This is another local restaurant that I have frequented so many times that I can't remember. I have always bring people here as it is such a quaint and cute spot to die at. I love the ambience of the dining area. I have had their roasted chicken and many other dishes, but my favorite, hands-down, is their flourless chocolate cake and I hope they never take it off the menu! I swear I've been here just for the dessert. They do it so well. I've also gone to the little Italy location, but definitely prefer the La Mesa, just for the atmosphere, ambience, and customer service. I've brought many guest here as well. My wife and I took my mom to Farmer's Table on Saturday and had a wonderful time. After being seated, there was some delay and mix up with who was serving us, but when my wife was able to get the attention of Mikaela, she was very apologetic and said she was happy to serve us and more than made up for the wait. The food was excellent. My wife and I shared their caprese salad which was very good. We loved the presentation with the burrata stuffed in a hollowed out heirloom tomato with a truffle garnish. My 89 year old mom absolutely devoured her short rib, which was very large and tender. I had the special ribeye that was cooked to perfection and my wife had the gnocchi which was excellent. To make up for our wait, they treated us to two desserts. My only critique would be that there needed to be a higher quality red wine choices to go with their excellent entrees. The food here is delicious. It's in a great part of La Mesa and I really dig the atmosphere inside. We came here for brunch. We made reservations but there really isn't a huge need to make them. We usually got seated fairly quickly. So what do they have here for brunch? Lots of egg based dishes. They have a small section for the sweet tooth, french toast/waffles. Of course there's also some flatbreads. Finally they have some boozy morning starts and also caffine. So, what did we get? We ended up ordering a porkbelly flatbread to start, smoked salmon eggs benedict and banana french toast. The porkbelly french toast was a good way to open the table. The arugula paired nicely with their cheese. The french toast came on second and was fantastic. The warm sweet toast tasted great with the sweet syrup soaked banana. The smoked salmon eggs benedict? Yikes, not so great. We knew coming in they were out of muffins, so no worries. They sub'd it with sour dough. It was ok but we had to carve around the burnt parts. The egg yolks were super well done. That's two out of two times we ordered eggs benedict that came with overcooked yolks. We had to flaf the waitress just to confirm their benedicts didn't come with cooked yoke by default, sadly it was a botch up. So to sum it up. I really liked the flat bread and their french toasts. They were great orders for the table. I'd avoid their benedicts. They have a track record for overcooking the yolks. The ambience was nice, the food was excellent, and except for the service of ONE person, the service was trash. Three stars because the food was great! From walking to the podium to check in and no one being there, to going inside to look for the host, to being met with no smile and no welcoming energy (by two people) - we only have pizza and salad - okaaaay... I called my party, we agreed the food choices were sufficient (although they really wanted brunch, lunch food - but it was late - understood). Then we were met by the same girl with no energy and a less than welcoming attitude who asked us if we were good with pizza and salad, like she hadn't spoken to me five minutes before. She stopped to get menus and took us to our table, placed the menus down and walked away. I said THANK YOU, and my niece said, at least you said thank you. And that's because I was trying to keep from saying something unpleasant. While we were sat at our table, about fifteen minutes go by before a woman in an apron walked by on her way to another table who said she'd be right back, all while walking passed our table to another table. I asked her if we could have some water and she said, I said I'd be back. Needless to say, she never came back. At that point, a gentleman in an apron came to the table and poured us water and asked if we wanted something to drink and if we were ready to order. He poured us water and came back to take our orders. When our food came out, it smelled great, it was hot, and we couldn't wait to eat. It was amazing! I would suggest when using ingredients that have liquid, to strain it more so the crust won't be soggy. Soggy pizza is not great, but the flavor was impeccable. We were more than half way through our meal before we were checked on. At least we didn't need anything. When we were nearly finished, someone who appeared to be a manager, asked if everything was okay. My niece asked for the check and that was the fastest service we received. Now, I don't know if these people were tired from a morning rush and just didn't want to see people between lunch and dinner so they could rest or what. All I know is, I'm glad the food was good because I will NOT be going back. My nieces came from out of town and I spoke highly of this place because of what I was told. A friend of mine has a son who used to manage a different location. I'm pretty sure that staff didn't act like these people did. We didn't leave because most places closed at 3pm. With the exception of the woman who was talking in passing, the unsmiling, unfriendly staff were young. The older ones were a little more helpful. I didn't see a name tag in the bunch nor were we told any names. I had to ask the gentleman who served us his name. I'm pretty sure I will get looked at negatively for this review, but I am VERY pro customer service. Flew in from Texas just to see what the hype was all about. Went on a Saturday at 11:39 am without a reservation..quoted 10-15 minute wait and we were sat in less than 10 minutes. The hostess was very friendly. The place was busy but not overly packed to where it was chaos. It has a very open air concept to it with the main attraction being the bar area. We sat for a very very long time prior to being acknowledged.. I don't mean 5 or 10 minutes, I mean 52 minutes!?! We finally waved someone down who had our waitress come and take our order and bring us water. Yes, I keep a timer on certain things in able to properly review establishments. We placed our food order at 1 pm and by 1:20 we had our food. We ordered the following: Barnyard Bloody Mary $55 Farmers pizza $14 Pepperoni pizza $14 Pork belly pizza $15 Stuffed French toast $15.50 Barnyard Bloody Mary: bacon wrapped shrimp, jalapeño, andouille sausage, bacon, pickled veggies, bacon wrapped hot dog, mexican-style street corn, corned beef, stuffed olive, mushroom with melted mozzarella and a whole roasted chicken (looks fried and has a flash fried crunch too) Ok guys so flavor is spot on with the food on top of this even the Bloody Mary itself was decent. Svedka vodka is cheap vodka but they managed to mask it well with the tomato and spice concoction. Farmers Pizza: was good, good crust with a nice crunch, toppings were well proportioned and cheese ratio was on point. Pepperoni pizza: fresh mozzarella and greasy pepperoni.. what else can you ask for! Pork belly pizza- probably my least favorite but only because the pork bellly was boiled/ soft and had no crunch at all. If they had flash fried it, cut into smaller chunks and spread all over the pizza, this dish would be a 10.. as it stands it's a 5.5 simply because of the soggy pork belly didn't mix well with the fresh mozzarella, the goat cheese, pesto and fresh kale. Stuffed French toast: I didn't have a taste so can't really describe it but my companion said " it was good, not overly sweet and would go back for it again". We finished all of our food around 2:30 and I tried to redeem the check in promo of a free dessert but they wouldn't accept it because it's only valid after 3 pm. I figured with waiting for almost an hour sitting down without being greeted they would honor it, but this was not the case. Came in today at 8:15 am. Had a large(er) group meeting us there at 8:30. Got there a little early to reserve a table due to the fact everyone in our party were on time constraints. Walked in and was greeted right away only to be told "oh sorry, we don't open until 9:30"....... Hmmmmm......that's funny, your own website said 8:00.....so I walked back outside and called their phone number....I asked to speak to the manager and asked politely what time they open.....she's kindly responds with 9:00am... Definitely not the end of the world and definitely first world problems. However, if I were a restaurant owner I'd want to know if I was missing out on a large group of people not spending their money in my restaurant, merely for the fact that it was being poorly run and had obvious poor communication within my employees. I don't understand why the door was wide open on a balmy hot day but it was and the flies were insufferable. Much improved over the last experience. Just need to even out expectations. Farmers Table is not an upscale fancy spot meant to contend with greats. What it excels at is being a very good, very approachable and classy neighborhood option for mom and dads on date nights. It's also a good local spot to take family that may be visiting from out of town. Food quality has risen. I ordered what is a pretty standard pesto seafood pasta and was pleasantly surprised. The seafood was nicely cooked and the portion was plentiful. The accompanying wine and cocktails were an easy 8/10. Menu was very limited that night compared to the menu posted online, which was disappointing. Food arrived pretty quickly once we actually got our order in but it was very bland with not much flavor. I expect better tasting food for the expensive price. 18% gratuity was automatically added to the bill but definitely not earned. So glad we came during the week because I can only imagine how busy this place is on the weekend. I ordered the Mexican Mocha with the Ricotta Stuffed Gnocchi. My husband got the Nitro Coffee with the Meatball Panini. All sooo good. My mocha was smooth with a little spice. The gnocchi was in a nice creamy basil sauce that was perfectly cooked.
