Got the "Feed Me", cause i was hungry. Really liked the interior and vibes of the restaurant, but bar seating was cramped and uncomfortable. Service was extremely attentive and quick. Really good vegan spot, would reccomend. Scrumptious Rice Cake: A great start! The rice cake had a unique texture. Almost custard-like, but with a more solid structure. The radish had a great bite, but was a bit over-marinated in soy sauce. Cucur Sayur: Light and crisp fried bites. The red pepper sauce brightened up the fritters by adding a hint of sweetness. Char Siu Bao: A well-excuted vegan dish. The seitan is really meaty, albeit lacking some of the chew of pork. Wouldve enjoyed it more if they went a bit lighter on the scallion mayo. Acar Kale Salad: A refreshing, acidic, and slightly sweet salad. Really enjoyed this one. Shroom Braise: A dish that should be delicious in theory, but falters in execution. The plating is a bit too small, the sauce a tad too salty, the mushrooms a bit rubbery. The dish also needed something to break up the strong umami present in each bite. read more

They even started offering a six-course tasting menu ($55 per person) allowing the table to sample 60% of their offerings. It started with some scrumptious cakes ($14; normally 4 to an order), a soft steamed rice cake topped with finely chopped preserved radish. Much silkier than radish cake, it's a cross between that and silken tofu. And while the sweet and salty radish relish was a good start, the dish needed something else (maybe scallions or fried shallots) and more of their famous sambal as I couldn't taste a lick of heat. One dish that stood the test of time is the dhal and roti ($14), a deeply flavoured yellow lentil curry topped with onion chili oil. Yet, it's the flaky Malay roti that really makes the dish - piping hot and well toasted with crispy edges. I could eat this with a dip, as a wrap, or stuffed. If dining a la carte, it may be wise to order some of the roti with the satay veg ($19), to dip into the thick savoury peanut sauce but also to counteract the saltiness of the dish. Served without a side, the vegetables didn't need so much seasoning, especially the rapini which almost seemed like it was marinated in salt water. It'd be wise for Fat Choi to serve this with rice. Plenty of slices of "barbeque pork" seitan are tucked into a fluffy steamed bun to create the char siu bao ($19). It's tasty, sandwiched with a large slice of pickled daikon, leaf lettuce, and scallion mayo. We all agreed something has changed with the prosperity tossed slaw ($24). It's still made with twenty ingredients that create a cacophony of textures, but the ratio of the ingredients has changed - more cabbage and radish and less herbs? Perhaps it just wasn't dressed with enough of the yuzu plum dressing and way too many peanuts, but the salad just didn't pack that punch of flavour of the past. The same can't be said about the cumin noods ($26). If you're a fan of Northern Chinese dishes like dan dan noodles, grilled lamb skewers and hand-pulled noodles, the dish is the baby born from the trio. But you must like cumin as there's tons of it! Crumbled tofu was flavoured with the spice, a light helping of numbing Szechuan pepper (thank you!), chili oil, and Chinese vinegar to create a spicy and savoury concoction. The flat ribbons of noodles had a lovely springy texture and could hold up against the sauce. Make sure to get a bite with the crunchy celery, scallions, and micro greens as they help balance out the cumin. read more

We tried the Feed Me option, which was an insane amount of food. I rarely eat vegan, but if you're looking for a vegan spot, I highly recommend this place. There were so many different dishes that came out each with its own unique flavor, texture and taste. It was a Friday night so the energy was really good and our server was very informative of each dish that came out. My personal favourite was actually the first that came out; rice cakes, so if you don't do the Feed Me option, I would recommend this appetizer. We went to celebrate my friends birthday, and she said it was amazing. It can be easy to miss because there's no big sign outside, but it is very inviting, and seems like it was packed all night. read more

I've heard great things about this place so wanted to give the vegetarian tasting menu a try. Its a 6 course menu that gives you a variety of items from the menu, you can even request certain items if you really wanted to try an item on the reg menu. We requested the salad and the dal dish. All 6 dishes we had were good but I would say all the apps that we were given were by far the best! Rather than having 6 savory dishes I would've loved to see the 6th and final dish to be a dessert because at the point of the 5th we were so stuffed we had to take the last one home but as they say there's always room for dessert. Service was good, staff came by to check on you and would explain each dish as they dropped it off. The place is a little small but def recommend getting a reso because theyre so busy! read more

Loved the tasting menu! After trying many tasting menus that were good but sometimes end up feeling expensive for the selection and taste, this we felt was good value for money and tasted great! Some of the best vegan tasting menus for me. Servers were attentive. They answered several questions I had regarding the food. They are a permanent vegan pop-up inside soos. Their plant based/vegan menu is lovely. Everything we tried was very good, including the cocktails. It has a bit of a higher end feel, if that's what you are looking for. But you don't need to dress up or anything. In the summer they usually participate in the cafe TO program so should have a street patio (if/when the city gets around to approving it). read more

Wow wow wow!!! I shared 3 dishes with my friend and we were blown away by how flavourful everything was. The plates were small but we felt satisfied after the meal. Good value for the food quality. My favourite meal of my entire Toronto trip (and possibly my favourite vegan restaurant thus far). All the food was 5 stars and none of them disappointed. The roti and dahl was perfect to start us off. The roti was flaky and the dahl was nicely seasoned. The crispy mushrooms had a nice chewy texture and a nice dip on the side. The red chili broccoli/cauliflower was flavourful with a mild hint of spice and the batter was crispy. The char kway teow might have been my favourite as the faux meat was smoky and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Portions are a little small considering the price but considering the quality and taste of the food I'd say it's worth it. They change up their menu so I don't think they have some of these items anymore but I'm pretty sure whatever you get it's gonna be good :) read more

I have dined here twice and both times have been out of this world amazing. Food is unbelievably delicious, and thoughtfully prepared with vegetables in mind. Each time I dined here we had the feed me tasting menu, I counted 7 courses for $55pp. the portions are healthy and I really do think you get the value. It's so with being able to try so much of the menu at a spot like this. Service is incredible, they always give great recommendations . Cocktails are scrumptious. Truly truly love this spot and can't wait to come back. A gem in the city, I wish more people talked about it! Restaurant ambiance is lovely as well, beautiful interior and thoughtful seating. I have been to Fat Choi five times since they've begun service and I have yet to have anything but exceptional experiences. The food is consistently perfect and the service is excellent, even when the restaurant is packed. The most recent visit was last night (8/13/19). I won't give a suggestion on what to order other than to urge you to go with the "feed me" option if you are a group of two or more. Absolutely the best way to experience Fat Choi. If you are uncomfortable with giving over control of your food choices to someone else, I highly suggest you get familiar with your stove at home. What a treat! I've had my eye on Soos for some time but have never visited for lack of veggie options and then they went and started a whole veg-friendly menu! Those reading this might be like, "Wait, why is she talking about Soos in a review for Fat Choi?" Well guys its because Fat Choi is a plant based "pop-up" operating in the same space and by the same owners, as Soos. For now, its open Mondays and Tuesdays for dinner, with Soos dominating the space the rest of the week. The hope is that if its successful enough, Fat Choi will move into its very own home soon, and based on my meal there recently, I think they're going to be able to do it. The place was full for a Tuesday, and our party of six (a mix of vegans, vegetarians, and meat-eaters) all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We opted to go for the "family style" meal, with a selection of Fat Choi faves sent out in waves. I love this set-up because every course is a surprise, but sometimes you end up with a course or two that you're not that into. Not so with Fat Choi. Everything that came out was delicious, and with enough variation to not get tired of any given flavour. Top picks for me were probably the okonomiyaki (savoury pancake with a heap o' yummy toppings), the FC tortellini, the cold tofu, and the stuffed roti. read more

This was one of the best restaurant meals I've had in ages...and I eat in restaurants a lot! Even though my husband isn't vegan, we ordered off of the plant-based menu and he loved every single bite and never felt like anything was "missing". I think we may have sounded a bit like that scene from When Harry Meets Sally because everything was bursting with flavour, just the right amount of heat and each dish was presented like a work of art! Prices are right in line with portion size, too. Each dish is perfect for two people to share and 3-4 are all you need for a dinner. I highly recommend this to anyone, plant-based or not, who is looking for a truly fantastic meal that you'll be thinking about long after it's done. read more
