I always get a pamphlet in my mail for Hollywood Piano, that is also affiliated with Pasadena Symphony & Pops. I love and play the piano SO much and wanted to give this place a try and see what they had in store for me. I walked in on Friday, March 27th and was greeted by 2 of their employees that were nice, kind and helpful. They wanted to know what was it that I needed? I just wanted to see what my options were. With that being said, I started to play on few of their pianos, but didn't really get to the point of purchase. They have a variety of pianos: to rent, sell, they also come to your house or wherever that you have the instrument and will tune it for you for a reasonable cost. Also have movers to help you move your piano. This visit was mainly to check out and see what they had. Since I live in an apartment, our landlord doesn't allow us to have any musical instruments in the building. What a BUMMER!! They do financing and will work out a plan with you and negotiate a price for you. If and when I ever move into a house, I will definitely keep this place in mind. They've been established since 1928. By appointment only and the sale was going on March 27-29. Hours of operation is 10AM to 6PM. Don't know much about their parking situation, because I parked outside on the street. read more

I was waiting for few months before writing this review. The reason is that my piano and PianoDisc installation had some issues. I was waiting to see how Gus deals with it and whether he would be as committed to support me as he was to close the deal and sell the piano. There is another issue here that made things more complicate - I leave in San Jose, while Hollywood Piano is in LA. Well... I have only good things to say about Hollywood piano: (1) No pressure sell, (2) Fair price, (3) 5-stars service, (4) Large selection of brands When the piano was delivered, the Hollywood Piano technician flew-into San Jose to make sure all is good and I'm a happy customer. This is a VIP service you get only when you buy a Steinway piano, I received it with a Ritmuller piano from Hollywood Piano. Later after few issues came up. Gus himself drove from LA to San Jose to help. Then when issues continued with the PianoDisc system, Gus paid a PianoDisc factory person to come twice and clear all issues (that were PianoDisc related, nothing to do with Hollywood Piano). Pianos and PianoDisc systems are very complex, issues may happen. It is a question of how the dealer handles it. Does the dealer stand behind the customer and doesn't give up before everything is fixed. This is exactly what Gus was doing. He didn't give up. A token of thanks also goes to Andriy who responded promply to all my questions during the pre-sell and exploration phase. Bottom line, I strongly recommend on Hollywood Piano, no wonder they have the largest showroom, the most demanding customers (the Hollywood studios) and they are so many years in the business. The old man that work there yelled at my friend when he began to test out one of the pianos. He then proceeded to yell "those pianos are expensive you shouldn't be messing with them especially if you're playing that stupid song". The craziest thing was that another person was there and was testing a piano before us. If they don't want people to test the pianos, just put up a damn sign that says "please don't touch". It was a miserable experience and I hope they find someone better to run the store. read more

Hollywood Piano is a shady establishment that serves as an insult to the wider piano community. In a blatant attempt at a cash grab, their general manager - Mr. Ric Overton offered a third of what a separate establishment offered us on our used piano. Another store offered us $4500 but Mr. Overton offered us a pathetic and paltry $1500, knowing full well that the piano could sell for $7,000 to $8,000. I have no problem with a business making some money but what Mr. Overton, and Hollywood Piano, offered us here was undeniably predatory. Their business practices reek of blatant avarice and are a reflection of an institutionalized disregard for their customers needs. If they are this willing to rip off someone selling a used piano, imagine how comfortable they must be with ripping off new customers walking in to buy a piano from them. Beware. read more

Great experience buying here. After dealing with Gus, I decided to purchase a Roland HP603A digital piano, and have been extremely pleased with it. I've debated among uprights, grands, and different hybrid pianos, but I ended up going with the Roland after much education and honest info on pianos and digital instruments in general. Gus is straightforward and a man of his word; when I feel that I have graduated in my music program and reached the next level in playing, I will buy my grand piano here! I purchased an electric piano from Hollywood Piano a few months ago. I had been looking online for a while to comparison shop and to learn about the features of the piano that I wanted to get. After I had an idea of what I wanted, I researched some local dealerships and found Hollywood Piano, which is about a 15-minute drive from my house. Upon entering Hollywood Piano, I was impressed with their layout and they truly play up their image of being "Hollywood's Piano Superstore." They had pictures of stars and legends of today and yesteryears, and it really gave you a sense that you are about to own a little piece of Hollywood history. They also have a huge selection of pianos it seems - way more than what I was looking for. I was greeted by a nice salesman (I forgot his name), but I showed him a printout of what I wanted. He showed me the piano that I had printed out, but also showed me a better model that he could work out a good deal with me. At the end, I ended up with a better piano than the one I wanted for only about $100 more. It was a great deal. I'm an amateur classical pianist, and a couple of years ago, I was in the market for a grand piano. My husband and I did a ton of research -- besides reading up on various Kawai and Yamaha pianos (my brands of choice) -- I tried out pianos both privately owned and sold in stores. I came to Hollywood Piano after a terrible experience at Knauer's (contact me for more info) and after looking at a number of pianos that were not up to the standard I expected. I'm glad to say that Hollywood Piano took the anxiety out of the instrument-buying experience. The store has a good selection of high-quality new and used pianos, acoustic as well as electric.I spoke with two salespeople, both of whom were very helpful and knowledgeable. Best of all, they were not pushy -- they gave me all the time I needed to play the various pianos. Glenn, who I believe is a manager, knew exactly what I wanted and showed me several makes and models. I ultimately bought a wonderful, hardly-used Kawai KG-2E, a 5'11" grand piano in satin finish. Gorgeous, warm tone with firm yet responsive action. I got a very good deal and I was able to trade in my Knabe upright. Last but not least, Hollywood Piano took the headache out of transporting my new piano to our new home in Northern California, and at a reasonable price, too. If I need to get another piano in the future, there's a good chance that I'll go back to Hollywood Piano even though I now live in the SF Bay area. I trust the folks there; they try to do their best for their customers, even picky ones like me! read more

I had a very unfortunate experience with Hollywood Piano Company last weekend during their Memorial Day sale. I received a flyer advertising their big sale and decided to make an appointment on Friday, their "preview day". When I arrived I was met by a very friendly salesman named Kenny who took me outside and showed me 2 very nice pianos in the style I was looking for. One I really liked and he quoted me a price of $599 including tax, delivery, and the matching bench. I told him I'd talk it over with my husband and would get back to him later that day. I spoke to my husband and called Kenny back not an hour later. I told him that I liked the piano very much but that we had just had a large unexpected expense come up and that we couldn't afford the $599. (My dog had just been taken to the emergency vet the night before and that place ain't cheap. He's fine though!) Anyway, Kenny said that he talked to his manager and that he felt sorry for my dog and offered to knock $100 off the price. Great! Again, let me talk to my husband and call back. I called back less than 10 minutes later and Kenny told me that he misspoke, and that the price did not include tax and delivery. That meant that even though $100 was taken off the price, the tax and delivery fees bumped the price up to more than the $599 I couldn't afford in the first place. Kenny apologized and admitted that he really isn't a salesman by trade, but that he is a tuner that was helping out for the big sale. I was disappointed and told him that I understand mistakes happen, but wouldn't be able to afford the higher price. Cut to a couple hours later after the piano store had closed. Kenny calls me and says that he feels so badly for what happened that if I still want the piano he would throw in a free tuning later on when it needed one. I thanked him for the offer and again said I'd think about it. Then he proceeded to say that he put a SOLD tag on the piano with my name on it and to come by the next day if I wanted it. He also said he would call me if anyone else expressed interest in the piano so I could let it go if I decided I didn't want it. I thanked him and said I would see him the next day. My husband and I arrived at the piano store after lunch the next day and he greeted me by the wrong name and said "I'm sorry Kristin, your piano is gone." And I said, "Oh no my name's not Kristin, I'm Robyn. So my piano is here right?" and he said "Oh no, yours is gone too." I looked at the piano that still had a big sold sign with my name on it and asked what happened. He said that his manager had someone else interested and that since I didn't put any money down, he decided to sell it to that person. When I asked why he didn't call, he insisted that he did although my phone had not rang all day. I told him that he did not call, and that he probably called the person he thought I was named Kristin. He shrugged his shoulders and said, "Maybe". Then he began to walk away from my husband and I throwing an "I'm really sorry" over his shoulder. I was extremely disappointed and felt jerked around by the whole event. If you choose to do business with this company, I highly recommend that you get any quotes or orders in writing. It seems as though their word isn't worth very much. read more

When I went into Hollywood Piano I had several questions and concerns. Thankfully, the staff at this Piano Shop are top of the line and most DEFINITELY know exactly what they are talking about and it shows. After speaking with the President, Glenn for one day I could truly say I left the store feeling like a Piano Major! I had several questions regarding the Digital Roland Piano's and how there sound differs from others. He explained to me exactly what I needed to know, one major thing being that they have a Natural decaying sound which is huge for a Digital Piano! It was serendipitous that we ended up at Hollywood Piano. We were actually on our way back from the nearby IKEA (exhausted as usual from their maze and meatballs) and happened upon it. We were thinking about getting a piano for my mom's upcoming birthday and went in to see what those newfangled digital pianos were all about (or even if they had them at all). "Ric" greeted us immediately and we told him what we were researching/exploring due to space and money issues, and ultimately how the piano would be used. He was extremely informative, not pushy at all in the sales pitch (which is very irritating to me), but made sure to plug why buying from them could be a benefit to us (versus ordering thru other venues such as Amazon). Ric even agreed to price match. We left feeling pretty convinced the Casio Privia was the way to go, but not quite ready to pull the trigger on that sale. There was absolutely no awkwardness about that or typical passive-aggressive disappointment from their end. When the time came, the entire transaction down to the delivery and assembling was completely seamless. I had nothing but a positive experience with Hollywood Piano from start to finish and the piano...wow, it's amazing. If you close your eyes, you'd have no clue you weren't playing on the real deal. This is the place to buy or rent your piano! I came in just to browse there selection and walked out with a gorgeous Baldwin 124 piano. What I love most with my experience here was the service. I ended up being helped by Glenn, who happened to be the president/CEO of Hollywood Piano. He was super patient and informative. I don't know much about the various brands and he helped educate me which types of pianos are for what type of play. My daughter is a singer and she enjoys classical music too, so he suggested the Baldwin brand. I always thought Yamaha but quickly realized after watching Glenn play it is better for "pop" music. My daughter enjoys "pop" music too, however, Baldwin just popped out to us. Thank you, thank you to you, Glenn. My girls loves their new piano and is on it all the time. They even fight for play time as soon as they walk in the house (from a long day at school). I love it too, even though I don't know how to play. It looks stunning in my living room! Can't say enough good things about Hollywood Piano and their staff. I came in during their sale and Mario personally helped me--going through about a dozen pianos and finding a used Yamaha U1 that I was happy with. I got the piano home and they sent their technician Chris to follow up. Again, can't say enough good things about him. He came over and cleaned every surface of the piano, inside and out, fixed cracks, refinished certain areas, and did more technical work. He then came back another day started the tuning and decided that the whole internal mechanism could use some work so he took that to his shop and returned a few days later. Honestly, it's like a whole new instrument. The adjustments he made have it playing so well and it's great to meet someone who cares so much about their craft. Hollywood Piano is the store to go to!! They have a beautiful and quite large showroom and they stock multiple brands across all different tones. Medium, Mellow, and Bright, As well as European, American, and Asian pianos. There is truthfully something there for everyone. Glenn, (to my knowledge he is a co-owner) was the gentleman that helped me find a piano and he was very patient with me. They have a MASSIVE selection of Grands, and large selection of uprights as well, once again, across all brands and sounds. I am very Indecisive! I looked one day and didn't find anything. I played many American and Japanese pianos while there. I went to a Yamaha dealer the next day but felt I had unfinished business at Hollywood Piano, so I went there next. Glenn was there again and wanted to help me find the right piano after I told him I didn't like the action on the Baldwin I had been looking at. He then asked me some questions and had me play on a number of different pianos narrowing our search. I ended up falling in love with a Beautiful Ritmuller they had for sale there. It was the PERFECT piano, Soft and Pure in tone. He really knew what he was doing, I am so impressed! Their diversity in the Lines of pianos they carry is superb.
