I didn't even shop there, but I had a great conversation with the guy on the phone--he did his best to help me out with advice on my Farfisa accordion, and eventually we just kind of shot the sh!t about a lot of cool keyboard and Farfisa stuff, as well as possible repair solutions. I bought a vintage wurlitzer electric piano for $7k with the promise that it would be restored. I was told it would look great, sound great, and play great. The restoration took 6 months longer than it was supposed to. When it was delivered, it did look fabulous, but it was the worst playing piano I've ever touched. Some notes didn't even sound. He came over to fix it, but after making adjustments, failed to get the piano playable. He told me that was the best he could do and couldn't improve the piano any further. So now I have a $7k piano that can't be played or sold. After a few months of occasionally playing the piano, a new problem has manifested. Some of the reeds are going flat. I've been on a waiting list to get it set up by a wurlitzer specialist and I finally got an appointment. He played the piano and says he can fix it but the reason that some of the reeds are going flat is because they are worn out and need to be replaced. If they were worn out, why weren't they fixed when I paid CVKs $7k dollars to FIX THE PIANO? So now I'm paying another keyboard repairman $1.5k to fix work that CVKs failed to fix. I'm sick over the $8.5k I've spent on this piano and the $7k I gave to CVKs. They strung me along for a year on a money pit and wouldn't stand behind their work. I took a chance on a beautiful piano and put my trust in the wrong business. read more

I know there are a few places in the area that service vintage keyboards and sell parts/accessories for them, but this is the only one I will ever shop at simply because Luke is such a good guy. Whenever I'm looking for hard-to-find parts for my Rhodes, the first thing I do is email Luke. Every time I do that, I get a quick and very detailed response from him that always includes "yeah, we've got those!" He knows EVERYTHING about Rhodes pianos - how to make them sound better than new, where all the common problems are, interesting ways to modify them, etc. Also, their prices are always reasonable. Vintage keyboards are a very niche market, so most of the other shops charge crazy prices because they know their customers don't have many other options to choose from. CVK doesn't inflate the prices of their products just because they can. They're honest people that don't price-gouge their customers. Luke and the crew are THE BEST in the business. This is the ONLY place in L.A. to bring your vintage keyboard gear for repair, upgrade, or modification. They fixed a blown power supply in my Fender Rhodes suitcase bottom and adjusted the action at an extremely reasonable price and in a timely matter. After that great experience I took in my vintage Minimoog which was in need of multiple repairs and a new case. Luke fabricated a new beautiful custom cabinet from scratch and did all the appropriate repairs to bring the Minimoog back to life! It's now better than when it left the factory nearly 40 years ago. Ok let me just begin my long story explanation. I took off early from work on a Friday to drive 2 1/2 hrs to their shop in North Hollywood after speaking with Luke about building a power supply for my Peterson Preamp for a 74 Rhodes piano. He told me would test it the same day to see if the preamp still worked since it is a vintage piece of gear and may need work, also told me he would fix it the same day. When I show up, he has the power supply done ... Plugs it into my preamp and it doesn't work and tells me he has to leave early to handle personal matters and that he would ship it to me the next week. Fast fwd 2 1/2 weeks and he decides to ship the package and it gets lost in the mail. He didn't send me a replacement Pre-amp and power until a MONTH LATER and is sounded like SHIT why? Because he didn't know what he was doing. I ended up taking the replacement to KEN RICH SOUND SERVICES where work gets done properly! My Rhodes sounds amazing after the long wait NOT due to custom vintage keyboards. Stay away from this place they don't know what they are doing. read more
