10/10 vegan food. Gia is serving perfectly executed, flavorful classic Italian dishes that are better than any we've had in a long time. Rather than relying on excessive oil or salt to bring flavor, they lean on high-quality and fresh ingredients that make each dish unforgettable. We wanted a lighter meal, so we shared the rigatoni bolognese as well as the Ontario broccolini and the Ontario cauliflower. All three of these dishes were incredible. We didn't even have the chance to try the homemade focaccia or the dessert, but we cannot wait to return. read more

Super fabulous time at GIA! Gorgeous location, ambiance, lovely sized menu, and great cocktails. This place is for sure on the more expensive side, with 4 people coming in after tip at around $350. This place fell in two areas: 1. They never asked about special occasions, celebrations, etc. for a nicer spot I thought this would be asked in the reservation, when joining the table. Etc. 2. The mains were hit and miss - the eggplant parm was randomly spicy and not salty enough, but the mushroom truffle pasta was a huge hit! Been coming to Gia for a while! This was my 4th visit - it was delightful as usual but I fear the extremely high standard of food has dropped ever so slightly. This is still one of my favourite places. Highly recommend the meatballs. The baby gem salad is also to die for...I'm trying to recreate it at home and it just can never beat the real thing. Really disappointed in the quality of food that we got at this restaurant it was rated Michelin appointed and we came here for my friends birthday. Given that she's vegetarian, we figured we could share everything on the menu and that way we weren't stuck with just our own meals to try and got to get a little bit of everything. Well, I love the concept of vegan Italian food. It's definitely not something that I would ever try again. I found the taste not palatable and Italian is my favourite cuisine. One of the dishes tasted like hotdog pasta. The pistachio cake was really dry and needed more moist for it to be edible. We sat right beside the kitchen, which made it extremely hot in an area where there was no air-conditioning or moving air. What was even more of an inconvenience for me was at the floor, where I was seated, had a warp in it and so anytime someone walked over it. It would move my chair and make me feel uncomfortable. The individual serving us told us she would give us a free dessert to compensate for our experience however, when the bill came, we were charged for both and we didn't complain. read more

The restaurant was pretty empty on a Friday afternoon. It's a cute spot, with a nice bar. They brought out our food within minutes of ordering. We got the burrata and the white truffle agnolotti. Both dishes were good. The agnolotti was a little salty but we demolished it within 12 mins. I would definitely go back to try more dishes. read more

Came here on a whim with my friend as we wanted something vegetarian so didn't have any expectations. Honestly, the food was ok and ambiance was cute. I'm very hard to please with service and the service here wasn't anything standout. We got a few dishes to share and portions were decent. Brussel sprouts (0/5): not sure what was going on with these but the vinaigrette didn't pair well and it was sour and a bit spicy. We had a hard time finishing these Meatballs (4.5/5): pretty good meatballs, they had a nice crust on the outside and flavour was good. However, they were meatballs with tomato sauce so it's not something to rave about. Wish they gave us something to dip the leftover sauce with Agnolotti (4/5): liked this dish a lot, but I pretty much like anything with truffle. We popped in on a Friday night (had a reservation) and it was much quieter then I remembered but this could be because we sat at the bar- where as last time we sat towards the back. The drinks on their cocktail list are delicious- the strawberry aperol spritz was definitely my favourite! The others were quite strong. My boyfriend isn't a vegetarian so he missed a little taste of meat in his pasta, but we did get the meatballs which he added in and enjoyed. The Maitake mushrooms were amazing, and quite large of a serving. Truthfully- we didn't find their dessert dishes that great, but presentation and service made up for it and we would definitely be back again! read more

I am plant-based and love to support plant -based restaurants when I travel. I was sadly and unfortunately pretty disappointed by the meal we had at Gia. The little gem salad was the one stand out among four dishes. Great flavors and textures. Sadly, the pasta was actually bad. The dough was gummy, the filling was flavorless, and strangely the red sauce was also bland/flavorless. I've had better sauces from a jar. We also did not love our vegan meatball starter, or mushroom steak. Both were fine, but lacking flavor and definitely not too interesting. Such a bummer - I think the chef may need to taste some more of the food before it goes out to the customers? The service and ambience were nice. The food at Gia is delicious! We came for a friends birthday and we're pleasantly surprised with how well prepared their dishes were. Very generous portions with the olives as apps; pastas were flavourful, especially the porcini agnolotti; and the parmigiana di melanzane was well made. The focaccia was a bit too salty and overpowering with rosemary, and the cocktails were very similar to drinks I've had at Luma and not unique. Although the service was friendly, the waitress cleared our plate of focaccia before we were finished with it, instead of asking us if she take it away. My partner and I frequently travel to Toronto for their incredible vegan food scene, a few months ago we went to GIA for brunch and the food was incredible but we were so excited to come back and try their dinner menu. The atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant is amazing, great music, beautiful lighting with gorgeous & comfortable furnishings. Definitely a great date night spot. The service was wonderful, our server was very kind, attentive and super helpful. For appetizers we had the focaccia bread served with a delicious maple butter and the Brie which was phenomenal and I've never seen or tried a plant based Brie! For entrees we had the rigatoni bolognese, risotto Milanese, and the lions mane bistecca which were all fantastic. The lions mane bistecca was by far my favorite dish. They have the BEST mock-tail I've ever tried, gettin' figgy with it! I would absolutely recommend giving GIA a try, I cannot wait to come back! read more

Fun, sexy vibes...but not perfect. First, we got a pretty cold greeting. We walked up to the host stand but nobody was there. So I turned around and chatted with my friend when, apparently, a masked person approached from behind and said "Hello" -- but neither of us heard or noticed. Suddenly we hear a loud, rude "HELLO!" I whipped around and my Canadian knee-jerk reaction was to smile and apologize to her...but upon being seated, my friend and I were both rubbed the wrong way. It certainly didn't feel very welcoming. There were no paper menus so we both had to stare at our phones for a bit to peruse the offerings. The porcini mushroom agnolotti was, admittedly, heaven on a plate. But the broad noodle pasta with peas and mint sucked, it was too dry. Cocktails were average. Honestly, it was okay overall, but not nearly as good as another pasta-focused restaurant several blocks east of here, Bar Vendetta, which nails it on every level -- food, cocktails, service and vibe. read more

Doesn't look like much when you walk past it because it's tucked on the west end of Dundas St. I've anticipated since their opening to try out this place as it is a plant based Italian cuisine. I'm on a plant based diet myself so it was wonderful to see more restaurants like this are popping up. I recommend making a reservation as you can't just walk in. Tables filled up so quickly once the restaurant opens at 6pm. They tend to be fully booked up on weekends so be sure to get yourself a table ahead of time. It's a small venue but the atmosphere is very energetic. We had front row seats to the kitchen. It was wonderful to watch the cooks in action. This place is amazing for vegan, Italian food. It definitely doesn't taste or feel vegan to me. The overall atmosphere was really nice. The waitress we had was super friendly and helped us order. Food wise, the stars for me were the two pasta dishes we ordered and shared. The butter mushroom pasta was my personal favourite. It was creamy and delicious. This a great place for vegetarians. We tried the the radish carpaccio, gnocchi, mistake mushrooms, focaccia, and a fig drink. We loved the gnocchi, focaccia and the mushrooms. The radish carpaccio was disappointing. It was thinly sliced radish in olive oil for $17. The olive oil cake was dense and very nice. Great service and a gray place for date night. Warm food served with cold glares. all right, hat's off, you can make a good plant-based risotto. How's about u show some love. You got a staff of six twenty-somethins that don't know hospitality from their hairbrushes. You sit me down forty late and u treat me like a goon. So I order a bit of everything to feel out the whole scene right off da bat. Bit of dis, bit of dat. I like to guzzle some red wine with my meal to curb my temper. Stave off the hanger, u know what I mean? First thing comes through, some saltless olives. I nearly choked on the quality. Dis ain't motherland olives. They were stiff and cold. Put em in a martini, but don't bowl em out like yer doin' me a favour. I took my 3 kids, their 87 year old grandma + new pooch (Obi-one) to Gia this rainy Wednesday evening. They graciously accommodated us on the pooch friendly patio, and served us drinks and bread. The rain picked up, initially annoying but after wine and shifting some tables under the umbrella and some laughs we settled in and committed to a full dinner. This is where the graciousness ended. After sitting and waiting for 25 ish minutes for our order to be taken we were told "We don't think we can serve you because...what if it rains again". Stunned, I paid the bill in full and left. Absolutely stunned at this food! this vegetarian (vegan friendly) place features fresh pasta made in-house that fully blew my mind. Every bite literally melted in my mouth. I think we tried every main (my specific favourite was the newly returned spaghetti funghi with truffle butter) so it's safe to say everything here is incredible. This was our second visit to GIA for the year, we travel from upstate NY to Toronto to get there so that alone should give an indication of the superb experience you will have. The first thing that caught my attention was the cozy and perfectly lit dining room, it feels like you've walked into the private, cooler section of the hottest restaurant in town. There are no uniforms in sight here. The wait staff confidently walk the floor wearing their own choice of fashionable yet sophisticated attire, giving the dining experience less of a Ruby Tuesday, fast casual feel and more of a, I've been invited to a very classy dinner party vibe. The menu has some classic Italian dishes alongside some fresh takes on lesser known ones, the menu did change from the last time we were here which I'm glad to see, it's nice to know they're coming up with new ideas to keep things interesting. We started our meal with the focaccia, baked brie and arancini. The baked brie was out of this world, if this is house made which I think it is then hats off to them because this felt like a product that was refined over years of practice. I also have to mention the pickeled fennel, I did not know I needed that flavor in my life until then. We loved the focaccia and lemon maple butter, not over done with the rosemary. For the mains we had the lions mane steak, risotto and rigatoni bolognese. I've been craving a good steak replacement since the day I switched diets and nothing has hit the spot until we tried GIAs. The texture was perfect, the sear on the steak was beautifully done. It really brought it to the next level as far as steak flavor goes and the demi glace tied it all together, amazing... The rice in the risotto was cooked to al dente, the crispy artichokes gave the right texture balance and as a whole has great flavor. The bolognese was a nice surprise, I wasn't expecting too much as this is a simple dish at heart but the depth of flavor was very nice, a good umami punch. The buckwheat pasta blend was very toothsome and provided additional flavor compared to most pastas that blend in the background. You can tell from the moment you walk in to the last bite that they really take care and attention to insure you are going to have a good meal and a fun time. We dropped in on a Friday night and were lucky to snag a table without a reservation. The atmosphere of this restaurant is fantastic; the lights, decor, and music all make for a very chic experience. Weirdly enough, the table we were given sat 5 people, but we were a party of two. This led to some awkward stares from people who were turned away, since we were seated so close to the door. Nevertheless, it's a beautiful space. The food, however, was extremely disappointing. I had the porcini agnolotti, and while the pasta was cooked perfectly, there was very little flavour aside from butteriness that overpowered the dish. My tablemate ordered the maitake, which was deeply lacking. We are both vegetarian, so we are used to eating vegetables as a main course, but this dish was so unsubstantial! I cannot imagine any adult being satisfied by this as a main course. For what it's worth, the baby gem salad we started with was crunchy, tart, and delicious. Unti Gia considers replacing some of its style with food of actual substance, I will likely not be back. read more

1. The sitting literally 5 feet from the door that kept opening on a cold winter night - not great 2. They messed up the order twice so we were not served at the same time 3. I found a hair in the focaccia - literally cooked into the bread. Response from the waiter "lol, someone forgot to put their hairnet this morning, haha". Also, it looked more like a small loaf of bread then a focaccia, the taste was good though. 4. The size of the risotto (main dish) was the size of a small dessert plate (it looked like a rice pancake) - the taste was there but for 25$, it truly felt like an entrée Not worth the $245 for 3 people.
