Making a quick, pop in visit to Dekalb to see family and it just so happens to be Sunday - The BEST day of the week to go to The Junction!! I'm not sure I've ever visited this town when it wasn't Sunday....because of this soup. It just hits the stomach and soul right. The soup is so creamy and full of chickeney goodness. The rice is perfectly cooked everytime and never too mushy. Each spoonful you take has the perfect ratio of chicken and rice and it's not overwhelmed by any vegetables. I also had a patty melt and fries. Super tasty. And those pickles on the side!! The absolute best. I love this diner so much and always puts the cherry on top of my visit

A few college and high school buddies and I decided it was time to have some breakfast at the Junction Eating Place in DeKalb. I've never been there, but they have. We got there before the crowd on a Friday morning. What a pleasant surprise, this place was great. I don't normally go for a skillet, but this was fantastic. I went for the Western Skillet that had diced ham, onions, tomatoes, green and jalapeño peppers, along with two eggs over easy, all over hashbrowns. It came with a side of pancakes, which were melt in your mouth good, and Coffee. I strongly suggest that you go for one of those. Our server was absolutely fantastic. KELLY was so on top of things and attentive to all of our needs, I would always suggest that you ask for her. I love the ambience. It's old-school with a little train that goes around up on top of one of the rooms. They have a diner style counter if you decide to sit that way, but we decided to have a wonderful meal sitting down and relaxing while going through fun stories. If you've never been there, I would suggest that if you're in DeKalb, you must stop for breakfast. Looking at their menu, they have all kinds of wonderful things. They've got appetizers and soups, sandwich, platters and wraps, all kinds of side, things, and specialties that look fabulous. Whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, this is definitely a place you need to go. I really enjoyed the food. It was wonderful and will be back soon.

Diner breakfast done right!!! The staff is so friendly and sat us (large group of 10+) immediately! Menu is huge with an all day breakfast plus other entrees and fun diner food! We went for a late dinner and got served bread and drinks ASAP. Everyone ordered different things but all of it was the hearty goodness you want and need from a place like this! I got the veggie skillet bowl which came with a base of hash browns, various veggies sautéed, 2 eggs (any style) and lots of cheese! Choice of toast or pancakes too! The pancakes are HUGE!!! Even the side pancakes overflow the plate! Reminded me so much of the little diner I went to with my grandpa growing up. Only 4/5 because I'm the stingy one who really is picky about how my food is prepped, and could have felt a little fresher for my tasting when it came to veg in skillet) Side note: AMAZING ice-cream sundae menu, we didn't get one but would def want to try!

My family sat here for over 30 minutes and we didn't even get our drink order. We told the staff on the way out and they could care less.

Ask the Community - The Junction Eating Place

Do they have outdoor seating?

No, I have not seen any outdoor eating. And even if there were, you probably wouldn't enjoy sitting outside in what is a pretty grungy strip mall. But the restaurant is decent, however.

They have music playing in the background. The room is nice and cold and a great break from the hot outside weather. You may have to bring a sweater if you don't like it too cold. It is a very clean, comfortable, and relaxing atmosphere. Our waitress was really sweet and helped me pick out one of the simple sandwiches. There are lots of food items and love that they have fresh baked cookies too. My husband ordered the Corned Beef Hash with eggs over easy. Pancakes without powdered sugar and sugar free syrup. I ordered the simple sandwich - Turkey Everything was delicious If your in the area, come and give this restaurant a try, you won't be disappointed.

We started with two cups of cream of chicken rice soup and was surprised that this bakery didn't offer rolls with the soup, so I chose to use the toast from the meal I ordered. It worked perfectly. I will add that soup was served barely lukewarm. Not ideal, but we ate it. Next, we ordered a Tuna Melt with fries and a Lincoln Inn Special. We both agreed the food was good. Our server was very nice. She was attentive and assisted when asked. We also ordered the Strawberry Crepes to go. But we couldn't stop there, lol. While at the register, there were cinnamon rolls and pecan rolls, so we grabbed one of each. We enjoyed those a little later while we waited for our child who was at the camp. Both were delicious! I think it's great how the photos of many years are going across the walls and that they support the local college and their sports. Such a nice touch. There was a gentleman who came over and introduced himself and asked if I knew anyone in the photos. I do not recall his name. He was kind and told me about the photos and about how he created one in particular which was rather impressive.

Has a pretty large amount of basic and gourmet toppings to choose from. The prices are higher than the crap chains but it's much better tasting. Always busy. It's a pretty good sign that people like to come here. This is located pretty close to NIU so obviously the name is pretty easy to understand for even the thickest skulled of frat boys and other college students. A few words to get their attention. Have to speak the language of the locals. A crap ton of local beers. It's about $8 a pint. Splurge a bit more for some finely aged whiskey. It's about $18 for a medium pizza. That's kind of a lot but this isn't mass produced chain pizza though. Also you can get it with vegan cheese. This melts like the real stuff. We got one of the Sergeant Pepper pizzas New York style. Filling. This comes with arugula, black olives, cherry tomatoes, green peppers, mozzarella but we got the vegan substitute, mushrooms, and onions. Big enough for a couple. They have even bigger ones that are expensive but are good for parties. Crazy place for tons of good drinking and eating. It's located on West State Street. There's good options for meat eaters as well as vegans and vegetarians.
