We have been to Toasted probably 5 or so times since moving to La Mesa and love it! We definitely recommend it. AMBIANCE: The ambiance is very nice. The restaurant is cute and not too noisy. There is an indoor and outdoor area. SERVICE: We have never had a bad service experience at Toasted. Our waitress today in particular was great. My niece wanted a mimosa without alcohol, and she happily accommodated and even suggested adding some soda water to make it more like a mimosa. FOOD & DRINKS: In the many times we have been there, we have had the following; DRINKS: -Mimosa Flight: Too be honest, I did not love the flight. The Prickly Pear was my favorite, but I tend to prefer sweeter drinks, and I would say overall, the cocktails are not super sweet there, which for many people is a plus (just not me). -Lavender Cocktail - Good but also not super sweet -Chai Latte - I have had it hot and iced and liked it both ways FOOD: -Santa Fe Scramble - My favorite dish I have tried to date. Our waitress compared it to tortilla soup in an egg dish, and I would say that's a new perfect description except I think this is way better than tortilla soup -Denver Scramble - Very good and would order again -Breakfast Sammy - Good. A typical breakfast sandwich, so if that's what you're in the mood for, get this. That being said, I wouldn't say there is anything that sets this breakfast sandwich apart from others. -Stuffed French Toast - Good but not my favorite. I think it would've been better with hot honey and syrup on the side? - Again these pancakes are THICK and flavor was "meh" so you prolly won't even finish them all and you might need to ask for extra syrup (like myself) I honestly think the chicken and French toast would've been a better option and I might ask for that accommodation next time if I order the same thing (I prolly won't, I like to try new tings hehe). I was surprised by this spot! Part of the Toasted Gastrobrunch group, Toasted has several other locations, including those in Imperial Beach, Oceanside and Del Mar. This particular location is a stylish, full-service restaurant. And, overall, the restaurant prices itself on its modern take on breakfast, brunch and dinner. Some of their go to items are Eggs in Purgatory, the Smoked Salmon Toast, the Stuffed French Toast and their mimosas, which change regularly (and you can get the bottomless mimosas for $25). I am a super fan of their potatoes, Eggs Benedict options and gently cooked eggs. The ambiance is cozy and cool, and even though it gets very busy, it doesn't feel crammed or overwhelming. I appreciate the attentiveness and thoughtfulness of the team here. They appear to have planned comfort over everything, because even the tables are crammed next to one another too close that you can hear your neighbor breathing. Plus, the space is bright and open with a clean and modern feel. I love that the large windows let in plenty of natural light and, when it is cooler out, a lovely breeze. My coworkers and I recently enjoyed lunch at Toasted La Mesa on a Tuesday afternoon. We made reservations, but they weren't busy when we arrived, so they really weren't needed. We did, however, inquire about weekend reservations and they do not offer them, so if you're stopping by on the weekend, prepare for a wait. We sat on their outside covered patio, but they do have a large interior dining room and a spacious bar. The placement of seats is interesting as there is an inside patio and then an indoor eating area. There is an open kitchen so you can see what the chefs are doing along with a bar. The server was attentive and was prompt in taking my drink and food order. I loved seeing the green plants and the fact there were no TVs. We did a walk-in on a Sunday morning and got seated almost immediately. Food was delicious!!! Be prepared for an abundance amount of food here because it is generous in portions. The price of each plate does meet up to the generous portion. I ordered the avocado toast along with the shrimp and grits and I ended up having to take them home. I'm a big fan of shrimp and grits so this one for me is a bit more creamier than usual and as I am lactose, it didn't sit too well with me. The passion fruit iced tea was bland, and the grilled cheese was so crispy it was tough on the mouth. The pancakes were tasty and hit the spot, but I much preferred them with maple syrup rather than the spicy breakfast syrup it was served with. This also led the dish to be less cohesive, which is on me, but it did feel like hot chicken tenders and, separately, pancakes. The breakfast quesadilla was stuffed full of breakfast items and filling, though nothing to write home about. My very first time trying any toast and it was amazing. The lobster toast had so many flavors going on I could not stop eating it. I've seen many toasts on many menus trying the smoked salmon and lobster opened a new window for me. Don't get me started on the breakfast quesadilla. This thing was fantastic and huge. I had a nice lunch at Toasted La Mesa with a few friends. When we arrived it took a while for a staff to come and greet us and seat us. There wasn't anyone else waiting to be sat. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very open. I ordered the BLT sandwich and shared the Balsamic Grilled Chicken salad. The sandwich was good. It was served on brioche bread. We've been 3 times now and I'm so sad to say we won't be going back unless something changes. I'm not sure if it's a short staffing issue making a problem worse, but the service has been...slow. And by slow I mean see the wait staff max three times in your meal slow. Greeting, order delivery, and check (after you chase them down). The food is pretty good for brunch fare, with the really breakfast-stuff topping the flavor list. Drinks are definitely in need of help. The only worse old fashioned I've ever had was at an airport bar in South Dakota where I KNEW I was making an egregious error trying a mixed drink. Sparkling wine was flat, and I had to physically get up and walk to the three staffers at the bar to refill my water. I hope they can fix some of these critical issues. How did I not know this was the old Sammy's woodfired pizza restaurant! And how have I never tried this place before!? You can reserve a space in line right here through yelp and I did that this morning! It was a hot day and we were ready for some brunch and the minute we walked in we were sat almost immediately and we were "3rd in line". The hostess was so sweet and helpful since we had an animal with us. She set up the perfect spot in the corner on the patio and it was so comfortable inside the restaurant being such a hot day! Now, let's move onto the drinks! They have such an amazing selection of refreshing beverages, including mimosa flights, bloody Mary's, and signature cocktails! We had the lavender cocktail and the cucumber cocktail and they were refreshing and great! We both decided to also get an iced chai latte and those were absolutely delicious as well! Moving onto the food we decided to order off of the light menu since we were drinking our calories this morning! I had the avocado toast with an egg and it was so delicious! Considering the wait, I thought the food would be amazing but it was just okay. I was craving some classic chicken and waffles, but they only had chicken and pancakes. Chicken was alright but the pancakes were so dry, even with syrup. I was glad that the portion sizes were good at least. The service is a bit weird too because staff likes to disappear. This was such a 360 from my last visit I'm a little baffled by it. We came here after pride and it was about a 30min wait. We got a booth and it was smooth sailing in the beginning with our food coming out in timely manners and it all tasted great. However, I waited at least five minutes before being attended to, and by that time, a line had formed behind me. The staff informed me of a 20-30 minute wait, which was reasonable considering their busy schedule. Following an additional five-minute wait, the waiter who had taken my info requested it again and informed me we were next in line, despite there being no line. The scramble contained lobster chunks, which I appreciated, although I prefer my meals to be served warm rather than cold. The potatoes were exceptionally addictive, and I ultimately took them home. I also ordered a chai latte, which had the ideal level of sweetness for my taste. My husband ordered the Short Rib Benny; his only complaint was that the rosemary bread overpowered the flavor of the short rib. Finally, it is an excellent place for brunch in East County. Sammy's is now toasted, and it's a hit. Fiona and Mali were pleased with its lovely decor and outside seating. Came to Toasted for breakfast after them claiming it's "the best breakfast spot"--unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. The food was just okay, nothing memorable, and the portions were surprisingly small for the price. We ordered two breakfast plates (no drinks or sides), and the bill came to nearly $90 with tip. At around $35 per breakfast plate, I expected a lot more in both quality and quantity. Not worth the price, and I won't be coming back. read more

Loved the mimosa flight!! All the flavors were pretty good. I didn't find any of them too sweet but that might be a preference thing. The parmesan potatoes balls were tasty little morsels! I need more of these in my life. My friends hash was decent and the fried chicken sammie was good as well. I love shakshuka and the eggs in purgatory was a nice twist. Slight bit of spice and great flavor. I get my egg med done, not runny and a lot of the reviews said the bread was way too hard but it's a bread bowl so it was the right level of hard plus it soaks up all the shakshuka sauce. I really like this place and would like to go back to taste some more things. Service was decent, they were just busy. We Sat inside but they had an outdoor area as well. It seems sort of tucked away under the trolley. Anyway, cute place and good food. read more
