First off, the beer: it's stupidly good. Like, annoyingly good. Their IPAs actually taste different from one another (shocking, I know), the stouts don't drink like liquid bread, and even the lighter stuff has actual flavor. It's witchcraft, and I'm here for it. The vibe? Top tier. Inside feels like hanging out in your cool friend's garage--if your cool friend also had a professional brewing setup and knew what the hell they were doing. Outside, the beer garden is basically Milford's adult playground. Add in food trucks and you've got yourself the perfect Saturday. The staff? Friendly, quick, and actually seem like they enjoy being there. Do you know how rare that is? I've been to breweries where the bartender looked like I asked them to solve long division just by ordering a pint. Not here. At Tribus, they get it right. We enjoyed a very nice visit to Cheshire Craft Brewing yesterday…read more It's located inside a strip mall style industrial park, so it's not obvious where the brewery is (no big signs or dedicated parking lot). There is a small sign over the door, otherwise you'd think you might be walking into a printing shop or electronics repair place. When you walk in, you'll see the glistening tanks and brewing equipment on your left, a lot of tables and chairs on your right, and the bar and more seating straight ahead. Yesterday, their beverage choices included four IPAs, a Roasted Amber Ale, a Lite Ale, a Berry Sour, two ciders, a few wines, and a distilled spirit cocktail. I went with a full pour ($5) of their 125 Lite Ale. It came in at 5.4% ABV and was described as "A crisp & creamy unfiltered light American ale". I'm not an IPA guy, so I wanted a Pilsner or Lager, so this was perfect for me. Very drinkable, very refreshing, and priced right. My wife ordered a half pour ($5) of the Sparkling Tea DROPS Cocktail by Continuum Distilling. It packed 7.6% ABV firepower and was described as "a unique SPIRIT distilled from Connecticut's best craft IPAs, paired with a Lemon or Sweet Tea base then carbonated to sparkling perfection". I mooched a sip, and it was outstanding. Our server was pleasant and helpful, steering me to the Lite Ale after I eliminated the IPAs and describing the Lemon Drops so well. They have a Ted's Steamed Cheeseburger food truck on site every Friday-Sunday. They set up in a big open area behind the brewery, and there are maybe ten or so tables and chairs out there. Drinking our cold beverages and enjoying a nice cheeseburger was quite the sweet way to enjoy a sunny Saturday afternoon.

This is categorized as a pastry stout and I really like those but have to be in the right mood for one. Preferably during the colder months out of the year. Apparently there are a few variations with the donut stout but as the name implies I got the Samoa version. What makes up in the flavor and texture profile is a sweet, smooth, chocolate, creamy and rich beer that Steve and I shared. A whole pint of this might have been too much for me but Steve and I shared it which made it proportioned quite well. A wonderful start with this brewery and would love to try the other donut versions of this stout! I saw a French Toast one that also caught my eye!

Front Porch Brewing Company is a craft brewery that opened in Wallingford, Connecticut in November…read more2017. It was founded by business partners James Flynn, Drew Peccerillo, Tiffany Ulrich and Ryan Voytek. Flynn began home brewing about five years earlier in a friend's backyard and eventually moved to brewing on his front porch (hence the name of the brewery). After he started getting better at home brewing, he decided to turn his hobby into a business. The small brewery brews a variety of different styles but mainly brews different kinds of IPAs and Sours. The small brewery and taproom has a one-barrel system and can only brew a small amount of beer at a time. They occasionally enlist the help of brewery collectives such as The Beeracks in East Haven or Twelve Percent Beer Project in North Haven in order to produce and distribute beer on a much larger scale. I've been visiting Front Porch Brewing since not long after they first opened. On my first visit, I ordered a flight which consisted of a Belgian Dubbel, a Session IPA, a Sour IPA, and a Pale Ale. The latter (named "Devil Children") was my favorite and the ABV appropriately clocked in at 6.66%. My most recent visit was this weekend to pick up some new cans that they released. Both new beers were brewed on a larger scale at Twelve Percent Beer Project and were available at both Twelve Percent and Front Porch's taproom. The first offering was a Double IPA called "Leaving So Soon?" It's aggressively brewed with Citra, Strata, Galaxy, and El Dorado hops. It had some lovely tropical notes from all of the different hops. It clocks in at 8% ABV and each can features alternating artwork that sort of resembles tarot cards. The second offering is an Imperial Pastry Stout called "Neil's French Toast Donut Stout". It was brewed in collaboration with Neil's Donuts (with locations in Wallingford and Middletown) and made with a generous amount of their French Toast donuts. It clocks in at 10% ABV and has a delicious aroma of donuts. I later stopped at Neil's to get some donuts to dunk into the beer! Delicious!! Well done everyone!

First opinion was not positive as there are three doors with signs on them and a good amount of junk on the outside, so curb appeal was lacking. We went in, weren't greeted, but greeted the brewery-tender. He doesn't say anything really, doesn't welcome us, or offer to tell us about the brewery even though we share its our first time. The place is clean, with darts, and board games (in disrepair). The Rangers have just started playing, first period. I ordered a white wine, hubby a citra session ipa. Hubby thought the beer was great, however served with a 2" head so not as exciting. Quickly after arriving, a family arrived with a bunch of kids who treated the place as a McDonalds play space. No one said a thing as they ran crazy, throwing darts, and just being kids on a playground, yelling and screaming. Eventually, another group comes in, most likely owners as nothing was rang up, and kiddo was behind bar playing on POS system, but suddenly the bartender was friendlier, and the parents asked the kiddos to chill. This brewery can't grow with this experience to new customers. Dockside is only in their fifth year, they run like a well oiled machine. Plus side for this small brewery, it was clean, wine was not bottom barrel but a good choice, and hubby very much liked the beers. When we arrived, the bartender was watching the hockey game. The board games were all in disarray. I personally fixed most of them, because we were looking for something to challenge each other with besides drinking lol. Maybe in down times, fix things up. Overall, if not for the very rambunctious kiddos running and screaming, we would rate it a four. Today I can't. Six years in business and not growing, your beers are great, wine is better than most, but atmosphere is a playground. Another tip is to provide ice. Water provided is warm. Go check them out as beer and vino are good.

Milford Point Brewing is a craft brewery that opened in Milford, Connecticut in April 2018. It was…read morefounded by friends Chris Willett and Jerry Candido. The two are both Milford residents and originally met when both of their daughters played on the same softball team. Willett had been a fan of craft beer for some time and eventually started homebrewing. Candido had originally only drank macro brewery offerings like Bud Light, but soon converted to craft beer after trying Willett's homebrew. Willett began entering his beer into homebrew competitions and eventually beat out 40 other contestants at a contest in Stamford. Eventually Willett and Candido decided to join forces and open their own brick and mortar brewery: the first one to open in Milford which now has a growing craft beer scene. It is their mission to produce great-tasting quality beer for local beer drinkers. Most of their offerings are named after points of interest in Milford. I first visited Milford Point Brewing in March 2019. I devoted that day to trying out some new breweries in the area that I hadn't visited yet. Milford Point was my last stop of the day. They have a cozy taproom in a business park and most of the clientele seemed to be locals. I sat at the bar and ordered a flight of four which consisted of "06460" (Citra Session IPA), "Silver Sands" (IPA), "West Shore" (Double IPA), and "Settlers Stout" (Milk Stout). The Silver Sands IPA was my favorite of the flight and I purchased a four-pack of cans to take home. Milford Point makes a nice addition to the city's craft beer scene.

It was founded by brothers Michael and David Ieronimo and their partners Christopher Urban and Kyle Ondrush. The two brothers started out as homebrewers in their mother's kitchen in the late 1980s. By 2004, David's brother-in-law Christopher and Michael's co-worker Kyle had also come into the fold. The four formed a homebrew club and brewed together out of a garage. The homebrew club evolved into a homebrewing obsession and the next logical step was starting their own brewery. They chose the name "Brass Works" as a reference to "The Brass City": the official nickname of the city of Waterbury. Kyle retired from the brewery in 2021, but the other three partners still continue to share their passion for good beer. I first visited Brass Works in June 2016. I was driving around the state visiting some breweries that were new to me. The interior of the taproom was really nice; lots of neat decorations. During my stay, I ordered a sampler flight of five beers which included: "Wee Windy English Bitter Ale", "Sweaty Sisters Blonde Ale", "Abel Porter", "Uncle Zac's Stout", and "Double Bird IPA". The latter was my favorite of the bunch; great notes of Amarillo hops! I ended up purchasing a growler of that one to bring home. Keep up the good work gentlemen!
