This was our second visit to this hidden gem in just five weeks. We live in New Jersey and vacation at Smith Mountain Lake, and we've made this restaurant a special stop whenever we travel through the area. The food and service are outstanding. Brian was our server both times, and he even remembered what we ordered on our previous visit--a level of hospitality that's hard to find. I had the salmon, which was cooked perfectly, and my wife happily ordered the crab cakes again because they were just as delicious as she remembered. P.S. Wished we lived closer to this place and was not just visiting for the weekend! Everything about this place from the ambience, waitstaff, and food was perfection! Our waitress, I believe her name was Emily, was so sweet and very helpful when it came to deciding what to order. She was very personable, and we chatted with her about all kinds of things whenever she'd come by the table. This place had comfortable booths, and a lovely bar. They have a great happy hour menu, which we ordered from. Do not miss the truffle popcorn. I am still dreaming of this! Truffle oil and parmesan cheese on perfectly popped and salted popcorn. We also had the hot honey and Parmesan chicken wings which were crisp and delicious, and a harvest salad. So good. We would be here all the time if we lived close. I'll spare you the suspense... this was THE best meal I had while in Lynchburg. I started with glass of the Gran Familia Rioja tempranillo. Slighly tart and so juicy. I need to add this bottle to my home bar ASAP. The brussels sprouts were perfectly cooked: nice and crunchy with delightfully crispy skin, and drizzled with a sweet orange glaze. I sprinkled a little bit of salt on top, and the sweet/salty combination just took it over the top! The gnocchi was chewy and cheesy and oh-so good. Loved it! The smoked, dry rubbed wings were ever so slightly crispy on the outside, and perfectly cooked on the inside. I would have liked to taste a little more of that smoke flavor, but they were still good. The flourless chocolate torte... Unbelievable. Rich, but not heavy or overbearing. The chocolate was delightfully dark but not bitter. Just when I thought my meal couldn't get any better... This dessert was the perfect conclusion to an already divine dining experience. If "death by chocolate" tastes like this, well then I'm all ready to go. As delicious as the food was, the staff was even better. They were so welcoming-- smiles and all-- from the second I stepped in. They seemed genuinely happy to see me and I immediately felt comfortable. Emily was my server and in addition to being an absolute delight, she allowed me to enjoy my incredible meal in peace without checking in incessantly. Of everything I enjoyed about this dining experience, I think I enjoyed that most of all. Listen, I don't care what you're doing or what's on your agenda... We stopped by to enjoy their happy hour. I ordered a cosmopolitan and my husband ordered a manhattan. You can't beat the $6.50 price! Brian did a great job making drinks! We found all of the staff to be really friendly and welcoming. We tried the truffle popcorn which is part of happy hour and it was amazing! Brian and the other staff gave us some great recommendations of what to do in Lynchburg and we made dinner reservations based on their suggestion and they were spot on! This restaurant is an enigma to me. You can go there one day and get a really great meal, and then go there the next day and the food is terrible or mediocre. There is no consistency in the recipes from one visit to the next. I know that Lynchburg has a reputation of having having a lot of problems with restaurant help. I'm not sure why that is, maybe people don't tip in Lynchburg, maybe it's a management problem, I'm just not sure why the restaurants struggle so much in Lynchburg. This little restaurant has a nice ambience, the people are really friendly, it's located on a street that has seen a revival, but it is not consistent and this is something they need to work on. read more

Tonight was my second visit to Bentley's, and the experience was great. Firstly, the service was wonderful, and the waitress was super attentive and friendly. On both visits, I've ordered the She Crab Soup to start, and on both visits, it was a perfect 5 Stars! The sherry they bring to the table to top it with just adds the perfect touch every time! Tonight, I had the smoked turkey breast melt, which came on a warm baguette topped with onion, lettuce, cheddar, and BBQ sauce and was served with fries. While my entree was good, the truffled mushroom risotto I had on my previous visit was better. I also was able to sample the blueberry crème brûlée, which was their limited-time dessert, and I honestly loved the blueberry flavor. read more

I had reservations for Father's Day with my family. We were seated quickly, but with no menus. The waitress (Cam) also mentioned she would be back with a high chair. After sitting for 15 minutes we got up and got our own menus and found where the high chairs were stored and brought one to our table ourselves. The waitress brought waters, but left for another ten minutes without asking for any other drink orders. When she returned, two people in my family ordered an alcoholic drink and both drinks were made incorrectly. This is fine, as that can happen. However, the waitress offered ZERO apologies and took away the drinks silently not saying ANYTHING. I asked for a Diet Coke at the same time as the alcoholic drinks were ordered, and I did not receive that for 20 minutes. When the drink orders were rectified, we placed our appetizer and food order. Two salads were brought out with minimal dressing. My daughter got her food first and we then asked about the appetizer and our waitress said "it will all come out together since it was ordered together." The rest of our food came five minutes later with the appetizer. The food was very good, I ordered the Half Chicken, my wife ordered the burger with fries, and my parents both ordered the shrimp pasta. Towards the end of our meal, my wife didn't finish her fries and I was eating them, where I found a VERY long hair in my mouth and in the fries. The waitress said she would take the fries off of our check, which we appreciated. When the check came, a 20% automatic gratuity was added, labeling us a party of six or more. Our party consisted of four adults, a 3 year old, and a baby in a high chair who doesn't eat food. My wife immediately spoke to both managers on duty and asked why it was added and if they counted the baby as a "person" towards the automatic gratuity. They seemed unsure, so my wife immediately pointed out the automatic gratuity amount wasn't an issue, as we would normally tip 20% anyway. But given all the issues, it was NOT warranted. We also learned from the manager Hannah (loved her) she was COMPLETELY unaware of any of these issues we told her. She told us that no manager approved the 20% automatic gratuity or removing the "hairy" fries from our check, which a manager approval is required. Hannah also apologized profusely and offered us free deserts, which we appreciated but did not take up on her offer. The waitress we had never apologized for any the issues we had, and we will not be returning because of the lack of service and issues that came up. read more

My mom , niece and I came here for a late lunch. I' loved that their lunch specials went to 4pm. This also overlapped with their happy hour. I was pleased! The restaurant was not crowded when we arrived. We were seated immediately by the waiter. Despite it not being busy , service was kind of slow to me. Other than this I have no other complaints. We all ordered something different. I ordered from the lunch menu - 5 dry rub smoked wings , fries and a drink included for $13. My mom had the chicken bites from the lunch menu as well and my niece ordered a corn dog and fries from the kids menu. Food portions were generous and the food was really good. Bentleys is decorated nicely and spacious, with a patio as well. There's a bar with a casual atmosphere. Their happy hour and lunch specials are definitely worth checking out! My friends and I came for happy hour on a Friday and had a great time! The patio is super cozy in the winter. The cocktails were $6.50 which is a steal and they were decent cocktails. We tried the margarita, Cosmo and bourbon manhattan. I'd choose the Cosmo over the Margarita if you're in between. The server was very nice and gave us space to just enjoy our drinks. The wings were delicious but I'm sad about the hot honey Parmesan, I was expecting a little spice but they were sweet. The dry rub and buffalo were better. read more

Went in for a Sunday lunch/brunch. We were greeted immediately and asked to sit anywhere we wanted. The seating setup was the same as it was when it was the previous restaurant. Big screen TV's were over the bar. We were given a regular menu as well as a brunch menu. I chose the Bentley Burger and my wife got the chicken wings and waffle. I was asked if I wanted my burger pink in the middle or well done. I chose pink and it came that way. Looked very pink but the juices were clear. Wow! Just about the best burger I've had in quite awhile. Excellent flavor! My wife really enjoy her chicken and waffles. read more

I have to admit I made Schweety take me here so I could be first to review as I've been anxiously awaiting the opening! On day 5 of opening, they are rolling out Happy Hour beverage specials with food specials to come in the near future! On this visit we only had a couple of draft beers and the fried oysters but the entire menu looks great. The oysters were fantastic! In search of the perfect burger we landed on Bentley's. We arrived late in Sunday night, it was very quiet, just a couple of tables watching the local football games, it was perfect for a quick dinner. We sat in the inside/outside area when you first enter, I really liked that it felt so private. Service was great, he came right over and was very friendly. We both ordered the burgers with Caesar salads, no up charge for the salad which is also a plus. For apps we got both the wings and potato pierogies. I love a good homemade savory pierogia and dessert was the only homemade option on the menu crème brûlée. The wings were excellent, a little spicy and crispy. The were cooked and prepared perfectly. The burgers were fantastic definitely one of the best I've had so far in Lynchburg. If I'm being really picky, the Caesar salad was attached dry and could use some homemade croutons or something but it was fine. The crème brûlée was creamy and the portion was nice, but it could've used more sugar on the top. This is me being extremely critical because overall the meal was solid. We will return! read more
