Everything on the menu sounded amazing and I decided to get the BLT on Focaccia. I was disappointed with the sandwich. For the price I was expecting a large, lush, fresh sandwich but instead it was the opposite. The bread was hard and not as soft and chewy like it should be. The bacon came straight from a container; wasn't heated up, just added cold to the sandwich and all the arugula leaves had tiny holes, which didnt make me confident it was stored safely or even cleaned properly; i took it off before eating the sandwich, which tasted very basic. I would definitely try something else to see if it's any better but I was disappointed with the product i received compared to the price.

I have had their Bacon, egg, and cheese on a biscuit and it was excellent. The biscuit was flaky and is just as good as the ones I've had in South Carolina. I also really like their smoked salmon on an everything bagel croissant sandwich. The service is amazing. They are kind, helpful, and it has a very homey vibe. Paying with Venmo is different, but not a big deal, and by the second time I went there, it was just second nature. I would recommend this place to anyone, and plan to go over and over while I live in Arverne.

Locals Collective is such a sweet l'il cafe. The vibe is relaxed and lovely, with friendly, helpful staff (especially the woman wearing the ramen cat shirt, whose name I didn't get, unfortunately). The menu is small, but includes some healthy options like the breakfast sammy (with two eggs, avocado, sprouts, tomato, Monterey Jack cheese, and spicy aioli on whole grain toast), acai bowls, wraps, overnight oats and that sort of thing. The breakfast sandwich wasn't very big -- or rather it was a normal size, well filled, but made with commercially standard-size sliced bread, not a hero, sub, or roll -- and was perhaps a touch spendy at $12. The Progeny inhaled the sandwich after snarfing down a sushi roll we'd brought -- and still wanted two large protein bars, after. (I guess surfing cultivates a good appetite.) He said he enjoyed it, though. My iced coffee was a touch weak, but serviceable. There's pleasant seating indoors and out, with a few folks working on laptops. There are quite a few dining options on this particular block, including burritos, pizza, ice cream, and a few full-service restaurants -- but in terms of aesthetics and overall look-feel, Locals Collective takes the win. Surf boards (I think soft tops only) are available for rent at Locals Collective, for $35 / 2 hours. Prices are a bit higher than at Breakwater Surf, which rents for a jaw droppingly low price of $5 an hour -- but Locals does offer additional amenities like changing rooms and a shower, which I'm prima-donna enough to think is worth it. You can also rent a wet suit, which you'll probably want if the air temp is anything cooler than 75F. Waves at Beach 68 are fairly small, but reportedly consistent. We'll be back for more, I'm sure.

If you're riding out in the Rockaways, do yourself a favor and stop at Cardinal Bakery & Cafe. This is my go-to refuel spot--every single time. The baked goods are unreal. Fresh, rich, and exactly what you want when you've been putting in miles. And the coffee? Perfect. That one cup just hits different when you've earned it. There's something about this place--it's got that warm, local feel where you can actually slow down for a minute, reset, and then get back out there. I have lived in Rockaway for 40 years and this is THE BEST PLACE TO EAT on the Peninsula. If you live, work, or visit and don't try one of their sandwiches or delicious desserts -you're crazy! The people are friendly, the food is excellent, and the price is right! read more

I see the owners son from the videos on the phone taking orders and I'm assuming his mom behind the counter. I ask if its ok to take two struffoli baskets but I spy with my little eye Sfogliatelle. I order a few cannoli as well as a Large Sfogliatelle to go. I jump in my jeep and I'm so excited to bring everything home. Except that Sfogliatelle was calling me. I'm on the Long Island Expressway and I ripped that box open like a fiend! OMG, that Sfogliatelle was soooo good! It was very fresh and I was covered with flaky layers. Beef patty: 4.5 stars - Here is the thing with this one - it is not a traditional beef patty as the ones they make at multiple shops in that area. This patty is more like a soft fluffy bread pastry with a mild beef filling. It tastes so surprisingly good that we got two more to go. Banana pudding: 3.5 stars - It is frozen and we needed to wait for it to thaw out but once it did - it was so unusual as they use pieces of their vanilla spongecake with the pudding. You get a lot of vanilla flavor and perhaps not enough banana so when we got home, we cut up pieces of banana and added it in. I like a lot of creamy pudding though and the cake kinda soaked it up. Customer service: 5 stars all day long We would always go back and look forward to going again.
