I had a fantastic experience with the team at Farmscape. From conception to planning with Dan and Francisco, to installation and planting with Lorenzo & Diego, I was really happy with the results. We had planned out an area approximately 10,000 sq feet with a mix of native plants, fruit trees, and 3 raised beds in a fairly flat space with some challenges to the grading of the property. The installation was very smooth, no real hiccups, and I've been enjoying a lot of my time in the backyard ever since things were planted three weeks ago, and seeing the daily changes to each one of my new friends. I had come from gardening and tending to a very small apartment sized patio to a much larger backyard with this project --- so I really appreciated Farmscape's expertise in native California plants. I would not have been able to select these plants on my own without their help & expertise. They really listened to some of my interests in having shrubs with purple and red colors, and lots of types of mint & herbs - some are familiar and some are very new to me, and I'm excited to see how my little home shapes out in the next few years. I also had some very specific non-native requests for Chinese & Japanese fruit trees that they were able to source and accommodate, which I was so thankful for. We have loved working with Farmscape, especially with Nick who is an expert in irrigation solutions! We had about a 5000 sq ft lot covered with decomposed granite. Nick and his team put in irrigation that allowed us to create multiple perennial beds , grow some fruit trees (apple, plum, fig and lemon) and we're slowly creating our own magical wild garden. He also built three raised veggie boxes with irrigation. The farmscape team also sources vegetable starts each season, amends our veggie beds and does our planting. Whether you're an active gardener and want to be very involved, or don't have the time and need more help, they're amazing! I have tried to take an active role, at least as a student, learning a lot of about gardening while seeing it happen in front of me. About five weeks ago Lara and the team from Contreras Landscaping set up my 4'x16' raised planter. Organic soil, irrigation, trellises, timer, non-GMO plants, grading...in other words, THE WORKS! I was amazed at how much work and care went into the installation, the types of materials used and the attention to detail. Lara also did the initial planting (a combination of starts and seeds) and answered all of my questions about spacing, watering, sun, etc. She had also given me recommendation on local growers, organic pest control and reading materials. Although I am outside of the maintenance zone, Lara is no further than a text away. I've sent her pictures of my struggles and triumphs and she's always prompt to reply. Farmer Nikki comes once a week to maintain it ( we are not the best gardeners). My three year old daughter is obsessed with the garden and looks forward to Nikki's weekly visits. Nikki always lets her help by letting her spray leaves and she lets her help plant too. She is really great with kids and communicates what she is doing to her very well. They are so knowledgeable, friendly, professional and just wonderful. They let you be involved as much as you'd like. She showed up the first time with great ideas and told me should would send me some plans and ideas via email. A few days later she emailed and that she was looking to work with me in the Fall. We've been extremely happy with out Farmscape garden. We started it last December and within a few weeks we had lots of fresh vegetables to harvest. Several varieties of lettuce, kale, chard, carrots, beets, onions, garlic, peas, broccoli, parsley, cilantro and more. Now we're in to the spring and summer crops, and it's starting to look really lush and productive. We started out with Lowell, who is amazing and knowledgeable, and now we have Nikki, who is also great. When we started, I was mostly looking to have fresh, flavorful vegetables; I didn't think we'd be saving money. However, not only do we need to buy far less produce from stores, but we even go out to eat less because the home-grown stuff is so good. Having a garden improved our nutrition because when there's so much great food right there, you want to use it. Kale, which is delicious, found its way into many more dishes than I'd have thought possible. We spend a lot more time out in the garden than we ever did when the space was just a lawn. And it's a lot nicer looking -- a combination of vegetables growing in raised beds, plus an herb border along one side, artichokes, and more herbs in pots. I love that planning dinners now involves heading out back to pick whatever's looking great and ready to eat. read more

I told a friend of mine that I'd love to have vegetable boxes installed on my deck and he said look no further than Farmscape. So, I randomly called them up and boy am I glad I did! Set up an appointment with Sean, who eventually scoped out the house and did a thorough job of finding out what vegetables I wanted to plant and letting me know what Farmscape had to offer. He designed the boxes and what would go in them and the next thing I know, Sean and his colleague Matthew arrived to install everything. The garden is irrigated on a timer, so it's as easy as can be.
