Our favorites are: Big breakfast- comes with coffee or OJ, bacon eggs, potatoes, choice of toast. Club sandwich with fruit - my kid said this is the best club sandwich she's ever had. It was supposed to be great. Owned by the people who own Swammis. Well it was okay. We ordered a salad and a wrap. The Thai wrap was just dry chicken, tomatoes in a dry wrap with hot teriyaki sauce. Nothing a Thai about it and would not order it again. The steak on the salad had a lot of fat and while the salad was good it was har to cut the steak in the bowl provided. Would have been better on a large plate. Lots of the breakfast items loooe s great and hive hears good reviews. Maybe today was just not their day. read more

Positives: my vanilla latte was good, that was all the good. Negatives: the food having no flavor AT ALL! Like if it tastes bad that's one thing but the taste of nothingness is insane... Of the workers here 2/5 were polite if you needed anything or had a question. 10/10, a must try! This is officially my new breakfast spot. The chilaquiles are hands down authentic and full of flavor. The pancakes were soft, moist, and delicious. The iced coffee? So good. A very cozy restaurant that offers self indoor or outdoor seatiing. La Mesa Bistro is the real deal. Offering a WIDE variety of menu items chances are they have something for you as well. They do close at 2pm but luckily we arrived before their afternoon rush. I ordered the Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich with fries and my partner Classic Eggs Benedict. The french fries we fried to a perfection perfectly seasoned, crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. The burger was delicious! The Eggs benedict were as expected, delicious, portion sizes were good and their house potatoes were extremely flavorful. A great experience, I'll definitely return for more. read more

This place was TERRIBLE. I would never go here again. I ordered the lobster Benedict, that was the worst Benedict I've ever had. They overcooked the eggs, the lobster was nasty, and the greens were nasty. I ordered a cappuccino and I got a latte. Customer service is non existent. We love the Bistro! We love having breakfast at the Bistro. The staff is always friendly and food is always good! Seriously the French toast is soooo good. Eggs are always cooked perfectly and like that they have booths, tables and tall tables, and a patio. It's always pretty bustling, often can be loud with families and La Mesa locals even though it seems tucked away. Honestly I didn't even know it was there until someone told us to check it out. First time trying eating at La Mesa Bistro and Bakery. My wife and I had lunch with a friend. I had no idea you had to order food first then grab a table. We ended up waiting to order while my friend arrived. While waiting, I noticed the place became very busy. We were able to get a table outside. Once my friend arrived, she said the food comes out very fast since she frequently eats here. We probably waited 5 min before our food arrived. The cashier and staff were very welcoming and polite. I ended up ordering the chicken pesto wrap with fruit. The pesto was very subtle and not overwhelming. Overall, it was a great fresh dish especially if you're trying to eat more healthy. Before I came here I looked at their online menu and I was so impressed by the prices. Everything was so affordable! I couldn't believe it. Then I got to the restaurant and realized that I indeed should not believe: their actual menu in the restaurant is dramatically more expensive. It was too good to be true! And the real prices seem high for a place with counter ordering.... In addition to their online menu, they also have different menus inside. The printed menu is massive. But then there are menus on the walls, and while some of the items are the same, some are completely different. Too many choices and too much disorganization! But the food itself was great. I got the ricotta lemon blueberry pancakes and they were perfectly moist and flavorful. They were great even without syrup, and top notch with. My order came with eggs and bacon, and I was thrilled that they had a veggie bacon substitution with no extra charge. Our family recommended this place for brunch and just by looking at the menu prior to coming, some of the photos looked good so I was pretty stoked. There's a ton of options with fairly large portion sizes, so it was perfect for sharing amongst each other. I ordered the Italian Sausage Scrambler with a side of potatoes and had a hot chocolate. I like how they made the potatoes crispy and the size of the hot chocolate was huge (as it should be imo - thank you!). Since portion sizes were big, we were able to share and try out the açaí bowl (as pictured) with my family and my cousin's corn beef hash (which was huge and crispy). My family and I ideally look forward to breakfast and brunch when we eat out, and we weren't disappointed coming here! It was a very family-friendly ambiance, employees and customers were very nice and friendly people, and it seemed to be an overall good community! Food is amazing. Service, is horrible. The two times I came here I had the lovely experience of interacting with Jose. The main person that's always taking orders. The first time I came here when I was ordering my food with him, he was too interested in texting on his phone instead of taking my order. The second time I came here the tables outside had water on them, which wasn't the issues (but kind of is because how do you have a restaurant with outdoor seating and not make a point to wipe down the tables??? It southern San Diego, get a grip) the problem was the attitude I received from him when I asked for something to wipe the table off with. I understand when someone's the only person taking orders and what have you, but it's all in the disposition and tone. I waited 10 minutes after asking him the first time for something to wipe the table off with (mind you I did not ask him to wipe it down - also how am I supposed to set my drinks or bag down on the table and relax if a table is wet?) and when I went back inside to ask for something to wipe the table down with, his response was, "did your food get delivered yet?" Knowing damn well it didn't. His response tells me he was waiting for my food to be delivered to address the issue. Anyways, his lackluster response really irritated me so I went back outside then this wise guy decided to wipe down the table with a wet rag. The table is wet. Why would you wipe the table down with a wet rag??? You're just smearing everything around and leaving the table wet. Then the food comes out. So then I ask the guy bringing out our food if we can get something to dry the table off with, which seemed to irk him. He comes out and mansplains why the table is wet, like no shit Sherlock. Really. I had no idea the table was wet because of condensation. That wasn't the issue. Anyways, I came in today and Jose couldn't be happier to see me. This guy really needs to learn customer service him and the food server from last time glanced at me and spoke in Spanish to each other like I couldn't understand the snarky conversation between. The food and coffee here is delicious. We normally visit in the mornings and have breakfast items. My husband loves the gluten-free waffle! It doesn't taste like it's GF at all. The portion sizes are decent for the price you pay. Staff is friendly. Restaurant has a lot of seating inside and out. Only reason I took away a star is sometimes the ordering process takes way too long. We've walked out twice because they have one person taking the in-person walk up orders and taking phone orders. So if you're standing in line, you have to wait for the phone order to be taken. They need more people working the front when it's busy. Other than that it's a great place to dine. read more
