If you thought that you might be able to get better quality meat at a "Meat Market," you'd be wrong. They advertise their USDA Choice meats. Apparently, most people don't know that USDA Choice is the same as what is available at just about any supermarket. If you are looking for grass-fed beef or even organic beef, maybe you can find it but I didn't see any. The labeling also needs help. I wanted some salmon, but all their sign said was "salmon." No Coho, Atlantic, or Steelhead, just "salmon." No farm-raised or wild-caught, just "salmon". when I asked that pretty basic question the counterman said that he didn't know, and had to go to the back & ask someone whose response was "farm-raised from Chile". This place is good for one thing: If you are having a BBQ or a Super Bowl party and you want a quick & easy one-stop shop instead of running around a grocery store trying to find everything you need. It's relatively very small and You can find lots of beer, liquor, BBQ sauce, and even a bit of fresh produce & baked goods all within about a half dozen short aisles. This place is brand spankin' new and I'm so excited to see Fareway come to the neighborhood! And mmmmmm it smells like yummy smoked meat (assuming you are a carnivore, but I don't drink coffee and can admit a cup of brew smells good). Lots of additional varieties for things that you wont find other places and they have fresh and shelf stable staples available as well. Given food prices are a bit out of wack all over right now it was hard to judge value. Come check it out and make a decision for yourself. read more

Fairway beaverdale What can I say about fairway, I like them. I shop at several different ones. This one in beaverdale is advertised as a meat market. It's a lot smaller but it's much more than a meat market. As always it's about expectations and most places are still under staffed. it's really nice addition to the beaverdale neighborhood. One thing I always look for in a grocery store is this it clean? the store was very clean. The other thing is the staff, the staff were very friendly and helpful. It has a good selection of beer wine and grocery items that you could get most anything that you needed. It's like a large convenience store. It does have some vegetables and fruit but not really a huge selection. They're meat area is fairly large but they don't have some of the things that the larger fairway would have. They also have some individually prepped items which are good for a senior that may want to not have to prepare everything. Focus of the pre prepared items is mostly barbecue. I've had both the pulled pork and the brisket and they're both good I've had some of the ribs and they're okay. I really enjoyed the side of beans that they had it was almost enough just to have the beans with the amount of meat they had in them I'm guessing extra brisket. There are also sandwiches available that they'll make with your choice of bread. They also have a huge selection of barbecue rub sauces and other things for you to make your own barbecue with. They also have a fairly large selection of seafood which should appeal to some people who aren't really into meat.. Of course they carry on The fairway tradition of high quality steaks and pork You can also get soup bones if you want to make some soup. And they have the root vegetables available if you were putting some kind of Stew or soup together. They were working on making sure everything looked well stocked and orderly. The vegetables seem to be plentiful but just remember you're not going to have the variety that you would hit a regular store but the quality was good. I had to think about this one for a few day's. It for sure is not what I expected, even after visiting the location in Kansas City last year. It's basically a small version of the same ol same ol Fareway with a limited choice of some premium cuts and Meats, some of them Frozen. It is a nicely done store for sure. I would have liked to have seen some upgraded items throughout and a decent variety of premium and heritage cuts and meats that Des Moines deserves. It's not that and I think a real missed opportunity. Oh, it's 2022 now and not being open on Sunday? Quaint it is not. The Wine? The beer, okay the beer selection gets a 6.3 and that barely squeaks it by with a three stars. Whole Foods and Gateway are closer and much more what we thought this was going to be. read more

I originally anticipated a heavy focus on meat and a few odds and ends to complete a meal. This store turned out to offer much more than that and is essentially a mini-Fareway, featuring meat, produce, dairy, bakery items, etc. It does feel more expensive than a traditional Fareway store, but when I've compared the pricing, I've found it to be the exact same. The difference is they stock a limited variety of brands and sizes, which is to be expected with the size of the store. Unfortunately they stock little to no store brands or bargain brands, which usually results in me spending more than I would if I had the same variety as a traditional Fareway. That said, it's a convenient option close to home when I need a few quick things, and much cleaner than the nearby grocery options. Great addition to the neighborhood. read more

The meat case is huge and well stocked with beef, pork, chicken, and seafood. Plenty of staff, so the wait time is minimal. They have cooked BBQ entrees and sides, if you want to grab lunch and eat it at outside tables with umbrellas. I think the store is presenting as a meat market, but it has a large area for wine, beer, and other spirits. There's a limited amount of fresh produce, canned goods, and frozen foods, too. Kudos to Fareway for their new neighborhood market. read more
