I bought a beautiful new piano from Faust Harrison/Keyboard Concepts about six weeks ago. My experience with the salesperson Adam was mediocre, but I didn't care because the piano really sold itself. The first time I came into the store, and fell in love with the instrument, I left my card because in the middle of talking with me he had to go get on the phone, and he never followed up. So I guess I sold myself the piano. NBD, there's worse things. Fast forward, the piano is delivered to my house. No follow up call or check-in from Adam, just an automated survey to fill out--which I actually deliberately did NOT return because I was so underwhelmed and didn't want to undermine Adam professionally. I figured he probably meant well. Six weeks later I am wondering about tuning, like when the piano was tuned, when I should have it tuned, etc. so I texted Adam. What transpired next was so odd and disgusting to me, so for believability I am attaching the screen shots. But in essence, Adam had promised me a complimentary tuning as part of the buy, then once I paid never followed up about it--and purposefully OMITTED TO MENTION IT after I asked him directly about just that. My grandma told me a story once about when she was 7 years old and living in Detroit during the Great Depression. Her family never had any money. She got onto a bus and tried to dodge the fare, which was a nickel. The bus driver looked up at her and said, "Is your dignity only worth a nickel?" That story comes to mind here. I am guessing (no idea) that the tuning cost would come out of the sales commission, and Adam just preferred to pocket it and try and pull a fast one. The most remarkable part, for me, is that since this little exchange four days ago, I have not heard a peep from him to try to make good, correct or apologize for the situation, let alone set up a tuning. Honestly I am aghast. Never buying from this place again, and telling all my valley friends (some of who have) to steer clear. Such a sad reflection of the decrepit moral turpitude that plagues our once ethical society. read more

I like this place! They carry sheet music of all genres, keyboards, piano and player pianos of all kinds of manufacturers for all budgets, and even a recital room for piano teachers and students (more about that in a bit). I'm surprised that there were 5 salesmen working on a Sunday afternoon after Christmas in a depressing economy. They must get good business or they like spending time in their little offices. Two of them came out to greet us and after we explained that we were here to kill time, they showed us the two additional showrooms and left us alone. Very cool. For keyboards, they carry simple ones for young kids all the way up to the full-sized (88 keys) with stands, mixers, and super fancy professional grade with a ton of buttons (I have no idea, obviously). For pianos, they carry uprights and grands mostly from Yamaha and Knabe (indonesian). They also have a few from Young Chang (Korean), Cable, Boston (from Steinway) and other lesser-known manufacturers. I was pretty surprised at how many Bosendorfers grand pianos this store carries. Bosendorfers like the Lamborghini of pianos (the o with the umlaut is also spelled as oe, i.e. Boesendorfer). The store even received a plaque from the manufacturer for being the store that sold the most in the United States...but that was in 2001. Anyway, if you have any interest in pianos at all, this is a good store to kill some time and nobody will bother you unless you want any attention. A showroom without hounds...some time to tinker at the piano without being hassled or anyone watching. How awesome is that? read more

I came to this store with minimal knowledge about pianos. All I knew was that I had a desire to learn and wanted a learning keyboard for a minimal cost. Joey (one of the employees) not only was able to show me their luxurious array of pianos (some of which were WELL out of my price range), but was able to explain to me all the specs I need to look for when purchasing a learning keyboard that is as close to a typical acoustic piano as possible. After much deliberation I was able to settle down and make a purchase on a wonderful keyboard (Yamaha P-125) that I very much enjoy using. They're getting music to my students that I couldn't get to them any other way right now, even online, without spending a tremendous amount of time coordinating the process. They don't have a great selection of used piano's here. Mostly new piano's. Therefore, it wasn't exactly what me and my son were looking for when we went in. Overall, polite but we always realized soon afterwards that they have a high overhead so we most likely won't get the best deal. They did try to pull a couple tricks (i.e. a woman from Church has looked at this used piano and will bring other people back, so I am not sure if this piano will still be available for you next week when you plan to come back), but not as obnoxious as the salesperon at Knauer in Tarzana. read more
