Second: the food is served from a buffet (although, they do have items that you can request from a menu, the majority of the food is served from the buffet). When I went to eat there, I saw people "sampling" the buffet items with their hands!!! If that wasn't bad enough, the food trays are not being attended, so you may pass trays with food that's been there for quite a while (looking anything but appetizing), or they may be empty. The waitstaff are overworked or uninterested because it was next to impossible to get anyone's attention for a soda.. The only thing I can say in Mangai's favor is that it does look charming--so go and look, then eat someplace else.

The atmosphere here continues to be romantic and idyllic: with a view of the beautiful Ponta Negra Beach in Natal and the famous Morro do Careca ("Bald Hill") in the distance. The food is very nicely plated, and while the seasoning was okay this time, it was still a little unbalanced. I really enjoyed the Sorrentinos (Argentinian version of ravioli) the last time, and while the presentation was very attractive, the sauce had too much lime. I ordered the commemorative dish (Prato da Boa Lembrança) because I collect these plates. It consisted of shredded dried beef with fried curd cheese (queijo coalho) served on a bed of refried black-eyed peas (which had a very bitter taste). Visually, it was striking, but the taste missed the mark. I was happy to have celebrated my birthday having lunch here, but, while the food is not as good as they think it is, it is still worth a visit.

There's…read morea lot of signage around the city directing you to this restaurant so if your taxi driver isn't familiar with it, just follow the signs! First off the building is quite amazing. It's got a big metal tree-like netting on the outside, with industrial cement block outside and a cool running fountain underneath, and large open dining room windows. The inside has deep wood paneling with a curtain of heavy white anchor rope to separate the dining from the reception. It takes two servers to hug the ropes to let you through. The food was amazing but huge family portion style so make sure you share or get a half portion size. We tried the garlic shrimp and the beef dishes which were both quite amazing. Atmosphere, food and service makes this place a winning combination. One thing that was annoying was the family table that let their kids run all over the restaurant, screaming and bumping into servers, which seems to be a disaster waiting to happen. It put a damper on the experience.
