It was a hot evening and once entering the place, I saw 2 swap coolers pointed to a couple of tables. I got sat behind the cooler where it was just blowing hot air at me. Their wifi didn't connect and the bathroom was across the way, outside of the building. I placed my food order but my drink order wasn't taken. I asked the chef owner for water and he said the server would get it, which was his wife but they were both too busy sitting at other people's table and chatting it up while I'm over her parched for water for 15 minutes! WTF! I can't even get some water in this hot muggy crappy place? I ordered a pie because I was starving bc I guess this Italian place doesn't give bread. I had to get up and order it and my water with the other chef that was standing around bc no one was helping me get anything. Ordered the most horrendous clam pasta I have ever had with extra bitter and old arugula on top. Nothing about this place was palatable. The service sucked. Didn't realize this clam pasta was not coming with linguine but instead penne with some thick tasteless cheese sauce. This was definitely easily that worst restaurant I've eaten on the island. Came on a recommendation from friends. The ambiance is just as you imagine in st. marten. Off airport road going toward Phillipsburg. Started with escargot which were buttery and garlicky. Delicious but not enough bread to dip into the lucious sauce. Ordered the lobster. It came split and with rice. Hubby had the crab salad wrap which looked great and he said did not need anything. Seasoned well. The lobster itself was a bit rubbery but rice was good. Still good but 3 minute too long on the grill. All I'm all very good. I'm sure when the cruise ships are in they are busy. read more

We had our last lunch on the island at Vesna Taverna last Saturday, and it was superb. Sally, the gracious and convivial manager, steered us to a special, an impeccably pan-fried snapper fillet. The space was airy and open and serene, in spite of the traffic growling by outside on Airport Rd. Sally joined us before and after the meal, talking about her family in Trinidad and chatting about the comings and goings on the island. It was like enjoying a meal in a friend's home. We'd go back in a minute, and would highly recommend it to friends. read more

Great breakfast. If you want pancakes, these are the fluffiest ones on the island we've had. They do not serve them with real maple syrup though. Pancakes were pretty cheap, but other items were pretty pricey compared to other breakfast places on island. Sally was wonderful - great sense of humor! read more

I can't speak on any other meal here, but my breakfast experience was top notch. I promptly received attention from the waitstaff, initially receiving what might be the most delicious cup of coffee I've ever had. I then ordered the eggs Benedict, and the lovely waitress suggested an addition of avocado on the side. The food arrived promptly, and I was quickly impressed by the quality of the dish. The avocado was a nice addition, the eggs were poached perfectly, and it was nice to get the flavor of real, honest-to-God hollandaise sauce. Great service, comfortable ambiance, convenient location with ample parking, and delicious food. Hard to beat that combination. Traffic wasn't too bad on the morning I stopped by, but it certainly can be busy in this area, so keep that in mind. read more

We stayed at the Azure Hotel (love it) in Simpson Bay and I found this restaurant on Yelp. I arrived just before opening and was greeted by Sally. She invited me in and seated me, despite that they weren't officially open. I looked over the menu and the French Toast was calling my name. I was pretty hungry, so I also ordered an Eggs Benedict plate and a coffee. I dug into the Benedict's and the accompanying potatoes. They were delicious. I started talking to Sally and enjoyed her outlook on life and her love for her job. I then had the French Toast. It honestly didn't look too fancy, but once I tried it, I was sold. My experience at Vesna Taverna truly made my first full day on the island. I will certainly be back. read more

We were pleasantly surprised here. The food and service were exceptional. It looked like a little hole in the wall restaurant but don't let that fool you! Stop here first after you land on the island, before you do anything else-come and see Miss Sally at Vesna Taverna (except on Mondays because that's her day and she is actually closed). Her food will not disappoint and she makes the best drinks! Very awesome atmosphere (open air with some ac). Sally has a wonderful personality and she even provided a high chair for our 2 year old daughter and made her some mashed potatoes and fed them to her while we were eating! Such a lovely woman with top notch service! This was a great introduction to island food (for me) as it is my first time here on the island. We loved Vesna Taverna! We had breakfast here twice and I also ordered a ton of to go food. The staff was very accommodating to my ever changing requests. The fresh pressed juice was delicious. The French onion soup had an incredible flavor and definitely the best I have tasted on St Maarten! The pot of mussels was very good as well. Seasoned just right as well as a very large portion. For breakfast, I love the lox & bagel. They sliced the bagel into 3 layers which I had never seen before! They stuff each layer with cream cheese & smoked salmon. Yum! Vesna, greets you warmly when you come through the door, the menu is posted on a chalkboard, and everything I have ever eaten there is delicious and made with top of the line fresh ingredients. Had dinner here last night we lucked out and got in! Hint, make a reservation on their FB page day before preferably. Food is awesome all done from scratch, FRESH seafood served daily on the board. This is a family owned business and is very laid back. If you do not have the time to sit and enjoy your food this is not the place for you. Apps to desert will take you about 1.5 hours. My husband and I ordered two specials (Pot Au Feu and Snapper in coconut curry sauce), my kids ordered a cheeseburger, steak and fries and a Greek platter. Solid food. Solid atmosphere. The only down side is the parking is cramped because the main road is right in front.

We ate breakfast here on Tuesday morning and had their daily specials. Bagels with egg, bacon, cheese and a side of potatoes. Latte made to order were very nice. read more
