My son and his teacher were able to play on the different pianos to test them out first, and see how they liked the sound and feel. Pooya was very knowledgeable was able to answer all our questions about the sound and quality and other things that don't understand but my piano teacher was asking him. I'll start off by saying I am not a piano player but was shopping for a piano for my kids back in April. We found Pooya through Facebook Marketplace. He was very responsive through our messaging and I was able to make it to his studio to look at his pianos. We provided a budget and he gave his recommendations. His service includes tuning, a 1 year warranty, delivery, and the ability to trade up if we wanted to in the future. Sounds great - seems much better than buying a piano of unknown quality from a private party. We picked a piano and in about 24 hours, it was delivered to our home. Well, it arrived an hour late, and I wasn't informed of the delay until I texted Pooya at the end of the delivery window. Good thing we didn't have plans on a Friday night. After delivery, we immediately noticed that the piano was leaning forward, something we didn't notice in the studio. I immediately texted Pooya and he suggested maybe our ground is not level (not the issue) and offered to bring caster cups. On the day he arrived, we had a few more issues to point out, including sticking keys and keys that were a little difficult to press. He explained that humidity could be an issue. When one key did stick while he was there, he simply solved it by brushing his hand over the hammers. As for the other sticky keys, he said he could not do anything about them since they were not occurring and compared the piano to a car, stating that it is so intricate that if there is nothing wrong, it shouldn't be touched. I mentioned the heaviness of some keys and he said that it is due to the quality of the piano. He then proceeded to play the piano and tell me that it plays well and it is in perfect tune. After he left, I found I was not convinced with his explanation and took some videos and explained that there seemed to be a lot of friction with those keys. My kids also faced the same issue where sometimes the key would not make a sound. He returned and explained to me that I was not pressing the key correctly. And that kids tend to not press a key hard enough so it does not make a sound. He then proceeds to play some music and tells me again how nice the piano plays and sounds. He leaves again and I continued to do my investigation because those heavy keys really bothered me. I peered into the piano and noticed the tri dampers were causing a lot of friction and that the issue with the heavy keys did not happen when the damper pedal was pressed. Once again Pooya returned. He again told me that this is how it is and that I could upgrade to a nicer piano if I wanted to. After leaving again, I noticed another issue where a key would not return upright if pressed in sequence and with the damper pedal down; so it would essentially stop making noise. I sent a video over to Pooya, who suggested that maybe the note was not released before it was pressed again, but said he could come by and check it when he is back from his trip. I never followed up afterward since I expected the result would end up being the same - where he would play the piano and say it sounds and plays well; where it would be suggested that I'm not using it correctly; where I would be given the option to spend more money and upgrade or replace it entirely. There were no solutions given for the piano I had in front of me. We opted to find a piano technician for a second opinion. He showed us that the hammers were not evenly distributed, causing them to rub against each other at times (but also attributing that this could be due to humidity). He showed us that some hammers were sitting forward too much when in resting position, which made it less forgiving when a key needed to be played repeatedly. As for the heavy keys I had an issue with, he explained to me that there was a lot of friction and he reduced it, but said if it came back, WE HAVE THE OPTION TO REPLACE THE HAMMERS. Our technician reshaped the hammers, performed tuning [it was supposedly in tune before, but according to my iPhone app, it's even more in tune now], voicing and regulation over the course of two days. Our kids have not made any complaints since of stuck keys or keys not making sounds. And we overheard our piano teacher telling our kids that the piano sounds better now. I also no longer have a problem with the heavy keys. read more
