We heard so many good things about this spot, we saw it on almost all the reels on IG and it was even recommended by google. Last night we finally decided to give it a try. The spot is very cozy and has so many beautiful memories plastered onto their walls which is a beautiful way to keep memorandums of the people who visit. It is always packed and they seem to have karaoke? The breeze from the beach feels so good if you sit close to the areas that are exposed which kind of made it easy for us to wait so long for the food. My fiancee ordered the beef brisket sandwich he gives it a 6/10 because it was missing a bit of more seasoning, sweet potato fries were awesome and he still ended up eating the whole thing. I had the chance to bite into it and that one bite was enough for me to give it a solid 7/10 it can definitely be improved flavor wise but compared to most places on this island I will say they have the seasoning part of food down way more than the average place. For me, I had the baked ziti with chicken and while the pasta was (dry?) the cheese kind of made up for it? The plate was HUGE so I obviously was unable to finish it all in one sitting and it served as lunch today and I am not unhappy honestly. I feel like it taste it better because the raggu was able to sit overnight which ultimately added for that extra flavor to kick in all the way. We are not huge BBQ or greasy foods eaters but I would definitely come back to this place for some good local seasoning comfort food, we had a wait time of almost an hour which was not to our liking and we now know that if you are ordering take out you are probably better off calling ahead, ordering and just showing up after the food is ready. You cannot come to St. Martin and not visit Fat Tony's it is a staple and we can definitely see why. Fat Tony's has a Tuesday night steak special, $23 for a 12 oz sirloin, 2 sides and a buttered dinner roll. I ordered the steak medium, and it came as ordered with a mushroom gravy. For my sides I selected their "famous potato salad"and a mixed salad with a balsamic dressing on the side. I was very pleased with the taste of the steak, and the potato salad was very good. My husband declared his Philly cheesesteak sandwich was awesome with fries for $13. Tipping is at your discretion. Live music was available this evening. There was a duo, one gentlemen playing the steel drums with a main vocalist. They both entertained the lively crowd. The restaurant was at least 60% full. We enjoyed the music and our meals. We were in Sint Maarten on Superbowl Sunday and found this place within walking distance of where we were staying. Our home team was playing so of course we had to watch. The place was packed with people all watching the game. Thankfully it is an open wall restaurant so there is a nice breeze. I don't know if this is always the case, but on this evening, it was grab your own table. Being so packed, none were avaiable but gear not...everyone is so friendly and willing to share their table. It is such a friendly atmosphere. We walked by on other nights and there was a live band that sounded fun! We enjoyed some hot dogs and beers and the company. If we could give negative stars...we would. We had an amazingly bad experience the other night at Fat Tony's-which we have gone to for years, since we rent a place nearby every year for a month. We got there at 6 for the infamous pork chop night. After waiting around 50 minutes, and keeping an eye on the kitchen and other numbers, we realized that they had skipped our number. Two people at the end of our table were #10 and we were #11-we watched as #12 and #13 got their goods. And they were served pork chops.... My husband went up and told the chef that we hadn't received our food yet, and the chef insisted that we had already been served, arguing with him. Easily contested by the fact that we had no plates at our table and still had our identifying number in the table, which the servers usually take. The kitchen eventually admitted that they had made a mistake. We were offered a "free appetizer of either onion rings or French fries"-at this point we were totally starving so we took anything. Then we waited...and waited. So I went up to the manager, who we were familiar with since we had been there many times before. I calmly and politely talked to him about our dilemma, asking if he could do anything to help-we were so hungry at that point. Instead of apologizing, he rips into me and starts yelling at me: "this is an island, and these people work hard" he said. No contesting those facts, yet that had nothing to do with what had happened. I told him that the kitchen admitted that they had made a mistake-I wasn't being demanding, just hungry. And I knew that he already was aware of our situation because we saw the server telling him about it, but he tried to make the problem about us-never apologizing, just yelling "what do you want from me? To get your money back? Why are you being so nasty?" Like we had invented this problem to get a free meal, or like we have no right to bring any problem to his attention. Obviously, he had no concerns about what we were going through. Offended by how horribly he was treating me, I just walked away from him. If we hadn't paid for our meal when we put the order in (their system), we would have walked out at that point. Eventually, we did get our pork chops, after we had been there an hour and 20 minutes, and it didn't taste like it usually does (juicy and delicious), it was totally dried out like they had rush cooked it because of their error. The whole experience was so offensive. I get that the manager could care less if two tourists are dissatisfied-plenty more coming into town every day, so his attitude is "who gives a crap about these two"? Prior to this, he had always been nice to us, but his reaction was straight out of the Trump playbook: someone was saying something he did not want to hear, so he attacked us. I had worked in restaurants for 12 years; now we travel about 8-10 times a year internationally, and eat out about half of every week, at home or traveling. And never in my many decades of dining out and working in the business have I run into such an abusive attitude from a restaurant manager towards the customers. If he had just apologized and tried to make it up to us, we would have been okay with it. But he turned the situation into the idea that we were the problem for even opening our mouth about what had happened. But we were just starved, said that to him, and he said we were nasty for saying that! We will never return to this restaurant and are going to be sure that anyone we meet on St Martin is aware of the risk you take going to Fat Tony's: don't go there too hungry, because you may not get served...at all! And expect a nasty response if you talk to the manager...about anything! The manager may want to look up the definition of "hospitality industry" and see if he understands what that means. His behavior certainly doesn't indicate that he does! Go to this restaurant at your own risk...because the customer means nothing to this guy.... My wife and I have been reading about Fat Tony's for several years. We finally bit the bullet and decided to go on steak special night which is $23 instead of $27 including a salad, a more than ample sized baked potato, and a dinner roll. First, the star of tonight's performance, a large, delicious, juicy, perfectly prepared 12 oz sirloin steak. It had a mushroom sauce with great flavor. Perfectly prepared and very enjoyable. Could only eat half and I am a big guy. Next supporting actor was a baked potato, also perfectly prepared with sour cream and gooey cheese. Definitely reminded me of a twice baked potato but the potato was intact. Again, could only eat half. The salad had thinly sliced onions, ample tasty tomatoes, and fresh cucumber. I had blue cheese. Smaller amount of salad so this, I downed. Lastly, the dinner roll, which normally would be considered a stand in or walk on "roll." This roll was warm, gently crispy, and already buttered in the middle. Why do they this do this? Spoil me so much that no other meal will be able to compete? Finish this report off with appreciation to Martin from St. Marteen, our guide and seat finder for tonight's show. He was knowledgeable, fun, and did a great job. This was the first place I ate on the island -- chosen because it was within easy walking distance from the place I was staying. Staff were super nice, and the beer was cold. The brisket I ordered was tender and moist. But all the food lacked distinct flavors and seasonings, which was not at all what I expected. The beans were downright sad; they might have come straight from a can. Will I go back there to drink? It's certainly possible. The breakfast is ok, but it seems like they use leftover fries; they were rubbery. Tonys have a great lineup of food but no flavor for what I was given to eat. What I ordered was the smoked brisket and chicken, which had no flavor. The brisket seems like it was smoked for a few hours then finished off in the oven. My wife and I love a good dive bar, and Fat Tony's blew us away. Pizza has a thin, soft crust and the sauce is aromatic and delicious. The wings a perfectly crispy and loaded with flavor. Fat Tony's was AWESOME! We ordered BBQ wings and garlic cheesy bread for an appetizer, two steak night specials (Tuesday's: 12 oz NY sirloin/twice baked loaded baked potato/mushrooms and onions/salad/roll) and a penne vodka pasta for dinner. The steak was advertised as 12 oz, but I believe it was much larger than that. The price couldn't be better, our food total came to $66.00 and our drinks were $16 (3 Heineken, 3 coors lights and 1 lagunita IPA). We arrived early around 4:45 after a day at Mullet Bay and at this time it was serve yourself which was fine with us. You can grab your own beers out of the cooler and pay for them at the end. When we arrived the cook was the only one there (the other person came in later) but the food came out quickly and hot. The staff was super nice and my dad chatted with the bartender about all of the changes since we were last there (pre Irma). Post Hurricane Irma they have constructed a roof that covers the outdoor patio area which came in handy for the short bouts of rain showers that occurred through our meal. They have also added many electrical outlets next to the seating for those who wish to charge up, and they have great WiFi. All in all, I highly recommend Fat Tony's, we will definitely go back to try the VERY large pizzas we saw coming out!! P.S. Bring bug spray! It seems the whole island has more mosquitos then ever, we don't usually come in November so not sure if that is common or not. read more
