Probably the best bbq in Dayton! I had the brisket and I'm really picky about mine, but it was great. I got it sliced but you can get it chopped as well. I love all their sauces, especially the warm and sweet, and Carolina mustard. They also have the pig pops which I highly recommend. A pork lollipop smothered in sauce is the way to go. read more

Some of the best bbq around! We had take-away for lunch at work for the first time today after the grand reopening. We were happy to find that the food is still great and tastes like the same recipes! I had the brisket, which was smoky and perfectly tender. The sweet cornbread is a favorite for our group, and the sides are good, too. All my food was piping hot, which is hard to get with takeaway food. The only critique is that the ordering process is not smooth yet. I look forward to many more great lunches from Fatback's! read more

While in Dayton, we were looking for some good barbecue. Yelp led us to Fatback's Barbecue. This is a small place, but it was late for lunch, so we didn't have a problem getting a table. I ordered the pulled pork platter and DH ordered the pulled chicken platter. We both got roasted potatoes as one side (YUM!). I got the baked beans with meat and DH got the green beans. The platters are actually a sandwich with 2 sides. The pork was moist and not too smoky. They have a variety of sauces on the tables. I was especially happy to see the vinegar sauce and mustard sauce -- I'm not a sweet BBQ sauce fan. All of their drinks are in bottles in a cooler (Pepsi products only). We had bottled water. I would have preferred some brewed iced tea, but the water was fine. Portions are very large here -- it would have been plenty of food if we had gotten one platter and one sandwich! read more

We ordered the family pack with 2 lbs of choice meat; beef brisket and pulled pork, four sides, buns or corn bread. Brisket was amazingly good and juicy with the right smoke flavor and pulled pork was also very good. Loved their roasted potatoes and baked beans. Their bbq sauces are amazing, I love the hot and warm sweet, they are sweet and hot that goes great with your meat. The cashier was very nice and I get to meet the owner Larry. Amazing guy, really down to earth and he even brought the food to our table. Best place for BBQ in Dayton but be sure to come early for dinner because they will be sold out quick. read more

Amazing barbecue!!! I came here for the first time and tried a pulled pork sandwich with mac n cheese and potatoes. The portion was huge and the food was delicious! The inside is very cute with all of the pig paraphernalia, and the staff was super friendly. If I weren't just visiting Dayton, I'd definitely come back. read more

Coming from a Carolina girl, this stuff is the REAL DEAL! SO good! The price is fantastic for the food you get too. Only thing missing is a pitcher of sweeeeeet tea to go with my food. They do bottled drinks and the bottled sweet tea isn't bad, but it's not the good stuff! I got the pulled pork platter and my hubby got the pulled chicken. The potato salad is a MUST! If you're debating on mac n cheese or the green beans, pass on those and try something else. They weren't anything to write home about. But ohhhh my lawwwd that tater salad. Ugh! So good! I really want to give this place 5 stars but they were low on some items and out of ribs during our visit. We tried almost everything. The pulled pork was on point. No hard pieces, big chunks of fat or anything. The pulled chicken was the same but I felt like it wasn't as seasoned as the pork. There sauces were good. My youngest liked the sweet. Me and the oldest liked the warm and sweet, but I liked adding some hot to the warm and sweet. Definitely try the pork pops and the baked beans. Stopped at Fatback's on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't prime lunch or dinner time. I was a little bit skeptical when I didn't see a smoker or smell one, but gave it a try. I am glad I did. I had the brisket and green beans. My wife had the pulled pork and green beans. Both were delicious. The brisket was tender, but not crumbling. The pork actually had some small bits of bark. Both were very good. A man from the back (owner?) then brought out a small portion of the pulled chicken for us to try. It was also excellent. On the way out, we picked up a pulled pork sandwich for our son and he loved it. I am hoping this wasn't just a lucky visit and it will be consistently good. It seems this is the best rated place in the area for lunch, so we gave it a shot. The restaurant is very clean (open kitchen), the staff is friendly, and they serve quality food. Between us, we tried the pulled pork sandwich and the pulled chicken sandwich (they don't offer dinners; everything is on a bun), roasted potatoes, mac and cheese, Cole slaw, and cornbread. Everything was fine, but very safe, ordinary. The only thing that stood out as really good was the cornbread. If we lived in the area, we'd probably go back, but it's not really a place I'd go out of my way for. What would make it worth the drive? If the meat wasn't so dry. It could really use some of the fatty meat drippings to moisten it up and add a little more smokiness. read more

From the pulled pork to the brisket to the pig pops (DEFINITELY try the pig pops!), I think this is the best BBQ in Dayton. Weird. I've been meaning to try this place for some time, but always seem to be in the area on a Monday (they're closed), or planning for a dinner later than 7pm (which is when they close Tues through Sat. The young guy working the register (at lunchtime) seemed pissed at the world. I greeted him with a smile, tried to make small talk, and he said... nothing. No acknowledgement, no head nod, nothing. Just an angry stare. Okay then. Then the middle aged lady bringing out orders seemed the same way. On the other hand, I'm here for the food, right? But the attitudes sure don't invite you back. I had a brisket sammy platter. Brisket is about the meat, but also about how its cut (cross-grain). This was pulled and stringy (I'm from TX, and judge my BBQ places by their brisket) and this must have been a crazy-thick brisket (5" plus). Flavor is good, spicy sauce is very good. Baked beans are good. BBQ is about the food, but also about "the feel". The best BBQ places seem to be mom and pop places like this, and part of the attraction is the smell of the smoke, the love of BBQ, and the atmosphere (warm, friendly, casual) since BBQ is a labor of love. I'm a Texas girl, so I'm pretty particular about BBQ. This place was the best I've had in Ohio. I had the chopped brisket with mac'n'cheese and baked beans. The brisket was tender and the sides were hot and fresh. The service made it even better. Our food was brought to our table and two other women checked on my husband and I twice during our meal. Tried the brisket again...and again it is bland, but ever so tender! I just wish they would spice it up! But, the brisket went fantastically with my homemade extra virgin olive oil/spice mix...Yum! I can see the brisket being an excellent base for many dishes (such as tacos or steak/brisket salad). I absolutely love this place! The pulled pork is perfection! The sauces are all amazing; I go for the sweet heat! The roasted potatoes are bulbs of buttery deliciousness, and whatever spices they use on them, should be bottled and sold. Also, the potato salad is amazing-a sour cream base instead of traditional mustard. The green beans and baked beans are good also. The chili and pretzel bread sticks are wonderful. Would've gave 5 stars, but I can't dig the Mac-n-cheese...and it's usually my "go-to" side, and many times they are out of pulled pork by dinner time.
