This was a take out order. I'd seen this on my DoorDash app and they also had a deal for free fries. My last couple experience withe The Cheesesteak shop and their quality had me trying a different place. Pleasantly surprised that I could get free tatertots instead of fries. My food arrived hot and it was packed with meat and goodness. So the roll wasn't ambrose but the sandwich had good flavor. The meat wasn't as chopped as good a the Cheesesteak and the sweet and hot peppers were a couple strips and sparse than Cheeseteak shop. Came here for a quick lunch. It's located right in the heart of Lake Merritt. The staff were very polite and helpful when I was placing my order. I ordered the mushroom Philly and it was delicious! They add a good amount of meat into the sandwich, unlike some other places. My sandwich was not soggy and was full of flavor! We kept passing by this busy spot on Lakeshore and had a weak moment when we decided to ignore our sags and convince ourselves we were twenty-somethings who could eat anything. I went to IB's recently to grab a bite before heading to the Grand Lake to catch a movie. I've been patronizing this chain since I was a kid and they never really have let me down. During this venture I decided to go with the bacon steak with chicken and sweet peppers. When selecting your sandwich you have a few meat options to pick from including beef, chicken, and lamb. Most of the meat options are also halal I believe. My sandwich was super flavorful as usual and loaded to the brim with toppings. Not pictured are the garlic waffle fries I ended up splitting with a friend which were also crispy and delicious. The vibe of IB's on Lakeshore is casual. There's artwork hung on the walls of their various sandwich selections. This is a good spot to drop by if you're in the area for shopping or a drink and want some comfort food to hold you over. I'd have given 5 stars but their ice machine is always broken and room temperature lemonade is more gross/depressing than you might imagine. I stopped here a couple months ago after a hike and was severely dehydrated and so excited that a place was both 1) open and 2) had lemonade. The last part of my hike I had even been hallucinating a little oasis of lemonade. But seeing it for real at almost midnight was so exciting. But then he said the ice machine is broken, so I was a little disappointed but I thought that's ok, it's still lemonade. But then they served it out of the container on the table, and it was a hot day/night, and the lemonade was slightly warm. I tried so hard to enjoy it but it was just so bad I threw half of it away. Well I just stopped in again - again after a long hike and very parched - and everything but this place was closed - and again he told me the ice machine is broken. I don't know if I just have bad luck, or if the ice machine has been broken for months and nobody's bothered to fix it or get a new one. The people seemed nice, the food was surprisingly good (I say surprisingly because places open this late sometimes are pretty bad, but food was solid) - but damn, drinking this depressing lemonade is not enjoyable. If you don't believe me or think I'm being a prima donna, please as an experiment try room temp lemonade. It is such a sad drink! Please fix your ice machine - having an ice machine out for months makes me worry other things aren't tended to. Again, it might be a total coincidence and it broke twice and I just happened to show up on both days - no idea. If you sell me an iced lemonade I will change this review to 5 stars. read more

IMO, an authentic Philly Cheesesteak can only be compared to where they are from, and that's Philadelphia. This fell well short, almost incomparable. There was plenty of meat, but it was on the dry side, and lacking the tenderness and flavor I am accoustomed to from the many shops hailing from and around Philadelphia. It looked like a Philly, but that's about it. There was no balance, despite the few ingredients (Ordered the Original "Plain" w/hot peppers). But for delivery I've never been disappointed and always get what I ordered ! I always get the surf and turf cheese steak add extra cheese Mayo and mushrooms and they never fail to disappoint ! It's not much to look at aesthetically lol , but lord it's everything it's supposed to be . Sometimes depending on how long the delivery takes the breed might come back a tad soggy . But as you can tell by what I order I love a sloppy cheesesteak so that's bound to happen reguardless . Meat is always cooked well never chewy . They use nice big shrimp . I also love the loaded bear fries omg ! The cheese and onions are everything the onions are always cooked all the way through no raw chunks ever . One sandwich can be filling enough for self or you can share it if you get a side . There's a few more I want to try like the prince of Berkeley and the garlic steak add some shrimp but the surf and turf my way got me in a chokehold ! First time trying IB's. I ordered delivery and when it arrived, it was hot and looked great- exactly like the good photos. The popcorn chicken was crunchy (pulverized chicken rather than real chicken pieces so it wasn't juicy) , the bacon/cheese fries were dripping in toppings (eat them first before things get soggy), and the pepper cheesesteak was tasty! I think the steak pieces need be chopped smaller so when you're a bite, you don't have a big piece of steak dangling out of your mouth and every bite has a good mix of ingredients. The steak wasn't that tender, but chopping it up smaller would totally fix that. Everything ate a bit salty, but that's typical of fast food. I give it a solid 3.5 stars. read more

Honestly. When I first started coming to this location it was fire. But the quality has taken a nosedive. Before, the meat was perfect- chopped up, no fatty pieces, crispy and juicy. And now I get so many nasty huge piece of fat. I lost my appetite eating it. And they used to use these delicious sweet peppers like the cheesesteak shop that was sweet and hot. FYI the large was the size of my forearm and can probably feed 3 people. For fries they have: regular, curly, waffle, and tator tots I ordered on their website and food was ready in 15 minutes. Street parking can be difficult along Lakeshore, but there's a parking lot by Trader Joe's that usually has spots if you can't find street parking. read more

The food was hot and smelled delicious, it was filled with a good amount of beef & shrimp so I was excited to bite into it BUT the meat was all gristle! It was as if someone skinned a beef rib and chewed all the meat off and left the part with the fat & gristle then put it in the sandwich with the shrimp! I thought well maybe that one bite but the next two were the same, I pulled three large pieces out so that was basically all the meat. The shrimp was over-cooked and a little tough, overall I was disappointed with the quality of the meat. I think we got leftover, pre-chewed meat. Ordered a mushroom cheese steak - grass fed beef - very flavorful. Grass fed beef. This is something that usually hyper aware people or maybe college educated people appreciate and value. Willingness to pay a little more because you understand life is more than just whats in your own wallet. The beef itself was in very small pieces and a little bit on the greasy side. More salty than I like but a very generous portion and tons of flavor. Cheese was there but not overpowering. I think this food is best for the drunk UC Berkeley crowds. Maybe its because its where I first noticed this brand - right beside Seniors and King Pin. Its not the most refined or delicate food but it gets the job done. I really don't think that lettuce fits well on this sandwich - because of the amount of super hot meat it just becomes almost cooked and wilted. The bun was tender - neither the meat nor the bread required much chewing at all. Just snarf it down. This particular store has different hours than the Berkeley store - not open as late from what I could tell. I have ordered delivery from IBs Lakeshore with special instructions 'yellow cheese light mayo light mustard'. They've gotten it wrong multiple times so my man figured light mayo and mustard is not mandatory and we don't mind a little more of either because we can scrape it off but to give white cheese no matter what we ask is not cool. Now he's tried to just simplify the order (no cheese, CHICKEN only) and instead they give us steak. This is ridiculous when they have a place to put special instructions for your order but they continue to not follow the instruction. It feels like it's on purpose honestly because the receipt says our exact order but our order from IBs Lakeshore is ALWAYS wrong. I don't order from there for myself because I don't believe in paying for them to continue to purposefully mess up my order but my man wants it and gives them the benefit of the doubt because he has been going there in person to order for years so he doesn't understand why they would continue to mess up his order without a good reason. I on the other hand refuse to order from here anymore because the messed up order has now escalated to just giving us whatever they want us to have and I'm not going for it. If you want your food that you actually order don't go to this locations because they will play with your money and your order.Also he has taken his food back twice in person to tell them face to face that the order is messed up and they've given him a corrected replacement order but why get it wrong in the first place?!? IB's Lakeshore in Oakland makes good cheese steak sandwiches, but they aren't perfect. I have tried their Original Cheese Steak and Mushroom Cheese Steak sandwiches. I ordered both with everything on them. Both sandwiches I would give them 4-stars. Heavy with meat fillings, not much lettuce & tomato. Also, not much peppers! I had to splash on my own hot sauce to spice it up. I don't know, maybe it's better to let the diner add his/her own heat. But I'd prefer to have some more peppers. But I like their cheese steaks sandwiches better than Uptowns. These sandwiches seem heavier in meat filling. Also, Lakeshore has better sides. When I found out about this location, it was a must visit for my husband and me. Lakeshore shopping district's street parking can be problematic. It's a busy shopping district and there is plenty of foot traffic. We lucked out and found street parking near by. After perusing the menu, I ordered two cheesesteak sandwiches for hubby and me. I then asked about Isam, only to find out he passed away a few months ago. However, his legacy continues with his hoagies and chili cheese fries. Specialties: burgers, sandwiches (limited selections), cheesesteaks, fries, and wings and more. Price range from $3.00 for naked fries to $24.00 for a large surf & turf or a large bacon steak. Considering a combo of fries and beverage? Add $4.00 more to a burger, sandwich or cheesesteak. Cheesesteak includes choice of meat (beef, chicken, roast turkey, lamb), cheese, grilled onions, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes and not so hot sauce. Eats: one large IB's original for hubby and one regular avogobble for me. Cost: about $32.00 (tax included). Wow! The large IB's original was at least 18" long, enough to feed three people. The regular avogobble was about 9" long, and enough to feed two people with small appetite. My avogobble had a nice balance of fresh roasted turkey, avocado and cheddar. Delish and bomb-diggity good.
