Really had an interesting experience at Yellow Submarine. They are under new management with a significantly reduced menu. I really loved their chicken salad sandwich! But it is no longer available. So with some concern, I ordered the Italian, toasted and fully dressed. Again, to be honest, it did look that great. Then I took a bite ... it was excellent. I have nothing but good things to say. I actually went back and had three sandwiches in a week. What was really good, was the team offered to make any sub from their previous menu. Overall, very positive experience. read more

Visited here on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch and was very impressed! I hardly knew it was there on Old Forest Rd because it's set back a bit with limited signage, but I'm glad I found it. My husband and I were the only ones there when we went. The waitress who took care of us was the sweetest girl and provided excellent and caring service. I loved the atmosphere and the great mix of music they play (old and new pop). I was so excited to see they do bar trivia, so I'm looking forward to come back for that. The tater tots and sweet potato fries were amazing (well seasoned/salted and sufficiently crispy). I loved the sandwich I got. It was the best hoagie/sub/sandwich I've had in Lynchburg! They stock it with plenty of cheese and allowed the option to add whatever veggies you want as well. My only complaint would be that the sandwich roll was a bit too crumbly (over toasted). They also have outdoor seating that I can tell must be a hit during the summer months. I think this will become a favorite of my family. I highly recommend this place! read more

Just had a great experience at Yellow Sub! Very clean restaurant, great food, excellent service! I had the philly cheesesteak and my husband had the chicken philly. Served with chips and pickle and it was yummy! The sandwich rolls were perfect! Our server, Alyssa, had a great personality, was very accommodating and she made recommendations we appreciated. We all live in a yellow submarine! A yellow submarine! A yellow submarine! The subs were fittingly named after submarines. The Red October was piled high with corned beef, pastrami, and swiss cheese. No frills like fancy avocados or dressings, there was a little too much lettuce but plenty of meat compared to subs at the chain sandwich shops. Subs can be hot or cold. Almost all the subs were $4.70 for 8" and $6.95 for 12". When my 12" came out, it was closer to 16" - don't we all wish for big surprises like that? Being a dainty little flower, I couldn't handle it all at once, and after a day in the fridge, the leftover half sub wasn't soggy or limp the next day. The 99-cent Sweet Tea will require you to get an insulin shot before taking shore leave. read more

There are times in your life when you just need a deli sandwich and let me tell you this is the place. Came in for lunch a little before noon and it wasn't very busy but the service was quick. Mostly customers were walking in picking up lunch orders rather than dining in. It was a comfortable setting with sports paraphernalia from the local sports teams hanging and a few TVs on in the background. Now to the important part - the sandwich: Reuben, the side: chips, and a pickle on the side. The Reuben was swiftly prepare. From the corned beef to the Russian dressing it was just right. The food is really good, but they don't answer phone when you call and constantly have private parties that book up the whole place, which is pretty bad to begin with but they don't even do take out when there's a private party. You pretty much to be friends with the owner to get food. It's sad, it's used to be a weekly stop. read more

A friend of mine had an invasive procedure done yesterday which he was extremely nervous about and he couldn't eat for 24 hours. So, since we go to The Yellow Submarine all the time, I took him to a late lunch. He still hadn't eaten since the procedure and I could tell he wasn't feeling well. I ordered and he wanted to wait. In the middle of me eating my sandwich he got sick at the table (we were outside on the porch and no one else was out there). I asked him if he had been feeling sick and he said,"No, I don't know what happened." I told him to go to the bathroom but he got sick again at the screen door entrance. Because we go here once or twice a week, I am pretty familiar with the staff so I called to our waitress and asked her how I could help clean up. She said,"No problem! We have a hose and we'll take care of it," which they did. Then the owner, who is not only a b**** but apparently also a coward, came out and stood at the restaurant entrance and said loudly,"DON'T clean that up. You let THEM clean it up. That's disgusting!" Then she went back under her rock. So my question is, how did she know my company wasn't a chemo patient, sick from therapy? What if my child got sick? And also, does it matter? What kind of unprofessional piece of s*** does that? It's the middle of the day, we come here all the time, no one is drunk or acting inappropriately, and we never cause any problems. WOW--what a long way from Georgia and Robert or for that matter, any business owner who treats people decently. DISGUSTING. What a shame--great waitresses and good food and beer on tap but our group of friends will NEVER be back. Oh and by the way--his procedure was to check for cancer since he's had several scares with it the last several years. He never calls me but he did last night, looking for encouragement and compassion. It's really amazing how one act of cruelty or kindness can make all the difference in someone's life. read more

Its very important to me to find a go-to sammich shop for quick and nutritious, luscious lunches. This is number 1 on the list if you're on that side (west) of town. They have adequate prices, seem cleaner than any Subway (Isn't everybody?) I've seen, and carry that mom and pop charm that you want to see in your local eateries. Do pay attention though because most people miss it from Old Forest Rd. Before I start this review I will admit that I am somewhat disillusioned with Lynchburg dinning. Especially the sandwich scene. Mainly stemming from a love of New York sandwiches that in all honesty sets the bar pretty damn high. However, factoring that out of the equation I came here with an open mind. First up is the location. Its an off the beaten path locals only joint where you have to know where it's at to find. That scores points in my counter-establishment heart. On the inside the dinning room is large with plenty of room to find a seat. The counter area had a look vaguely resembling a typical college-dive-restaurant, but it works and was clean. When I came here it was with one sandwich on mind: the classic no frills Italian hero (.:sigh:. I have to leave the New York vernacular up north). When it came out the biggest gripe I had was the bread. It tasted and felt like a hotdog bun it the shape of a roll. As bread is one of the major components of a good sandwich it's important that it's fresh and the texture is just right -a crunchy crust on it with soft interior. Sadly Yellow Sun lacked this. The meat was good if not Boar's Head quality (ham, genoa salami, and cappicola). You also have to specify which toppings when ordering (mayo, mustard) or it comes plain. For the price though it wasn't a bad deal ~ $7 for a "12 which explains the apparent subpar ingredients. At any rate check it out, explore the large menu, and enjoy the food adventure. read more

AMAZING food for what it is. Classic and fresh. The standard crinkle cut fries can go, but that is just my opinion. The sandwich was filling enough on its own, anyway. For starters, the restaurant is seat yourself (at least at certain hours) and there was absolutely no indication of that. A simple sign would be GREAT - we came at a very slow time, and because there was no sign indicating what to do, we just stood there and wondered if they closed early. A waitress came out to help, but because she had to rush to help us, her mouth was full of food, even while talking to us... And that was our first impression. Gross. Additionally, we ordered wings from the appetizer menu and they came after our sandwiches. No compensation, heads up, or explanation. Just a bummer. Lastly, even though our table had been cleaned (the whole place was very clean) we had only ONE napkin at our table. Wings and sandwiches need a lot more than that... No wet wipes either. They were so slow when we got there, too, that it couldn't be passed off as a dinner rush mishap. These are very easy ways to make a much better impression for guests. I am young, and not rooted here, so I will keep coming back for the GREAT food for the short period that I live here. I see these few errors as something that would really turn off a permanent local who has the money/social circle to keep this place a Lynchburg favorite forever. read more

Great to see it remodeled. I thought it was alright previously, but definitely much better now. They have a much cleaner inside, a place that is welcoming, great outside, and some bar choices. I was, however, gravely disheartened when they declined old coupons. Why keep the same location and name, but decline old coupons for the same location and name. I didn't realize they were under new management, as I thought they just remodeled. I think the way this was handled was poorly, and changed my review from 4-5 for this category restaurant, to a 3. Disappointed with what I saw, but glad to see everything else. read more

This is my story. I'm part of the band boosters for Frank W. Cox high school in Virginia Beach. We were at a high school band competition at Liberty University on Nov 5, 2016. I called 6 days before to place an order for 75 subs for our kids. The managers, Winter and Kristen, could not have been more helpful. Their customer service went way way above "normal"! Thru several phone calls, Winter helped me with my order and delivered it to the university parking lot to our buses - on time - with all the dressings, fixings, and paper products we needed. Both myself and my wife enjoy the subs here. The chips are not great as they are buying Wise rather than Lays or Utz, and the fountain drinks are subpar. Other than the two aforementioned complaints, I have always had a good experience at Yellow Sub. The dining room is large, and also has some covered outdoor seating. read more

The food is awful. Tried it twice to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Equally terrible both times.

Have had good experiences in the past, but today was awful! We were a table of five on our lunch break. The server was clearly new: not familiar with the menu, tried to leave without taking everybody's order, etc., but he was young and nice enough, so no problem. Wrong. He never came to our table again. A half hour later, we had no food and people who hadn't even come in to the restaurant until after we had ordered were getting theirs. When we inquired, we were told that the nachos one of us had ordered was holding everything up, but that our food would be out soon. About five minutes later said nachos arrived, but no other food. We were told the rest would be right out, but then they had to ask what else we ordered. Ten minutes later, still no more food and when we asked we were told told by our new waiter, "I think they are making it now." We asked to see a manager or whoever was in charge. No one ever came. In the end it was well over 45 minutes before we got all our food and unsurprisingly, it came out wrong. Now clearly the new server lost/mis-entered our order. If they had just admitted that and apologized that would have been one thing, everybody's new at their job sometime and mistakes happen, but we got neither the truth nor an apology, just a bill. read more
