Delicious fresh beer and a wide variety. Last time there I saw two porters on the beer menu. Also 3 or 4 gose/sours. Food is a bit pricey and not large portions but a good mix of pub food. First time we had the giant onions they were incredible. Second time they were a bit greasy. read more

The brewery itself is more of a large room with half of it consisting of tables for a dining area and the other half a bar. I wasn't able to actually view any of the brewing area, but I believe they offer brewery tours on the weekends. I tried the poutine with the chicken gravy, and bacon. It was pretty good, a little sparse on the gravy. The atmosphere was loud as the dining area consisted of a lot of small children and families eating. I would say it's a good stop for a beer, and a bite, but not a great hang out spot for a conversations with friends as it was difficult to hear the person sitting beside me at the bar. Also, service wise, we had a bartender Carl, whom I assume was also a manager who was not friendly or even the least bit hospitable. I asked him a question about one of the dishes because I have an allergy, which I made clear, he then made a snarky comment and stared at me the whole time I was asking the questions like he couldn't be bothered. I never did get an appropriate answer so I decided to order something else. Anyone who has a food allergy knows how seriously it has to be taken, not only by people who work in the service industry, but especially in the kitchen. Came back a little over a year later and things sure have changed! They now have a full service restaurant and completely renovated interior. Everything was phenomenal. Compared to our first visit ever back in 2017 that was just some board games and a few beer taps in a building in an industrial park...I am thoroughly impressed with how far this brewery has come! On today's visit, we sat outside and the staff let us move some tables together. We had our pup with us (she came the last time) but this visit there was a sign out front saying "service dogs only" however, the staff let her in. We were beyond thankful as we just drove 40 minutes and this was a complete shock to us. Apparently, it's a rule from the town of Branford, but outside, well behaved pups can stay. We spent way too much money this afternoon between 8 of us, but we got to try so much of the menu - in which everyone was impressed! We tried everything from the pretzel bites (with beer cheese!!!!), poutine, onion rings, burgers, street corn and fried chicken sandwich. For a brewery that just recently started churning out food, everything was really good! The beer cheese is a must try! The vibes and staff here are just great, and their Siren Sour Series are some of our favorite beers in the state of CT. They even have a gose to which you can add their homemade "beer jam" and it just takes the beer to another level!! First time back to thimble island in many years, and did not disappoint! Plenty of quality beer to choose from, and the food was above average. Only comment is the avocado on my burger was probably 20% ripe. Very hard to chew, which was not pleasant. Humus, spicy chicken sandwich, and fries were a crowd favorite though. My group and I ordered wings to start with then we had The Lobster Roll, Lobster grill cheese, the Thimble Island Smash Burger, the Caprese Sandwich, Chicken BLT with a variety of beers and everything was delicious!!! My lobster roll was sooo perfect! Tons of lobster meat and warm butter, hello flavor town! My favorite beer is the Ruby! It's the perfect summer beer, I'm craving some as I'm writing this review. The service was great! And I love all the updates the brewery has made over the past year! The interior is beautifully decorated and the back room is the PERFECT spot to watch sports and enjoy great food and drink! Going back to the brewery today because we had such a great time! We love coming here because this close to the shore, and have great beer and eats. They have a great selection of beers not available in cans or at local package stores so it's always fun to come in and see what they have. They have a small bar so if there's no space you have to wait for a table. It's seated, with a waitress.. so kinda a downer you can't just seat yourself and go get your own drinks. Ok first the good.... The beer. Specifically, the sours...will always keep me coming back. Outdoor dog friendly seating...also always keeps me coming back. Servers and hostesses are always kind and attentive. But...the kitchen is inconsistent. There are times I've been here and raved about the food and have come back craving it...but it's not the same when I return. The most recent visit: the batter to the onion rings (& a family members fish sandwich...same batter) was so bland and the onion rings were over cooked, under seasoned....literally just tasted like greasy air. I ordered the shrimp po boy and as pictured...was more bread and fixings than shrimp. Three tiny shrimp on each side of the bread. I ended up just putting all the shrimp on one side (& still had room for more) and ate just that half of the sandwich. I've ordered this same dish in the past and had much better/tastier onion rings and a fuller sandwich with bigger/more shrimp. This experience was sad :( My family members eating dinner with me there were equally underwhelmed with their meals. My wife and I are retired and are always looking for Happy Hour menus; we stopped by in early June on a Sunday we had some wings and a couple of beers, quite good, I might say; on the way out, we asked the bartender if there were any Happy Hour menus they said yes .75 cent wings a beer for $4 on Thursday afternoon. Hence, we stopped by the following Thursday. We had four beers, one being the Happy Hour beer (it was fine) and Happy Hour wings. We asked for our bill. Now here is where it gets a little murky. To our surprise, the wing was at total price; we did get the happy hour beer at $4.00, so we asked the bartender, and she explained that the beer happy hour beer starts first and ends at 5:30 PM, then the .75 cent wings start after that not together we left 20% tip and whet home. In retrospect, we were saddened by Thimble Islands' business plan, with numerous other businesses in the area having a happy hour containing finger food and several beers simultaneously. My suggestion to Thimble Islands is simple: tell your help when asked about their happy hour. We do not have a happy hour; that way, their customers will not be surprised when they receive their bill. One more little Jem: get flyers for the bar or tables saying WINGS .75 cents and place a time limit on it. I do not mind paying; I do not want to be fooled. read more

This was the perfect winter day activity!! Over the holidays, we had seen a groupon for this brewery and since my sister goes to Grad School in the area, my mom bought them for the family as holiday gifts for all of us so we can visit my sister and do this one weekend. We went this past Saturday and had a great time. The groupon included a flight of beer, a souvenir pint glass, a 32. oz growler and a tour of the brewery. Unfortunately, the day we went, they were repainting the brewery so we could go on the tour, but I don't think it would have been anything special, its a small place and the brewery part itself is just one room. I think for 4 people, the groupon ended up coming to around $55 which is a really amazing deal, you couldn't ask for anything better. When had met our cousins there as well who were in the area, so it was a group of 10 of us - they also had the groupon. When we arrived, we sat in the front part of the brewery, where the kegs are and they had some seating, not a huge place, but it was early-ish still, so we were able to get a large table for all of us. We started with the flights of beer. In the flight, you got 4 small sizes of beer, and the selections were pre-set. They gave you the American Ale, a coffee stout, a lager and their ghost IPA which is a double IPA. The fact it was pre-selected actually made it easier bc they had so many choices to choose from. The only one I was not excited about was the IPA because i am not a fan of those, like at all, but for an IPA it wasn't terrible. I did drink that one first to get it over with. The coffee stout was great, such a different flavor than other beers, it is super dark so looks kinda scary but it is very smooth. The ale and the lager where my two favorites. I ended up filling up my growler with the lager. It's similar to a bud light, a little heavier, but embarrassingly, it is my favorite beer. After we finished our flights, we realized they had a huge event room in the back that was unoccupied, they had a projector on and a lot of tables and we moved back there. They even put on the Villanova game for us. This place is BYOF (bring your own food) so we had brought a few snacks. I think in the warmer weather, there may also be a few food trucks outside, but there wasn't on Saturday. We enjoyed a few more pints back there! Overall a great place to come to hang out for a chill day when you're looking for something different to do. read more

We have been a couple times and have enjoyed our food and the beers- sea mist and gose sour being a few of our favorites. Service is friendly. Only complaint is the music is a bit too loud. We stopped in on a winter evening, partially to pick up some beer, and also to check this place out. Thimble Island has a nice taproom, with a small main area and then what looked like a larger area that would be suitable for a private gathering. They are *not* dog friendly for the inside, and the patio area wasn't open in the winter, so check before bringing your pup here. Service is very friendly at the bar, and they have a really great variety of beers on tap. I have had their IPAs before, so I mostly sampled sours and their more unusual items on tap - everything they have is great, and I appreciate that they are trying different stuff. This is pretty easily accessible from the Interstate, so if you're passing through CT and have a chance to stop here, it's well worth your time! read more

I was so impressed with Thimble Island! I had no idea how close they were to New Haven. Personally, I don't enjoy the crowded chaos of Stony Creek and this place is my new go to. The place was full as there was a private party in the event space, but not so noisy you had to yell and the bar staff were so welcoming to hang at the bar. They played 2000s music (my kind of music) and the bar staff were super chill and friendly. We stood at the bar which was perfect for a few beers. They have excellent beer as well! The lager is super drinkable and refreshing and they have one of the best coffee stouts. They apparently add random ingredients every week in a few barrels of their American Ale...the week we went was peanut butter which was just fun to try. They advertise food trucks but the day we went either it wasn't there yet or they didn't have one. We bought some chips which tided us over. As we were leaving Thimble Island Brewing, my wife and I had a discussion about how different so many of these breweries are. Some are true dives, some are gorgeous and stylish, and others have very nice outdoor facilities. Thimble Island Brewing has a lot of very nice features. The tasting room is large and roomy. The outdoor patio and picnic tables offer a great way to sip your beers outdoors. And most importantly, the beers are excellent. We had a flight of four beers today - American Ale, Coffee Stout, Thimble Lager, and Windjammer Wheat Ale. They were all very drinkable. I especially liked the smooth Coffee Stout and the mild Thimble Lager. It took me a few sips to warm up to the Windjammer Wheat Ale, but it sure went down easy after I got used to the taste. read more
