We booked an Eiffel Tower tour that was supposed to be two hours with an ascent to the top. our"guide" was a nice young man but didn't seem to know the Eiffel Tower either historically or where we needed to go for our tour. when we were told the summit was closed he said that the second plat form was as good as the top and it's not. Other than about his personal life I didn't learn one thing from him about the Eiffel Tower. I didn't pay what I paid to have someone walk me to the Eiffel tower when my hotel was 10 minutes away. Definitely not worth what I paid and I would highly not recommend fat tire yours for an Eiffel Tower tour to any one. Just go buy your own tickets and save a lot of money. read more

We opted to do a guided walking tour around the Château de Versailles' surrounding gardens (which are a highlight - think the most immaculate, spectacular, amazing and beautiful gardens you will ever see in your life!). Bonus points about doing a tour: meeting our guide at a designated spot, with everything organised including our train ride out to Versailles, not waiting in line (mega highlight), and learning a lot about the history of Versailles, as opposed to just wandering around and not having a clue what you are admiring! We loved the tour, and Christine, our guide, was great. She gave us the low down on the history of Versailles, she talked about the four kings of France (funnily all named Louie) and pointed out to us the many statues, fountains and monuments. Hubby booked a Segway day tour of Paris & it was just the BEST time Ever! I've never been on a Segway & I was initially terrified. The #1 best thing to do on the day you arrive in Paris is to get your sleepy ass to an evening Fat Tire bike tour. Fail to make that plan, fall into a dead sleep in the late afternoon, and you'll be staring at the ceiling at 3 a.m. Meet near the south leg of the Eifffel Tower and look for the guy standing on something that makes him taller then others. Tell him you're there for the 7 p.m. bike tour (no reservations needed) and wait while they assemble. Once there's an adequate number of people assembled, follow the guide to the shop where you pay, get a bike, and get a 3-minute, ridiculously simple, completely effective safety lesson. From there, follow your guide for the next 4 hours or so as you tour Paris, stop for Berthillon ice cream on Ile de Cite, stop for a cruise on the Seine with wine (no extra charge for cruise or wine), stop in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower at midnight to watch the twirling lights, and so much more. This review is for the night bike tour of Paris. DO IT. DO IT. DO IT. DO IT!!!!! The tour meets at the Eiffel Tower at around 7pm. You take a short walk to the Fat Tire offices, get a little safety orientation, test out a bike and you're off. You'll see a TON of stuff in a few short hours (I believe its about 8 miles of biking). It doesn't matter if its your first night in Paris or your last. We went a day before we left and had seen most everything already but doing it by bike at night was just an amazing experience. If you want to know the history of what you're seeing, you'll get a very brief summary so it's not the best for that aspect but it's still something you shouldn't miss. One of the BEST parts of this tour was riding around the pyramids at Louvre at night. We stopped there for about 20 minutes so people could take pictures and there were barely any people there. Just being able to freely ride around and around without the bustle of tourists everywhere was an experience we're all still talking about. The tour also included a one hour cruise down the Seine River which was a welcome break after a LOT of riding and just breathtaking at night. There was free flowing wine so be careful. You DO need to bike for another half an hour or so afterwards. The tour ended around midnight. We were exhausted when we started and almost decided not to do the tour. When it was over, we wanted to keep going. We enjoyed it THAT much. I hadn't ridden a bike in probably 14 or more years and I did it so don't make excuses. You won't be sorry. I found Fat Tire Tours Paris while watching Youtube videos refreshing my memory on Paris (we were last in Paris in 2005) where I happened upon a video of Julie & Crissa talking about the Metro. I was trying to find out more about the Montparnasse area where we were looking to, and eventually did, wind up staying. This random happenstance led me to looking up their tours. (I would suggest since they've rebranded their multiple companies into 1 name, they update some of their videos) I read many online reviews of Fat Tire Tours Paris and was impressed. I called Parker at their 800 number and she was incredibly helpful. I also talked to Casey and she was likewise super helpful. My wife did a bunch of online research (since we'd never heard of them) and was impressed, too. These things led us to book with them. We did: The Behind-the-Scenes Versailles Tour with Nassim The Latin Quarter Night Walking Tour with Janica The Classic Paris Walking Tour with Sonja We also purchased discounted Bateaux Parisiens Seine River cruise tickets that wasn't a tour, but just a 5€ savings per person over just buying them at the dock. Eva, the manager in the office was great to us, as well. We've been all over the world and we've done tours in many places. We've had great experiences, mediocre experiences, "WHY DID WE DO THIS" experiences, and some that were just bizarre... like the time we randomly were introduced to one of the biggest movie stars in Egypt, at a gas station by our tour guide. Nothing odd happened like that on our Fat Tire tours, but we had a great time. The tours were extremely well put together and well-paced. Having Sonja on our final tour really helped put that into perspective. We wound up being her only people that tour and she explained the mindset behind how Fat Tire puts the scripts for the tours together and how they focus on what to show their guests. It was great talking to her about it. We travel in a manner where we frontload any tours we do, so we can actually ask questions and use that info on our own later. All three ladies from Fat Tire bent over backward to help us in that manner. We really liked them all in their own ways. Nassim was a spunky, tiny ball of fire! Janica was the straight-A student who nailed her tour. Sonja was the one you wanted to hang out at the bar with all week. Each of them brought so much to their respective tours. If you visit Versailles, do the Behind-the-Scenes tour. It's sooooo worth it. The tours were small and skewed younger than most of the tours we've taken from other companies. That was nice. We're tired of being the youngest people on every tour. There were less than 10 of us total on the Versailles tour, just 5 of us on the Latin Quarter tour, and we had Sonja to ourselves on the Classic tour. I strongly suggest to anyone reading this to use Fat Tire. We found it to be a high grade company to work with and don't throw that around lightly. The ladies did solid work and also didn't do the organ monkey dance for tips. Although we also tip for good guides, we didn't get the annoying begging that the overwhelming majority of tour guides do for any random stuff they do. I did the Paris Night tour and wow it was AMAZING! We all met at the Eiffel tower and walked over to Fat Tire bike shop which was about a 15 min walk away. Once we got there, we paid for the tour, geared up and we were ready to go. We started off the bike tour biking around the busy streets of Paris. It was pretty intense but totally fun and thrilling! We got to stop at a Ice cream shop for some ice cream and my favorite part was biking around the Louvre. The Louvre was absolutely gorgeous at night! We got to bike around freely for about 20 min then off we went towards the Canal Cruise (which comes with the bike tour!) They boozed us up with some complimentary wine and we were cruising down the Seine for about an hour :) Biking back to the bike shop drunk was not the easiest thing to do, but I was definitely having a blast! You HAVE to do a Fat Tire Bike tour on your first day in Paris!! What a fun idea! And Paris is rated one of the top 5 bike friendly cities in the world. We met with the Fat Tire group under the Eiffel Tower and walked about 7 minutes to their office. Once there, we were all equipped with bikes and water. The Bike ride is 4 hours long, give or take. We started with the Eiffel Tower and French Military Academy, made our way over to the Church where Napoleon is buried + Military museum, headed to a famous bridge of locks, Concorde Square overlooking the Champs Elysee and the Arc de Triomph, The Tullery Gardens and then the Louvre. At each stop along the way, our tour guide Matt gave us just enough history and trivia to keep it interesting and not glaze us over. I'm not the best bike rider on the block. In fact, I didn't ride a bike for 10 years after a traumatizing experience. I still had a blast. You don't need to be Lance Armstrong to keep up, just a little brave and competent. We rode on the side walks and pedestrian zones for the majority of the ride. We did cut through a busy intersection during rush hour one time, but it was bumper to bumper traffic and there was no danger there. Fat Tire currently operates in Berlin, Barcelona, London and Paris. I will gladly do this tour in every city it's available. It's such a great way to see a lot, get acclimated to a city and figure out where you would want to come back to. Those bus tours are for lazy Americans! read more

Having done Segway tours in several other cities (Chicago, Rome, Florence and Barcelona), I can definitely say that tooling around a city on a Segway is one of the most fun things you can do as a tourist. Segways aren't very hard to ride, and if you can stand on two feet, you can easily figure out how to maneuver a Segway! This tour is definitely one of the longer and more relaxed tours I've been on, taking about 4 hours to see major landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. However, they also take you by landmarks that tourists may otherwise miss, such as the Ecole Militaire and Napoleon's Tomb. Our tour guide, Scott, was pretty amusing and had a lot of great insight on the history behind the landmarks. The only downside is that although a group on Segways are usually viewed with curiosity by most, some Parisians don't seem to take very kindly to Segways on their sidewalks, and are pretty open about their displeasure. This is something that I haven't seen as much in other cities where I've taken the tour. I suppose it's understandable -- after all, Segways are kind of nerdy and just a little bit obnoxious. However, the naysayers you might encounter during the tour aren't that big of a deal, and I can't really fault the tour company for that. Regardless, it's still an experience not to be missed. I highly recommend doing the evening tour, as the streets are less crowded and it's easier to maneuver the Segway when there aren't a billion people around. read more

We probably wouldn't have been able to cover the same amount of ground on foot. We even got to stop for a picnic lunch along the Grand Canal facing the palace. You are given a couple of hours to tour the palace itself and the surrounding gardens. The palace will most likely be crowded with tons of groups but it's the epitome of opulence and over indulgence that must not be missed. If you only have time for one tour in Paris, take this one. We did both the Paris Day Bike Tour and the Versailles Bike Tour. I would recommend doing both, but if you had to do one, the Versailles Bike tour was amazing and an absolute must! The Paris bike tour was great because you get to ride around the city and get a feel of how the city is laid out and see some of the sites. Riding with the traffic wasn't as scary as I thought it was going to be. I did feel safe riding in the streets. The tour guide we had was very nice and informative. The Versailles bike tour was amazing since you get to see so much of the grounds. The bike ride was pretty easy and leisurely, but I should mention that after you eat lunch, the bike ride gets a little difficult with one or two very small hills. It would have been nice to know this before stuffing my face with bread, cheese, meat and wine during lunch. Also, after visiting the estate, you get the choice of leaving with the tour guide on the train back to Paris at the end of the day, or you can leave way later if you prefer. They give you your train ticket so it is completely up to you. read more

What's great about riding a Segway Tour in Paris? Well - it's mildly terrifying, there isn't a dull moment, and it's just plain fun. I booked this tour for our family of 4 (2 teen boys, hubby & myself). My kids thought I was a rock star, and what better way to take on a giant city tour? We learned a ton about Paris, our guides were young & hip. My family took to the 2 wheel gyro monster quickly - as did I... yet every curb was a white knuckler for me. We saw more sights than we could have on foot, and enjoyed the history & the sights. My only disappointment was about half way through the tour when we entered Jardin des Tuileries. We got off the Segways, and pushed them to a small cafe where we recharged. Honestly, I was hot & sweaty and not happy to be pushing the Segway this far. I also wish I had known we were stopping for snacks, as I would have planned differently. This stole a star for me. After the tour, I asked if there were many wipe-outs - and the answer was yes. My mom and I were referred to Fat Tire for their night tour and.. wait for it................ it was my favorite thing we did in Paris. There, I said it. Now hear me out. Could a seemingly cheesy bike tour through a gorgeous foreign city really be all that great? Yes. Yes, yes, yes. I went into it with an open mind and had the time of my life. You start at their office near the Eiffel Tower and after you select your bicycle (mine was named Beach Bum) you go through some quick instructions with your guide. Ours was named Ryan - super friendly and pretty hot too. After the intro, you hit the pedals. This tour covers a lot! In four hours, I learned more than I did in four days in Oslo (and I did a tour their too). You bike by the Eiffel Tower, through the streets to Notre Dame, on the Île Saint-Louis where you stop for Berthillon ice cream, then to the Louvre. Honestly, the Louvre at night is what made the tour my favorite. For the first time in Paris, there was NO ONE AROUND. We had the place nearly entirely to ourselves. It was wonderful. From there, you bike to a boat for a wine-filled cruise on the Seine. Along the way, you will hopefully see the Eiffel Tower sparkle. It is magical. My sisters/SIL/BIL bought tickets with Fat Tire Tours to skip the line at the Eiffel Tower, our tour guide was Jade and I 100% recommend her and the company, they were GREAT! I'm usually a backpacker and not one for tours usually but I'm SO SO SO glad I did this one. Jade was funny and full of super interesting information, she joined us all the way up to the top and kept the long line for the elevator fun and we were all having a good time despite being unable to skip that portion of the line (there is no tour that is allowed to skip the elevator line to the top), and once up at the top she actually led our group and several other tourists in singing Happy Birthday to my sister. She made our trip fun and we will always look on it with fond memories. What a wonderful tour! We took the afternoon tour on November 24th. It was chilly but not too cloudy and our guide was ready early, so as soon as everyone in our group arrived we left. First of all, our guide was extremely knowledgeable about Paris history, so the tour was not only informative about the tower itself, but all the buildings you see around the city from the top of the tower as well. Secondly, skipping the lines is the way to go! Especially on a chilly day, there is no need to wait around if you have someone who can guide you through and give you incredible information in the process. I booked two tours with Easy Pass during my stay in Paris, and I am very happy I did. They had a 20% off sale online which was perfect for our time in Paris. They do offer a 10% discount if you Check-In on Yelp on your phone. They also offered a 10% discount after purchasing your first tour to return for a second tour. I used Easy Pass Tours for the Eiffel Tower and Catacombs. I highly recommend using them for both tours and more. You do gain immediate access to both places, skipping the lines of people as they say. The best part was that they gave you a headset to listen to the tourguide. What a great feature! That way you are not required to be so close to the tour guide to listen to them. It gives you a little more freedom and the enjoyment of a "private" tour per se. I would not have thought to take one of their tours, as I live in the city and very much am a DIY-er when it comes to seeing the sights, but a friend bought one of their signature "skip the line" Eiffel Tower tours for me and I enjoyed it. Not only did I not have to stand in that infamous queue for hours (we rocked up at our appointed time) but we also got a great tour from the 2nd floor, taking in the sights and also getting some contextual history. Worth every penny of the extra cost over booking your own ticket (which you'd have to do months in advance, anyway) even though I didn't buy my own ticket. We used the skip the line pass for the Eiffel Tower. The office was located close to the tower and it was a quick walk to the Tower. The nicest aspect of this deal is that you get to skip the first line to get to the first level of the tower. You still have to wait for the elevator to the top of the tower - no skipping that line. Staff were friendly and efficient. Pretty quick and easy process - worst part is that it a little pricey, but you are in Paris. We did a Tour of Versailles. The highlight of the trip was buying our picnic lunch at the farmers market in Versailles and then enjoying all the food during our picnic on the Palace grounds. Our guides recommendation on Truffle Brie Cheese and French Baguettes were spot on. We bought some grilled sausage from one of the vendors was some of the best we ever had! Trying to order in broken French from all the vendors was also part of the experience. Something we would have never known about or experienced had we just gone on our own. We were able to cover much of the Palace grounds that most people do not get to see by taking the bike tour, which btw is expansive and amazing and learned so much about the Palace and French History of the various royalty living there. The actual time allotted for the walk through the palace was short, just enough time to see the Hall of Mirrors and not much else but considering how bare the interior was, it was not that big of a deal. Another kudos to the company was that our trip was during one of the French train strike days and instead of trying to rely on the trains that day, they rented a very comfortable Charter Bus to take us to Versailles. This was above and beyond considering, I had a friend that took the trains that day and they mentioned how much a nightmare it was. They were talking about going to exclusive charter bus in the future and I think that maybe well worth it considering how easy it made it. read more

We forgot to print tickets to a Seine river cruise that we had ordered from another company, then we read online that Fat Tire Tours had free wifi. No one mentioned whether they had printing capability or not, but since it was 3 blocks from the flat where we were staying, we figured it was worth a shot. SURE ENOUGH! Louis Charlebois allowed us to print our cruise tickets, and didn't even charge us a penny! All the while, he and his co-workers were getting their next tour group going seamlessly. Our family of four (two kids ages 10 & 13) did the Versailles all-day bike tour and absolutely loved it. We met our guide Daniel in Paris in a park adjacent to the metro so it was easy to find and access. Daniel got us on the train to Versailles and when we got there got us quickly set up on our bikes. They had numerous sizes of bikes so each of us was able to find something comfortable. Helmets were provided upon request. We then rode with our group to the Versailles open-air market. Daniel told us where to find the best cheese, meat, wine, bread, etc. He also told us what vendors to avoid. For about 40 Euros we were able to get everything we needed for our picnic. Fat Tire recommends you bring a back pack and we were glad we did. Although there are baskets on the bikes it is much easier and more convenient with a day-pack sized backpack for all your food. Also, Daniel had cups, a wine opener and a knife handy when it came time for the picnic so we didn't have to worry about that. We then rode through the gates of Versailles into the "forest" section. This was my third trip to Versailles and while I have visited the chateau and the formal gardens this was my first time in the forest along the Grand Canal. What a treat! We did a loop around the entire canal stopping from time to time for Daniel to share stories and history with us. Daniel had a great knowledge not only of Versailles but also of French history and Versailles' place within that history. At lunch time we pulled off the bike path, Daniel spread out a huge tarp and we enjoyed our picnic in the shade alongside the Grand Canal. Definitely the most relaxing and enjoyable way to have lunch at Versailles! After lunch we continued our ride with a stop at the Grand Trianon, a visit to the Petit Trianon and a walk through the Queen's Hamlet. I had never visited these sights on my previous trips and they were all incredible. We then rode our bikes back to the starting point and on our walk to the Chateau Daniel took us to a great little ice cream shop to cool down (we were there in the middle of France's major heat wave) At the Chateau Daniel provided us our entrance tickets and took us to the group entrance where there were virtually no lines. This was where Daniel said good bye and let us know that it had been his last ever Versailles tour as he was moving away later in the week. At no point did it feel like Daniel was on his last trip. He was professional and entertaining and made sure we were having the best time possible. He also let us know that inside the Chateau would be a madhouse and he wasn't kidding. The Chateau is like a rugby match with one constant scrum. The crowds are horrible and making your way through the rooms is maddening. We quickly saw the Hall of Mirrors and the Kings and Queens bedrooms and made our way out of the crush of people to visit the formal gardens. By this time we were all pretty exhausted and ready to head back to Paris. Daniel had given us our train tickets and instructions on how to get back to the station. At the station they had a multi-lingual person directing which train to take and which stop to get off. Having been to Versailles before I knew I wanted to make it different and special for my family. Fat Tire and Daniel provided an incredible tour and a wonderful way to see the grounds of the Chateau and learn about its history. We would absolutely recommend this tour to our friends and would definitely do other Fat Tire tours in the future!!! read more

Without a doubt the best tour service in Paris! My wife and I did 3 tours with them. We did the Versailles Bike Tour, Eiffel Tower Tour, and Loire Valley Bike Tour. We had a amazing time on each! The staff is very friendly, very knowledgeable, and even take the time to explain items and give the history of specific things. The Loire Valley Bike Tour is a long bike ride so read the specifics and know what you are getting into before hand and you can physically ride a bike for the time needed. The Versailles Bike tour is shorter had has a lot of great stops including a picnic. Versailles itself is very crowded. So be prepared to shuffle your feet a lot and follow a crowd. Eiffel Tower with them was great. Almost no wait for security and getting onto the tower itself. If you are going to Paris Fat Tire is the way to do it! read more
