Every time we have a chance and we are in Dekalb to visit family, we love going to Faranda's for their breakfast or lunch. The food is always great, the service is always kind and helpful, and the restaurant is clean and homey. It's a real treat. The cinnamon rolls are UHmazing, but I've been trying to be good lately. Our usual Sunday breakfast was Delicious. Great menu and many dishes to choose from. And as usual, the portions were ample, so we were able to bring home left overs to enjoy our breakfast tomorrow! Our waitress, Greta, was friendly, attentive and, as my wife remarked, "chipper." I also enjoyed the old pictures and timeline on the walls. Our favorite eat out spot!! read more

I really, really wanted to like this place but, as you cal tell but my preface and the ONE star, I did not. We made a reservation for five people. We ended up having another person go with us and you would have thought that we showed up with a bus full of NFL players the way they acted. We would have understood if they could not have accomodated us but the lady just acted like we killed her kitten and seated us. When we went into the room we saw that every table was an eight-top so what was the big deal? The food was served buffet-style but they bring your beverages. The waitress was good at first getting us our juices and coffees and teas. Bottom line - much of the food was bland and cold (eggs, hashbrowns...). The made-to-order omlettes were good as was the ice cream sundae bar and the fresh fruit. The service got worse as the meal went on and they were not that busy as we went before the churches let out. Difficult to get refills or coffee and hot water for the tea. Very dissapointed as the other place these people own (The Lincoln Inn) is awesome and a favorite among people in town. I realize this place is fairly new but buffet-style is easy. The cost for the meal was $17.95 each which we paid for at the beginning. We included the tip before the meal which, as it turned out, was a mistake as we are very generous tippers for good service and we assumed the service, even though a buffet, would be good - we were wrong. We will not go back here. I can see where it would be a nice place for meetings but I would go somewhere else for the food. There are lots of good places withing walking distance. My advise is to tell you to stay away from this place unless you are into frustration. I am very sad to say that. read more

My fraternity hosted our spring formal at Faranda's and it was very enjoyable! The finger foods were yummy and easily accessible, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend to any large group events! read more

I have been to Faranda's twice now. once for the Open House, and again for the inaugural Sunday brunch. So to be fair, I can not review the banquet part of the facility. As to the Open House, it is an indicator of the food that would be at a banquet. The food was a good variety and very well made. The way the rooms were set up for that it would be very easy seeing a wedding reception or graduation party taking place here. The brunch was excellent. Weather factored in (It was 05JAN14) so when we got there at about 10:30, we were among the first. Again, here was a good variety. Made to order omelets and waffles, a beef carving station as well as an excellent salmon along with standard fare such as scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage, A large selection of fresh pastries rounded things out. This is a business where family is most definitely involved, with three generations represented in the staff (we especially like the coat check). Even with the expected "first run" glitches, nothing of real consequence and the staff were all very friendly and eager to serve. A bar was available starting at around 11AM or so, however we stuck to the available juices and ice tea. The only real issue we had may be just one of those "glitches". There only appeared to be tables set up for parties of 10. Even though there were six of us, it still made it somewhat difficult to have conversations, especially in the quiet atmosphere. We noticed at least two other tables with parties of four or less sitting at them. This is great for banquets however somewhat awkward for a brunch like this. Overall, the brunch was great and you will not be disappointed making a trip here on a Sunday to try it out. I would recommend this without, excuse the pun, reservation. read more

Went for a private party. Looks small from the outside so I didn't expect much. Doors were opened for me by smiling staff and I was welcomed by more staff carrying plates of appetizers. The banquet room was very inviting and the staff was attentive and talkative (in a good way). Open bar included many beers, wines, and mixed drinks. I asked for a drink that the bartender did not have the exact ingredients for but he make-shifted a very similar drink to make up for it (very strong- I'm not complaining). Everyone was having a great time and if I had to force a negative comment it would be about the grilled chicken that didn't taste as good as it looked. read more

I held an event at Farandas this evening and I can't say enough great things about this venue. The atmosphere is very warm and although they can accommodate large crowds it still has a pleasant feel, not institutional. The food was great! Amazing pot roast entree. And the cookies are amazing!!!! I worked with Bill and Shannon and they were great. Excellent value, great food, convenient parking, it's got it all! read more

I had my wedding reception here in June. I cannot say enough about how easy they were to work with, how adaptable and accommodating they were throughout the whole process, and how helpful they were during the event to make sure everything went smoothly. All the guests absolutely raved about the food (fajita buffet and pot roast with mashed potatoes)--not your typical boring average wedding food by any means. Bill is an incredible owner and Shannon was an incredible resource and planner to work with. They accommodated our multicultural requests (my husband is Brazilian) regarding food and service, as well as our individual dietary request for children and adults alike (gluten free, low sodium, etc.). I cannot recommend Farandas enough to anyone planning a wedding (or any event, for that matter) in the DeKalb area. read more

I have been to Faranda's a few times and was very impressed with the waitstaff and food. However, my most recent visit on Easter was a very different experience because I noticed that there seemed to be a change in management and not for the better. The service was terrible and the food was mediocre at best. I was greeted by hostess Kristine who seemed to be a bit ingratiating with other guests and she appeared very short with us when we asked her a simple question. When we approached her asking when we would be seated she appeared to be very flustered and didn't seem to have a handle on things. We finally were seated at a nice table and our server Jackie took an inordinate amount of time to ask for our drink order for which we waited 15 minutes. She never came back to our table, however I did see Jackie in the lobby area when I went to the restroom where I overheard her gossiping with another server about how miserable she was working at Faranda's. I overheard her say how disorganized things have become lately. I must say Faranda's was a well run establishment in the beginning and now it seems to have gone to the dogs. I hope they get their act together because the town needs a nice banquet facility. read more

I had my wedding reception at Faranda's this past weekend. And I had anticipated not saying anything at all about them as I didn't have kind words. However, by them keeping my lousy deposit -- I'm putting my thoughts on the web. The food was not good. We paid a high price per person for some very slim pieces of ham, cold twice baked potatoes and awful vegetables. In a nutshell, I felt I was sold a bill of goods (at an extremely high price) and what I got -- I was disappointed in. I really wanted to like this place as Kathe was helpful at the start. She made us several promises. They asked me how long the party was to be -- I guessed at a time (not knowing how long guests would like to stay). Kathe made me feel so at ease stating --don't worry -- we won't kick you out. Feel free to stay as long as you want. Yeah that wasn't the case. We were kicked out by 950 pm. My guests had just started enjoying themselves and then we were told the bar was closing and the party is done. Let me tell you -- my room was beautiful. Not by their doing, but by my efforts and my family efforts. I was lectured several times by Bill the owner stating that if he saw anyone out of line -- he would personally kick them out. Also lecturing me on decorating and that he would charge me for painting or anything done to his boring room by any decorations I would hang. We were extremely careful with his room and no damage done. I paid the small deposit. I was called two days after my party and told we are keeping your deposit as we watched the video and there was liquid spilled on our laptop keyboard. I agreed to the damage as I knew someone had spilled something there. I do know that the damage they said was done did not cost my entire deposit, but at this point I would not like to see any of the Faranda's staff again. And please don't pay the extra $150 to have a bar in your room. You are better off going out to the lobby to their own bar as our bar in our room didn't have much of a selection. Every time we wanted drinks, our bartender had to run to the main bar to get us drinks. It was just a crappy set up. I would say consider Faranda's if you have a small event, if you want mediocre food and shabby service. And don't upset the owner or you will pay more. Myself nor anyone in my family will use Faranda's nor eat at the Lincoln Inn ever again! read more

Horrible experiance. We were told when we first booked that we could get in the night before our wedding to set up. When we went back in to do another look we were told that we could not come in the night before as told origionally by an employee who no longer works there. They stated that we could book the night before but they had to talk to Bill first about what we were told from his employee origionally. After months of waiting and me calling them for updates and always getting some BS excuse from Shannon as to why they dont have the answer they went and booked another gig the night before without contacting us if we wanted to book so we can set up for our wedding. They did NOT hold up their end and they run their company horribly. I would NOT recomment this place to anyone unless you want to be screwed out of your deposit! read more

Let me start out by saying the kitchen produces fabulous food. With that being said, the owner has no clue what he is doing. I saw him tell underage employees to serve champagne, and he yells at his employees in front of customers. It's a shame because that place has potential. read more
