the problem and even had the car washed!! The charge was way less than I pay for a tank of gas. Kyler totally saved the road trip which was a first to Death Valley for my friends. I hope to return and will definitely take a tour with honest, caring family business. read more

Death Valley is a place easily visited by rental car, you can take in the breathtaking panorama at Dante's View, take a bumpy ride out to the infamous Racetrack and look for the trails of moving rocks, or hit up some of the hiking trails through the many canyons. Accomodations can be nearly resort-like in Furnace Creek and there are well run but cramped campgrounds. But why limit yourself when you can throw your gear into a jeep modified for higher clearance with tires designed to take on true offroad, and ramble along dirt roads, or do some offroading? Unlike many national parks, Death Valley has extremely liberal backwoods camping policies, so long as you stay away from paved roads and water sources. No permits needed. No crowded campgrounds. Beautiful isolation. We rented a two-door jeep for three of us (it was a tight fit, but we fit with all our camping gear and food) and please, please, please, take the time to talk over your itinerary with the extremely helpful owner / manager Richard. He is a one-man show who really knows his stuff, he has driven the trails, and can put together your dream trip. Just give him the amount of time you have, what kind of things you like to do (exploring, climbing, history) and let him know how much offroading experience you have, and he'll give you a map, go over your options and give impeccable suggestions, with accurate timing so you don't feel like you just spent the entire driving each day. There are places like the drive through Titus Canyon, or the 700+ foot Eureka sand dunes, or the amazing backcountry camping in Cottonwood Canyon that we probably never would have discovered on our own. There was peace of mind with the satellite GPS unit with which we checked in with him each night to let him know we were okay, and which gave him our location in case of emergency. Book in advance, even though it was only their second season in 2011, there was a huge waiting list for jeeps for those who hadn't. read more

Well, we were not disappointed! We did the 4 hour Titus Canyon tour with Jerry and it was perfect. Loved his knowledge about the area and he was a safe driver and belongs to a local Jeep club. We were happily greeted with wild flowers at the higher elevations that were even more abundant then on other drives in mid-April. So glad we decided to do this! This was by far, the highlight of our vacation to Death Valley. We had a blast going through Titus Canyon for the day on our own. It was a fun drive, and even I got to drive the jeep (normally my husband drives). The scenery is amazing and fun to see in a way that feels more personal on some back roads where you only see a few people the whole time. Icing on the cake- excellent customer service, great directions, a wealth of information on the area, and excellent running and maintained jeeps. Worth every penny! I'd do it again next time! Good Karma explains Farabee's Jeep Rental. We rented a Jeep for a day and had a great "guy" experience through Titus Canyon, The Racetrack Playa and the road to Telescope Peak. Before pulling out with the Jeep, we were given a thorough explanation of "does" and "don'ts" on the dirt roads of Death Valley, then we were given a can of "Fix-A-Flat" that would not work for our Jeep, but is intended to be given away to another traveler who is stranded on the road. At the time, I didn't think that we would find anyone in need of the can, but we did. On the way out to The Racetrack Playa, we came across a dad and his two young boys along the side of the road. They had not one, but two flat tires. The dad, Bart, was getting ready to drive the twenty miles into Stovepipe Wells on the second flat.
