Small family owned and you can tell. The guys working there are super nice and treat you like friends. The food is right on point. Had the 12" combo special and can't even finish it. This place looks like a regular convenient store but inside is a great place for cheap eats. I had their Chicken wing combo which includes 4 whole wings, fries, and a fountain drink. It was great! Nothing fancy but was made fresh to order. I really like the enthusiasm of the staff and the prices are very affordable. I was on a philly hunt & decided to give this place a try. Not your average philly & a bit offset in locale but that never stops me from exploring. I found the men to be more amused i was there than to take my actual order. The sandwich itself; though well toasted, lacked a bit of flavor. Almost like they didn't bother to season my batch of meat. I'm a taste bud fein & I dont like adding condiments to foods that shouldn't require them. Not sure if I'll go back...maybe in a few months when im on another hunt. read more

Unfortunately there is not a zero star option. About a month ago I had a Philly steak sub on my mind for quite a few days, so I decided to go to Phat Philly's on Robinhood Rd. Norfolk, VA. I had experienced rude customer service from this establishment here before but brushed it off to maybe having a bad day as anyone can be overworked and tired. I mindfully ask for whatever with manners, being that is how I was raised. Now I can go from zero to 200 with tude in .0000001 flat. But I chose not to. Well this time the smart aleck rude customer service was still in place and the bald head worker that you see in the pictures here on yelp was picking his freaking nose in a freaking food establishment. How my mind works is: after doing that crap what has he touched that the next worker will touch in the process of handling my food. Needless to say I lost my appetite. I hate to say bad things about folks. As far as I can recall, I believe this is my first negative review like this. read more

Entered the store and there was a man yelling in a combination of English and something Middle Eastern wearing a side arm. Ummmm... Sketchy. I got a chicken philly. The bun was well toasted, the chicken shredded and tasty. The fries had some seasoning sprinkled on them; nothing amazing, but nicer than plain salt. read more

I'm pretty happy right now. I was reading about another sandwich place in Norfolk and another reviewer mentioned Fat Philly's. I am a Delaware County native, so I know what a good cheesesteak is. Walking in, I knew I was in for a treat. The smells and atmosphere reminded me of a typical Mom and Pop joint around Philly. The default cheesesteak has mayo on it, which I would never get, but to each his own. I got a 12" steak with fried onions and ketchup and it was delicious. The seasoning on the sandwich wasn't what I'm accustomed to, but it was by no means bad. The make-or-break element of a good cheesesteak is the roll, and this one was perfect. Crusty, but not too bready. This place is close to my work, so I will be back and I will send people from my office if they're looking for a cheesesteak. read more

I have finally found the best cheesesteak in Hampton Roads-hands down & bar none! Worth traveling far for!

I stopped in today with my daughter who I was sure to impress with it being her first time eating their food to enjoy . I am a 25+ plus time customer who has turned many people on to them for the great tasting subs and fries with the special seasonings. I have always had the same quality until today. I got home 5 minutes away and we both dug in immediately. My daughter said "Dad, the sub is kinda ok, but the fries are awful!" I ate some and acknowledged that. They were terrible. Soggy, undercooked, and freezer burned after taste. The Philly was even off tasing and quality. I spent $25.00 and felt that a return was needed to report my concern. There was still a repair man there fixing an electrical issue from when I was there earlier and I can't say that this had anything to do with this but maybe. The person working who I pulled far away to the other end of the store to complain about my experience offered me $6.00 off of $25.00 because his uncle was not there to handle it. Well, Call him maybe?! Anyway, I'm not satisfied. Sad, because they do have a good sub normally. Not feeling good about this experience. read more

I used to be a fan of Fat Philly's as a no-frills, greasy-spoon style place. Their abysmal customer service has abandoned me as a customer, however. Just today, I went in before 11am to order a breakfast sandwich, as I was starving. As I walked in, I checked out the grill to ensure that they were still serving breakfast, and saw numerous breakfast items (eggs, bacon, toast, etc.) still on the grill sizzling. When I placed my order, however, the cashier said they weren't serving breakfast any longer... funny, since I've gotten omelettes in the past at 2:30 in the afternoon. When I confronted him with the fact there were items still on the grill, the cashier hemmed and hawed and offered no explanation. Fed up with this instance, as well as previous bad incidents, I told him to forget it and made my way out of the store. On the way out, he called out two things, the first, I imagine, was supposed to appease me? Which was "those are for me." All of them? Hmm. And funny, it takes less time to crack an egg on an already-hot grill than it does to make a cheeseburger. The second, which is what really put the nail in the coffin, was that he told me to "go to McDonald's for breakfast." Thanks, I believe I will, for breakfast, and for everything else. read more
