I can see why the reviews are so high for this little grocery shop. It's full of fresh food and particular products that cater to people with different dietary restrictions. The prices are reasonable, and there are some good sales too. I was able to find vegan Mochi in many different flavors including matcha and mango. I purchased the matcha flavored ones and they really brought me back to my mochi childhood memories. Along with other satisfying products, I purchased their freshly made veggie spring rolls that include layered thinly sliced avocado, shredded carrots, lettuce and cucumber. The sauce that comes with it is sweet-chili flavored, and all the ingredients for everything are simple. The presentation is nice, and the rolls are well-held together. I don't need to worry about anything falling out, so it makes this a good snack/meal for on the go. Finally, the customer service is exceptional. I felt welcome, and the place had an overall friendly atmosphere. After a day full of anxiety, it was nice to have it calm down in this grocery shop lol. racist. the male cashier racially profiled me. I had shopped at Nature's multiple times without a problem, but it only takes one racist encounter for me not to support a business. I went in one night to buy a couple things. I even asked the cashier to help me find the items in the store that I was going to buy because I couldn't find them. when we're at the check out counter, he asks me if he can look inside my bag to make I sure I didn't steal anything. I ask him if he is serious. he says yes. I kindly tell him that yes he can check my bag, but that once he does he will lose a customer because I don't support businesses that racially profile customers. he says he's not racist and then proceeds to tell me stories about people stealing. I assure him I'm not a thief and that I don't care about his reasoning. if he has an issue with customers coming into the store with bags (I had 1) he should ask everyone (not only Black customers) to leave their bag at the counter while shopping. I would have left my bag at the counter without a problem if he had asked. but, again, I let him know he has my permission to look inside my bag. but that once he did, he would lose a customer. he did check my bag and got a look at my takeout box from the Korean fried chicken spot. What I was gonna buy at Nature's grocery story that evening I left on the counter and I haven't been back since. during my interaction with the cashier, a white woman walked in and shopped.q I imagine that she had no problems not if every customer is not asked to show their bags or leave their bag at the counter, it's a shame because its a block or so away from my apartment and I love the idea of supporting a mom and pop's business, but I don't support racial profiling. it happened to me, so I know other Black people have gone through it at Nature's and it's unacceptable. read more

I bought some banana, a lemonade, 2 onions, 1 laughing cow cheese and the bill came out at $18. The lemonade was $6 when you can get it at lucky for $3.80, the laughing cow cheese was $5.50 when you can get it at grocery outlet for about a dollar. God know how much they charged me for the 2 onions and 8 bananas. It rediculously expensive here, if it wasn't for the street cleaning, I would take my car to trader Joe or lucky. read more

This place is around the corner from the all female tattoo shop I go to but there's always weird guys hanging around outside even though they lock the door so instead of waiting for my uber at the shop I went to, I walk down two blocks or so to Nature's Best Foods and buy some treats with a higher convenience mark-up than I'd like but a much less dodgy area to wait for an uber. It looks tiny from the outside, and its def a small place, but it does expand a bit inside and they do a lot with the little space. Is it ADA compliant? Absolutely not. At least not by the snack and canned goods labrynth, but they sell the sloppy joe mix I like and they have beyond burgers here (though they're priced 30% higher than if you went to Safeway or Whole Foods). They have a great tea and cold beverage selection and always have full bins of fruit but it all kind of seems like fruit that you need to eat right then and there and I don't live nearby so I tend to stay away from their "fresh" items. The shop is always getting some sort of delivery and has a real cute neighborhood vibe. I like the people who run the shop and every time I've been here I've seen some pretty cute guys that I know I'm better off without. read more

Way overpriced and very misleading prices. There's almost no signage in the produce area of how much things cost and somehow everything costs $6.99 or up. I recently went and bought a jar of mayo and the stickers had varying prices on them from $5.99 to $6.99. And when I went to check out the register rang up as $8.99. Idk what's going on here but if you're not paying attention at check out you'll have a bill for $90 for about 7 food items. I guess it makes sense if you're in a pinch and need something quick, but it's definitely not worth doing majority of your shopping here. read more

Lots of selection but extremely overpriced. Many items are double or more than double of what I pay in larger stores. I go here for maybe one item if I want a pint of ice cream or some coffee beans because I'm a block away. Even then, paying $7.00 for a pint of ben and jerry's is rough. I definitely am not one for the frou-frou overpriced natural food spots. I live for a reasonable bulk food section and know exactly where to find it, thankyouverymuch, so I refuse to be swayed by all of these random lil' spots that try to take my hard-earned coins at what I feel is an exorbitant rate. HOWEVER, for Nature's Best, I'll pay the surcharge. Partly because the boys behind the counter treat me so good but also because Yousef's Quinoa & Black Bean Salad (which I once warned one of the gents I would promptly return if I didn't like... Never happened!) has become gold to me and this is sometimes the only place I can find in the area with a decent selection of something to grab that won't devastate my stomach and health, I have become a frequent flyer. No, I usually can't find a park but I make it work because that's what real women do. Duh. Oh, and reasonably priced avocados. Love y'all! read more

This cross between a corner convenience store and a gourmet health food store always amazes me. There is a small front room with bulk items, organic produce, and organic, gluten-free or vegan fridge/freezer items, and then an equally small back room with imported or organic canned and boxed goods. However, they've managed to optimize the space in some magical way. I find myself thinking over and over, "Wow, they have THAT? And THAT?" As a case in point, I was preparing a recipe that called for champagne vinegar. Not regular vinegar or balsamic vinegar, but champagne. Lo and behold, they had it. I sometimes feel like I can think of almost any unusual, hard-to-locate food item and it will spontaneously appear on their shelves. However, this is NOT the place to shop for cheap TV dinners and snacks, and they also don't carry alcohol. read more

For fans of Dr. Who, the architecture of this store is like that of the Tardis: From the outside, it looks as if barely more than one customer at a time could fit inside a store that couldn't possibly stock more than half of a typical 7-11; but, when you walk inside, you discover it's many, many times larger inside than outside and every square inch of the store is utilized to the fullest so that the variety and range of fresh, chilled, frozen, dried, organic and non-organic foods variety is astonishing. The family who ran this store are delightful - helpful & friendly. This is the kind of store that you might enter to get a quart of milk and leave with cartload of quality food items and in a much better frame of mind than when you first entered. I love Nature's Best Foods. They have a good selection of basic organic produce. They don't have the widest variety of produce, but this little neighborhood market has everything you need. However, no alcohol here. This place can be a little pricey when it comes to select items, but overall it's surprisingly economical. They have specials all the time and you can buy a lot of items in bulk. My rationality behind 5 stars is because it saves me a lot of time and money from lugging to a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's in my car all the time. Nature's Best is just around the corner from me and I have never seen a corner market utilize such a small space so well. read more

It's what you'd expect from a tiny natural-foods store in the middle of a neighborhood that doesn't seem like it wants a natural-foods store--even though it might need one, or six. The prices are steep, especially for Oakland, but they're not that bad. Maybe somewhere between airport prices and Whole Paycheck prices. Definitely not as bad as Andronico's prices. The selection could be better, but I think they actually stock what people want, and I don't live in the neighborhood, so I can't criticize them for staying in business any honest way they can. They have a ton of bulk foods. The place feels kind of like a bomb shelter, or an LDS apocalypse shelter. They don't have homing pigeons, but that just might be a Greers-who-used-to-live-up-the-street thing. The people who work here are nice and very smiley and were probably making fun of me the entire time. I don't know now, and I didn't care then either. The peanut butter and bread I bought were fine. Three stars all the way, except it loses a star for its complete and utter wheelchair inaccessibility. read more

This place could benefit from some constructive criticism--and I don't have the balls to say it to the owner's face, so I guess I'll put it here. It's close and convenient, and it's a small space--they've done wonders with it. Most of what you need you can get here in some form. But I have to say ... when a shop says that they have "nature's best" and more than half the foods aren't organic, it's a little disappointing. Also disappointing: spoiled fruit on shelves. Mold on strawberries, squishy nectarines. You really have to watch out what you buy here. Some refrigerated/frozen items I've bought are spoiled before I open them, or it's clear they melted at some point, which probably means they were left out too long before being stocked (the atmosphere there may be a little too relaxed!). Still, I love supporting a local business that takes my American Express card with a reasonable $5 minimum. And the organic half-and-half I buy there for my coffee never lets me down! Before Nature's Best, when I was too lazy to get in the car, my food options consisted of the sketchy liquor store's snack section (slim jim's and steel reserve anyone?), and the gross convenience market specializing in dented cans and brand names popular in Eastern Europe. Not naming names, but I'm pretty sure their wholesale comes from Laney flea market. Anyhoo, now my lazy ass has fake meat and fresh produce practically at arms length! I don't know how they fit so much in this little store -- organic produce, tons of spices, fresh to-go lunches, breads, ice cream, soups, great frozen meals, bulk foods, awesome snacks. You know how sometimes you go to a club and feel like you're the DJ because they're playing all your fave songs? Nature's Best dropped out of the sky and into my heart -- or maybe more accurately, my stomach. I was stunned that a grocery store opened up barely two blocks from my apartment that sold fresh organic produce and a wide variety of other necessities. It makes sense for them to be there, though, considering the condos that may someday (?) open up on the corner of 14th and Jackson will probably bring a whole new base of well-off customers. Their selection, though it varies, is excellent considering the store's size, and they make an effort to stock customer requests. Plenty of fresh organic fruits and veggies, lots of different organic "convenience foods" and frozen meats, a pretty good dairy case with sandwiches and other quick foods as well as the seemingly now ubiquitous Suruki's sushi. One of my co-workers pretty regularly walks here on breaks from our office on 12th and Broadway, because you can't get organic food anywhere closer than that. Last but not least, Abdul is probably the friendliest grocery store employee I've ever met. On edit: Abdul isn't there anymore, but I still love this place. They have found a way to get more stuff in there. Buy their produce so they keep stocking it so it's there when I go in! They have some bulk food now (lots of granola), many different healthy-style snack chips, lots of kinds of yogurt... I don't know, it's a grocery store. This time of year they have these ziploc bags of the best raisins I've ever eaten. If you're within six blocks it's totally worth stopping here first to see if they have what you want. I give four stars with the caveat that they are pricey. However, in terms of how much priceier they are than a larger grocery market is probably on the same order of magnitude as any convenience store, but they sell way better stuff! It's basically the conveniece store sized version of a Whole Foods. All those hippie brands of organic food and toiletries abound. They do have beautiful produce as well, just not a huge variety given size constraints. I will warn that you should pay close attention when they ring up your purchase, as sometimes the prices on the shelf aren't programmed to match the cash register, but they're nice about changing it, and even let me come back with change when I was a little short! read more

I visit this health food corner store about 2-3 times a week, so I know how great this store is for my neighborhood. There is always consistent, fresh organic produce in stock. They have great specials every week and while some items will be pricier than say WFM, remember its a little family owned grocery. Their bulk food selection is awesome and they keep the shelves well stocked. If you don't see an item in stock, they have a sheet that allows regulars to suggest specific items for them to carry. A group of young men are usually manning the registers and they are very helpful and courteous. Also keep in mind that the store is Halal observant, so if your looking for pork products or alcohol, check out the liquor store down the block. I am more then thankful I have a convenient health food store less then a block away! Saves me gas and an annoyingly long wait in line at Whole Foods. read more

There are no other decent food stores in walking distance, and this place is open until 10 p.m. It looks tiny from the front, but is surprisingly large with a good variety of healthy foods. I see a few people have complained about their prices. A little perspective people -- it's a convenience store. Their business is about selling smaller quantities of product. BEST CORNER STORE EVER!! I moved to the neighborhood at the end of last year, and I am SO glad that this place is one minute walk distance from my apartment. I am vegan, so normal corner stores are pretty useless for me. I love how they have a great selection of organic and non organic produce options AND plenty vegan meat (and smoked salmon!), dairy (not that I care for most brands) and snacks. My favorite thing about the place is probably the "wish list". If you want them to carry something, you can simply put it down and they will try to make it happen! Because I have no car, and because it's around the corner, and because it's so cute and like a mini Whole Foods, I come to Nature's Best Foods at least three times per week. They've got organic produce, a great dry bulk food section, fresh bread, natural toiletries and cleaning supplies and much more. It is a bit spendy. But it's much better than walking around the lake to Albertson's. And it's an independently owned store, which I always feel good about supporting. read more
