I could mimic the passionless "I'd rather be fishing" attitude of the guy doing the pouring... or the sweet but clueless register lady; and give this one star for pathetic service without a smile, more of a smirk. Especially when at an advertised wine and cheese event they had no cheese! and when Bae enquired and reluctantly wound up having to purchase the crackers n cheese herself, the looks on the staffs faces were bewildering; "why would anyone want wine and cheese?...we don't do that". The pours and the four wines selected were nice for a buck. That boosts this review up a star. We wound up getting "a nice Chianti'...slurp slurp slurp slurp!" No interlude, no palette cleanser, just "no I'd rather be fishing attitude from the sommelier who was tucked in the back of a narrow space between racks. You might have been treated better at a wIne sampling at the end cap of the wine section of Safeway. But they did have a fine selection of wines from outside of Cali; Italy, Spain, France, Portugal to name a few. That gets them up to 4 stars. But the fact I had to serve our party Baes purchased cheese n crackers on a desk alcove using plastic plate n knife, at wine and cheese establishment, under the suspicious watchful eye of the pourer who was pissed our friend dropped some cheese on the floor, I gotta grab a star back. And with deference, announce, we won't be back! Well a smart owner who checks his yelp reviews quickly corrected me on the cheese part of the review. Apparently the assumption on our part about cheese was a misrepresentation by the crew who invited us. They too thought it would be a cheesy event. Our bad! Sorry and thanks for the correction...

I ordered the salami and cheese sandwich with purple onions. I had to order with Dutch Crunch which is a real San Francisco thing. The sandwich was tasty but that extra thickness of cheese made it more delicious. This is the spot for a good classic sandwich. Anchovy pasta had good flavor and fortunately wasn't too salty, as anchovy pastas tend to run the risk of. But the bottom of the bowl had about a 1/3 cup of oil left. Basically so much oil that the sauce had separated. It was off-putting. I felt like it was some kind of college student takeout food. Which is fine, just price it accordingly. IMO this is too pricey for what you get. And not worth the calories.

It's a good place for a laid-back atmosphere. The restaurant is fast casual. When you enter, you can look at the menu and place your order. You choose your own pasta and sauce. They also have items such as sandwiches and salads. My best friend and I got the same thing--Rigatoni with Bolognese. I opted for no cheese on top. The pasta was al dente, but I definitely wish there had been a bit more sauce on the meat. The portion was decent for the price, but I do feel like I could make this at home. So if I come back, I'd opt for something else. The Italian Homemade Company has a few locations throughout the Bay Area. This one-off College Ave. is great for a quick pasta pick-me-up. They have a modest but solid selection of Italian deli meats (Serrano ham, prosciutto, pancetta, etc), pasta, olive oil, vinegars, and a couple specialty jams (calabrian chile orange, etc) - basically all you'd need for a gourmet charcuterie board meal or snack. Last time I was here, picked ip a bottle of nicely aged balsamic vinegar from Italy, which has lasted me for a couple years. Today, decided to try one of their specialty Italian sandwiches with a shot of expresso on the side... and Mama Mia was the sandwich absolutely amazing! I highly recommend the Jamon Serrano & Manchego sandwich ($14.50). It comes with shaved ribbons of serrano ham, 1/5 inch thick slice of aged manchego cheese, a creamy spread of chevre goat cheese, chopped/marinated artichokes and arugula greens on a crusty/crunchy baguette (between half to a full foot long). I practically finished this within 10 minutes - it was so good! The expresso shot ($3.25) was also a good pairing for me. Loved the aroma, made from nicely dark roasted beans. I ask him if he is serious. he says yes.
