It's definitely a hidden gem in Bed-Stuy! Their cupcakes and cakes are baked to perfection. I was excited to try the Hummingbird cake, it was flavorful, rich, and packed with nuts. I also ordered the Blue Velvet because my son asked for it, and the Red Velvet cake for my daughter. Both cakes were packed with flavor and delicious ingredients. The cake was super pink and was drowned in glitter sparkles - I mean I am a girl who loves sparkles, but the decoration could be a bit gaudy. It's a big open space with slices and cakes on display. If you don't see what you would like, ask, they might have it in the back. I tried the red velvet - it was very soft and moist. Probably one of the best. The cream cheese was not too heavy. It was a great red velvet. It was definitely pricey, $10 for a slice. We were planning on getting a cake, but it would have been $70, and we had never tried it before. The banana pudding was also on point, not too sweet and got a reasonable portion for $6. The strawberry remix (throwback to the good humor strawberry shortcake ice cream) had two layers of strawberry cake and one layer of vanilla with some cookie crumble. Also $10. For my husband's 65th birthday on December 18, 2024 I ordered a Red Velvet sheet cake to feed 100 people. It was moist and delicious and we had more than enough for everyone. My son is a firefighter and he gets all of the cakes for his firehouse from this place. Anytime I have guests I purchase my cakes from here. However, most times I just purchase a variety of slices since I can't decide on one particular flavor. The prices are competitive and the service is great. You can email them your order and it will be ready when you arrive as long as you send it three days in advance. Even if you don't order in advance they always have a HUGE supply of freshly baked cakes and cake slices. Although I have never ordered a specialty cake with fondue icing they do them. They have made many cakes for celebrities that are gorgeous. Bottom line, whichever way you decide to go with ordering a cake, traditional or specialty, you won't be disappointed. I've been meaning to go to DOC D's for quite some time. I like cake but I love cookies so I guess that was why I didn't rush, but guess who's gonna order birthday cakes from this location going forward? YUUUUPPPP!!!! The cake was light, moist, and flavorful. From the time I walked in the shop, butter was the essence, le parfum... and it was AWESOME... now back to the cake. The frosting was equally light and flavorful, and probably the best frosting that I've had in a very long time. Most frosting is thick and heavy. Well, somebody over at DOC whipped the hell out of this frosting to the point it was light and airy and I like that. So far, I've tasted two out of three flavors. Which is another thing, there are so many flavors to choose from in addition to puddings and cheesecake. Unbeknownst to me and because I'm indecisive, I ordered two slices of cake and received a bonus slice due to a point system that I have to figure out. I don't think that it's something difficult. I just haven't had the time to read because life is lifeing and it's the best thing ever that I am writing this review a day later. GO TO DOC D's!!!! I promise that you will be happy. P.S. Was working at an event at the Brooklyn Navy yard. Doc's was at the event and I bought a strawberry cheesecake as well as a peach cobbler and Oreo banana bread pudding. Everything I bought was outstanding. The cheesecake barely made it back to Long Island since I kept eating it. My girlfriend also loved the Oreo banana bread pudding. I came here yesterday to get some cake and it was really good. I ordered the red and blue velvet cake. My niece ordered the banana pudding and my sister ordered the strawberry cake. First the staff is amazing very patient and helpful. It was my first time there and I didn't know what to order. Now to the cake. I really enjoyed my blue and red velvet. I ordered it without nuts. I really enjoyed the red velvet part of the cake. I didn't really like the blue velvet part. I would have ordered the red velvet next time; I return. I also tried the banana pudding and that was really good; the texture of the cookies in it was great. There were parts of the cookie which were crunchy and that added a nice bite to the pudding. My sister's strawberry crunch cake was really good. The cake was half strawberry and half vanilla. I liked her strawberry cake which was really good; it reminded me of a home cooked cake. After waiting over TWO hours for a scheduled delivery, it was nearly impossible to get through calling to this place to get any kind of update. By the time I finally got a hold of someone, I was just simply told my driver was another half hour away. I'm a 47 minute drive away from here, and was assured that the distance wasn't too far originally for the delivery. Was the cupcakes delivered tasty? Yes. Was the hummingbird 8in cake worth $75? Yes. Are the extra fees justified due to distance? Not $50 worth. Despite the tastiness, the delivery is unreliable and communication updates were non-existent. This is 6 years overdue, I didn't realize it got stuck in drafts!! My first experience at Doc's was above and beyond anything I could've expected. My homegirl and I rolled up and our hearts and stomachs sank when we realized that they were in the middle of renovations. But homegirl wasn't gonna let that stop her from completing the mission. She hopped out and peaked in the door and explained our dilemma to Chris. We haaad to have red velvet cake. Earlier that day, homegirl and I were struuuggling to carry in some extremely heavy bamboo fencing from the street to my backyard, and two of my neighbors jumped in to lend a helping hand. How could we ever repay them (in a PG-rated way)? The answer was CAKE. So we drove all over seeking out the best red velvet cake in Brooklyn, but by the time we found Doc's it was almost 8pm and I needed to return my Zipcar by 8:30p. Doc overheard all of this and made it happen. I (so sadly) can't speak from experience eating the red velvet cake, as I'm vegan AF and also happen to have celiac disease. But based on the vivid description I forced my friend to give me as she slowly savored a piece, it's the greatest red velvet cake you'll ever have the privilege of stuffing into your face. The flavor of the cake is on point, the cream cheese frosting is melt in your mouth perfection, and the texture is moist yet fluffy. From the rewards program, to the patience of the people behind the counter who kindly answer my questions about frosting flavors each visit. The quality of the cake is bar none. Obsessed!!!! I've had a lot of cake and this was by far the best Red Velvet slice I've ever had in life. The moistness of the cake, not too sweet but the right amount of sweetness of the icing and the crunch of the nuts was just perfection. In addition I tried the Peach Cob and she was BOMB! Visited Doc'D's for the first time as a part of the Taste of Bedstuy crawl. My girls and I had already sampled items from four other venues and wanted to leave desert as our last stop. Chose this venue based on reviews on other platforms. The line inside and outside plus the double parked cars let us know they were doing something right. Once inside, we were given an option of the red velvet cupcake or vanilla. I chose red velvet and also got a slice of blue velvet to go. The cupcake was super moist and had the right amount of flavor- not too overwhelming. The cream cheese icing wasn't too rich. I was able to enjoy it without scraping off any of it ( what I usually do when most people make it and pack too much on top of the cupcake). Back at home, a couple hours later I had the blue velvet. The cake was smooth and the icing was just right. I have no complaints. The owner (Chris) was super friendly and encouraged us to come back another time. I sure will for research purposes. Can't deny that this is some of the moistest, spongiest came out their. Yes the flavors are very simple but the flavor profile is definitely their giving you a strong punch in the tastebuds. Unfortunately it is quickly muddled after a couple of bites by all the sugar. The sugar is 100% cavity inducing but if you take of the most to all of the frosting the cake is slightly less sugary. The red velvet banana pudding was so good, I almost wish I had gotten another container for another time. There were a lot of people in there so I know it must be good. A woman ahead of me was picking up a beautiful birthday cake. Anastasia was helping me at the counter and she was so kind and helpful. She said to try the pound cake so I got a slice of that as well.
