Opened in 2011 by chef Jess Murphy and her husband, Dave, Kai has become one of Galway's most celebrated restaurants. While it doesn't have a Michelin star for fine dining, it has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand and Ireland's only Michelin Green Star, recognizing both its outstanding food and commitment to local, sustainable ingredients. What impressed me most wasn't just how delicious everything tasted. Every plate looked like it belonged in an art gallery. We started with the Kelly oysters and Kai's signature Cupla Crab. The crab looked more like a modern sculpture than dinner, and the flavors were every bit as impressive as the presentation. The rainbow carrots may have been the best carrots I've ever eaten. And when a restaurant serves bread as good as Kai's Hapi Bakery loaf with incredible butter, it's easy to fill up before the entrées even arrive. For the mains, Brady's Strip Steak was perfectly charred and incredibly tender, while the signature Black Sole was outstanding. The Andarl pork chop was the only dish that didn't quite reach the same level, as we found it just a touch dry. The oregano potatoes made a hearty side for the table. Dessert finished the evening on a high note. Mum's Pavlova was almost too beautiful to eat, and my Smokey Teeling Whiskey Fudge & Espresso was the perfect ending.

You can tell they take pride in using high-quality ingredients. The menu is short but the options are fantastic. The wait staff were exceptional: friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable without being overbearing. If you're in Galway, I highly recommend going for lunch. The menu is the same as dinner, but the wait is much shorter. You're able to have the same amazing food with a more relaxed experience.

The whole experience was one of my favorites from our entire trip to Ireland. Everything was excellent from start to finish but the standouts for me were the fried oysters, quail ramen, and the sea bass.

First I will get to the dress code because let's be honest if you are traveling from a different country packing dress clothes along with everything else can be a challenge. Hubby and both wore jeans. I wore a dressy blouse and heels and hubby and son wore a dress shirt. I did not feel uncomfortable or underdressed. There were some dressier and others dressed as we were. The restaurant is very chic and sophisticated with a romantic and intimate atmosphere. Great lighting and candles make it a lovely environment. The staff is very attentive and let us know their specials right away. The wine list is impressive and I started out with a Pinot Noir from Argentina. As starter I had the Goat Cheese Ravioli with a Split Pea Sauce it was incredible. The purée was light and full of flavor without overpowering the ravioli. For my entree I had the Pork Cheek which was cooked to perfection. Lastly I had a dessert that I will probably compare all other sorbets Wild Heather Honey- Carrot, Camomile, Sorbet. It was truly magnificent! It tasted like a spring day with the lightest effervescence of honey. The carrots were candied and added a small crunch to the texture giving the dessert several layers of tastes. The staff was really great about my seafood allergy and worked around it kindly. A truly beautiful culinary experience in Galway, Ireland!
