Genuinely some of the best sandwiches we have ever had. When I hear someone has good sandwiches and they are a farm style store I'll admit I normally assume it'll be a decently fresh sandwich but rather basic and plain. That was far from the case let me say the flavor on the two sandwiches my wife and I got here were phenomenal. We sat by a window and got to just relax as the river ran beside the property which just added to the overall aesthetic of the place. And the service was great - friendly and quick! I need to give the biggest shout out to the staff at Farm Basket! My husband has to use a power wheelchair, which requires a lot of accommodations. The ladies were so kind to give me a tour when we were considering coming there for lunch, and offered a special entrance for him. We made plans and he was so excited to be able to go meet friends. Don't think this special place is off-limits if you need ADA accommodations, the staff are super gracious. read more

Two friends and I went here for lunch today to celebrate two birthdays. I love spring days on the patio along the gurgling creek. Food here is very fresh and well prepared. I enjoyed one of their chef specials. It was called the Spring Fling . I chose the turkey version and loved the added bacon, pesto and the additional potato chips that gave a great crunch! I discovered this place when I was in college at LC. It's a great place to escape and study or meet friends. Theres seating down by the water and inside depending on weather. Whenever we are in Lynchburg, I love to come here. The food is absolutely outstanding. I wish I had taken some pictures. The chicken salad croissant sandwich box lunch is probably my favorite item. My husband LOVES the smoked turkey and Brie sandwich. He had three during our visit this past week. My two kids (3,1) devoured the chicken salad sandwich. And my toddler is picky so it was a huge win. I also had the pear and walnut salad which I was skeptical of but was absolutely delicious. All the flavors worked so well together. We were there Liberty graduation weekend so I think a couple members of the staff were maybe either overstimulated or just didn't want to be there. No one was rude or anything. Majority of staff was super friendly and nice. The gift shop has lots of cute items that we love to look at but are a little too pricey to buy. Such a cute lunch and shopping spot! We ordered sandwiches and sat upstairs with a view of the beautiful river. The food was delicious and staff was very friendly. We tried the smoked Turkey and Brie baguette which was more sweet than savory with great flavor. However the sandwich we order every visit is the yummy smoked Turkey and Swiss sandwich. We also ordered chips, drink and of course we can't forget a delicious apple dapple cake for dessert. Some of the furniture upstairs and artwork on the walls was for sale so be sure to shop there as well. We also loved shopping in the 4 rooms on the main level after we had lunch. This is a great place to find a nice local food or beverage gift or some decor/dishes for your home. It would be so romantic to visit in the summer for a picnic by the river out back. This is a place i love to go to when i need a good view and some light food! Their ingredients are always fresh, just like the views as this place is tucked away in a woodsy area of town right on a creek. They have a store attached where you can purchase a number of different goods/gifts for the family as well! I love to get the pimento cheese and cucumber sandwich. They've got a great flavor on the pimento cheese that isn't too bitey but still gives you that classic pimento flavor. The addition of the cucumber and the rye bread makes it a simple and complex sandwich that I've come to crave. Their menu is made up of mostly sandwiches, but they also have salads, soups, and different seasonal offerings which makes this a spot to come year round! It's a hidden gem in LYH for me, and if you love fresh ingredients, light fair, and airy aesthetics, you'll love this place! read more

I've been to the Farm Basket three times in the past couple of years. I went again this weekend, and was surprised to see that the store and cafe looked almost exactly the same. For most places, this type of consistency is a good thing. The food from the cafe is excellent, and the boutique is carefully curated. However, the service and bug problem is atrocious. I will speak first to the lovely items in the boutique. Each time I have come, I have admired the choices in the shop. Everything is colorful and of superior quality. However, the clerks watch you like a hawk and come across more like security guards. You end up getting the impression they are deciding instantly whether or not you have enough money to be worth their time. When I came a few years ago, my mother-in-law (MIL) bought a purse as well as some kitchen decor, and the demeanor of the shop keeper was instantly more pleasant. Perhaps install security cameras instead? I know you take pride in your shop, but the customer service is very uncomfortable. The cafe has absolutely tasty sandwiches, soups, and desserts. There has consistently been a long wait for food. We wait in line on average 15-20 minutes to order, and the food can take anywhere from 20-40 minutes to be served. We are all okay with that because it is just THAT tasty. It is overpriced in a sense, but it can be chalked up to fresher/better ingredients and matches the pricing in the store. This last weekend was sadly perhaps my last visit. Previous visits have shown that the owners don't seem to care remotely that there is an abnormal amount of wasps flying around in the cafe near the roof, bees inside, and the occasional flies. I have been to many cafe's, but not ones that welcome bees and wasps at an indoor seating area. Please note that I am saying it has been this way for years. This visit and last, I noticed people were avoiding sitting in the upstairs area which is closest to all of the wasps. We planned to sit outside to eat as it was a beautiful day, and planned to buy our favorite picks from the store after. While waiting in line to order food, a bee stung me. I don't know when it landed on me, so I guess my shifting in line freaked it out or something. The staff saw what happened but stayed silent, and in a completely lackadaisical manner asked for our order. Ignoring the fact that I had been stung. Seriously? I can handle being stung by a bee, but we have seen more empathy and kindness from customer service at fast food restaurants - especially considering that we had spent about $75 in food alone. Thank God I'm not anaphylactic. This is disappointing, and I don't feel like getting stung by bees, wasps, or any other sort of thing in order to get delicious food. I'm glad you are supporting wildlife, but letting it live and thrive inside your cafe is weird and unusual. We ate in our cars instead and thankfully enjoyed walking on the Blackwater Creek trail which saved the day. read more

I order from here quite frequently for work luncheons of between 5-12 people. Something happened and I somehow handed out an older version of their menu for people to look at and make their lunch choices with. Someone chose a salad with the option to add Italian meats to their salad. This is not an option on the updated menu. They have such wonderful customer service here that they acquired the Italian meats for the salad so that the person could have the salad they wanted even though it was no longer on their menu! To me, that's going the extra mile for great customer service! On top of all that I've never had a single problem with an order. The food is always ready on time and tastes delicious! Surrounded by flowers and plants that they grow themselves (which can be purchased) and set along a small river, you will feel relaxed from the very start. Peruse the store, find natural products and wonderful items for your home. Try the pimento cheese and cucumber sandwich. Ask for rye bread instead of white and be prepared to melt. I visit once a week just for that experience alone. Wonderful side items that I always choose are the potato salad and an Apple Dapple for dessert. Overall, Farm Basket lives up to it's 3.5 star ranking. Beautiful setting and great seating inside and outside. We sat on the deck and watched the flowing river beneath us. Also found some great bargains in the shop. I had the turkey and brie on a croissant with sliced peaches and blueberry jam, but there was a hair in my sandwich and that's why I'm not giving them four stars. For a random place that seemed in a random location... it was a very good lunch! The thing I liked the most here was its seating area. They had some rustic but homey tables set up, and sitting there reminded me of sitting at my own dinner table. We had a view through a huge window of the back.. I mean it's just trees lol but it is nice with the great amount of natural lighting. It just adds to the homey feel. There were plenty of side seating inside, an upstairs seating area, as well as shaded tables outside. The thing that I would change or maybe take off a star for is for how hard it was to find the entrance. Farm Basket has a store associated as well as some other small separated houses. I accidentally walked into someone's office while I was looking for this cafe. Then I confusedly asked a guy sitting outside who directed us vaguely around the corner, and there are still no signs leading to food. Eventually we made our way into the store and was led to the cafe. Food itself was fine, I had a roast beef sandwich which had some American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, the usual, with a pickle on the side and a dessert included in the lunch box deal. I had a brownie which was moist and so filling it could've been my actual meal. Anyway, I recommend! read more

Ordered ham biscuits for Monday December 28th as this was a request in my mother's will for after the church service Monday. Francis told me they would be ready at 10:00 am on the 28th. Arrived early and waited until 10:00. When I went to the door there was a note stating they had extended the days of closure to include the 28th and 29th. I was not contacted regarding their closure. Three days later Francis called me to tell me they had closed due to an employee testing positive for COVID. I told Francis the reason for my order and she just said that she was sorry that she forgot to call regarding canceling my order. Then she said she would just put the ham biscuits out in the market for sale. Terrible business practice. I will miss visiting this establishment but I will not return. read more

This wonderful and quaint cafe with a beautiful location along a creek can be hard to find. This place is locally owned and operated with a cafe in the back of a gift shop. I understand that The Farm Basket started out as a roadside fruit stand that has grown into the magnificent store that it is today. Each time I visit, I just have to look around every corner to see what is there that i might find. This time I had the smoked turkey and brie cheese on a french baguette with a fig jam. A hidden treasure, found tucked away in the woods, is my favorite place in the Lynchburg area. Farm Basket is home to a variety of things, ranging from clothing to food to fresh, local produce, to house ware. It's a great spot when you want to get away, but has almost anything you'd want. There is outside seating, inside seating, as well as picnic tables beside the river that flows behind the shop. Often times I find myself ending up at Farm Basket when needing a break from campus, or needing a new setting to work at. I'll buy a warm coffee (or iced depending on the weather) and a salad, grab a good book, and sit at a picnic table, listening to the lull of the river. Sound peaceful? Charming place for lunch about an hour from Roanoke where we live. It is nestled beside a small stream with indoor and outdoor seating. We had 5 people in our party all of whom who ordered the box lunch which included a generous sized sandwich, a side and a dessert. I had the pimento/cucumber.. yum! Someone else had the turkey special and there were raves for the cucumber sandwich. Most of us had potato salad which was just ok, kind of bland and a very small portion. Unlimited iced tea.. tasty! Before jumping on the Blue Ridge Parkway I stopped by Farm Basket for a sandwich. The cafe is located in the back of the gift shop and well worth a visit. Place your order at the counter and head off to a table inside or on the patio overlooking a small stream. I tried the Tuscan BLT (rustic bread, sun dried tomatoes, spinach, goat cheese) it was fantastic. The service was friendly and attentive - I look forward to visiting Farm Basket again. read more

Farm Basket is a super cute, well put together gifts and gardening store plus a delicious cafe. It's a great place to buy presents for your mother, grandmother, sister, or wife. Plenty of things for the garden and tons of premade sauces and dips and pastas to take home and cook up! They also have a decent selection of wines and craft beers to choose from as well as cookbooks bursting with awesome recipes. The back has a gorgeous deck/patio with outdoor seating as well as picnic tables near a little stream. Pretty quaint little place I'd say. As for the food, I'm a sucker for one thing they have and I can't help but order it every time I go: Pimiento cheese sandwich on marble rye with cucumber, tomato, lettuce, and a homemade mayo sauce to top it off. Absolutely scrumptious. I would recommend it to anyone from my best friend to my worst enemy. If you end up in Lynchburg, you must try this sandwich. You can even buy the pimiento cheese from them! I love the Farm Basket for several reasons. It's an adorable place right by the creek made up of a home shop (including different and locally made decorations, home decor, kitchen essentials, bath and body products) a garden shop, a Vera Bradley collection and a cafe in the back. This is a great place to buy gifts! The home & garden store has medium to expensive items, but they are good-quality gifts that you probably won't find anywhere else. They also sell jewelry and things that are made nearby or by a local vendor. I've bought several bridesmaid presents, Christmas and birthday presents here. The staff does a GREAT job gift-wrapping presents..and it's free! They also sell flowers, herbs and fruits in season outside of the shops. The newest addition is Pinklady, which features Lily Pulitzer products. They have great things, but Pulitzer is expensive. Now to my favorite part: The Cafe. The cafe serves a sandwiches, salads, a soup of the day and desserts. I like the food because it's made with fresh, local ingredients. The soups change every week, depending on what's in season. My favorite sandwich is the pimento cheese on marble rye with lettuce and tomatoes. I have never been a fan of pimento cheese, and now I'm obsessed! It's not too strong or salty, and with cucumbers ( which you can get on the sandwich,) it has that extra fresh crunch. I also like the smoked turkey & brie on french baguette with fig jam and mesclun. It's sweet and filling. I also recommend the ham biscuits with VA country ham. The salads are also fresh, but nothing to brag about. Sometimes I wish they were a little bigger. For dessert I recommend the freshly baked cookies and brownies...they are soft and amazing. I wouldn't go for the previously made cakes and pies that they have in a fridge to the side. These aren't as fresh, and I haven't had the best of luck with them. When in season, their peach shake is seriously AMAZING. They make it with locally grown peaches and ice cream. You must try it if they're making them. My suggestion is to order the boxed lunch (about $9,) which includes a choice of sandwich, side and dessert. You can also do half salad and half sandwich. By the cafe, they also sell specialty foods like salsa, marinades, chocolates, candy, seasonings, condiments and a lot more. They also have already-made gift baskets, wine and beer. What a cute place! It is much more of a "girly spot" but the food was very good. The four of us each got lunch baskets with sandwiches, a side, and a dessert. All of our sandwiches (ham biscuits, chicken salad, turkey, and roast beef) were great. The sides were not great. I think they spilled the tarragon (or some spice/herb) in the pasta salad. My dad did not love the cole slaw, but my wife liked the frozen fruit salad. Desserts were all good - Apple Dapple cake, double chocolate cake, chocolate brownie, and cookies. It is a little pricey for a simple lunch basket with no drink, but it was a great spot for a vacation visit. Great view to the creek.
