Natalia, our hostess and educator, is absolutely amazing. She brings great energy, deep knowledge, and makes each tasting feel personal and memorable. The only downside from our most recent visit was learning that the complimentary cheese plate is no longer automatically offered to members of certain tiers. That was a small touch that really set The Prisoner apart from other wineries and made the experience feel even more special. It was something we genuinely looked forward to every time. We still love everything about The Prisoner and will continue to visit and support, but we do hope they reconsider bringing that perk back--it made a great experience even better.

The wine they make you can only buy at the winery and most of it is good and a few bottles are really good. For the tasting you pick 5 from a much larger list and with all tastings at pretty much all wineries we have been to there are always extra splashes of a few other wines as well, typically with the verbage along the lines of, "This one was opened by accident so may as well pour it" or "The new guy thought it was on the list today", or "We just found these in the back and thought it would be a treat". Funny how the extra pours always seem to be on sale by the bottle, Today Only!!! Need to get that FOMO in. Speaking of by the bottle. After the tasting we grabbed a bottle of champs and headed over to the deli for a baguette, cheese and some grapes and onward to the grass. I was eyeballing some tasty looking prosciutto, salami and other assorted meat goodies but opted out since I would be the only one devouring them. Pro tip....if going to buy a bottle for an onsite bring your own wine glasses to avoid the small plastice tumblers. We usually carry double walled stemless aluminum champs and wine glasses with us if not for picknicking for use in hotel rooms and by the hot tub. There were five of us in our group and none of us had been wine tasting, ever and 3 of us are over 60. The grounds are beautiful and very clean! While we were paying for our package, we were informed that we would be given some extras like more red wines to taste that didn't count toward our 5 wines along with some handmade chocolates. While it was a little warm out, we decided that we wanted to sit outside as we knew our group could get loud. Thankfully, the patio area was lined with misters We were also thankful that Tuesdays aren't a super busy day! Adam was our sommelier, I had to look this up. Adam chatted with us a little to find out what each of us was looking forward to in our wines. I won't bore you with which wines we tried as they are all very good. While the usual time for group like ours should have taken about 60 minutes, we were there closer to 2 hours. Adam helped us with so many delicious wines, taking time to explain what this wine would pair well with, etc. Something that I discovered that I actually do like a good red wine. I guess the red wines that I tried years prior were not so good. We all ended up purchasing several bottles of the wines that we had tried. When we were leaving, there was a gift store with more of the delicious handmade chocolates that we had tried on the patio. There was only the two piece size available but Adam was able to speak with a manager getting as a great deal as the 5 piece box was available. He worked it out so I was able to purchase 3 boxes of the 2 pieces boxes for the same price as the 5 piece box. I had planned on giving these as gifts so it worked wonderfully for me. Since the time of our outstanding wine tasting experience, I have recommended and raved about Todd and PEJU winery to friends and family who appreciate and value high quality wines and winery experiences. There was a large concrete fountain in front with a small shallow moat surrounding part of the exterior. The water sounded very refreshing on this hot day. As soon as you walk inside you'll discover the large mural resembling an Italian stained glass window with a wine rack below it. We were shuttered into the wine barrel area where we had a table reserved for thanks to our member-friends. It was at near closing time for tasting but they accommodated our late arrival. We tried the standard tasting menu with several others not on it. Our friends ordered some appetizers to pair w some of the wines like truffle chips w dip and duck tartine with toast. They were delish and made me drink more. Even though this was my 3rd winery of the day that started at 9:30am, I was feeling like the wine at Peju tasted fantastic. Our host, Joseph was superb. He was very funny and engaging and presented each wine with its background and what qualities to look for. Unfortunately, it was one of our last stops, so we couldn't take any bottles home with us. This time, we made sure Orin Swift was our very first stop, and it did not disappoint. The wines are fantastic, but what really makes the experience special is the hospitality. Marcel was an incredible host: knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely passionate about the wines. He made the tasting both educational and fun, and he was so easy to talk to that the experience felt more like spending time with a friend than a typical wine tasting. The tasting room itself is beautiful and filled with the unique artwork and personality that Orin Swift is known for. If you're planning a visit, I highly recommend requesting Marcel. He made an already great experience even better. We're so glad we made Orin Swift our first stop this trip. Not only did we get to enjoy another amazing tasting, but this time we finally got to bring a few bottles home with us too.

Our tour guide was knowledgeable sharing about the history of the vineyard and answering questions the guests had. He also poured a little more of the wines he brought out if we wanted more. At the end of the tour, he brought out a red and a white wine. Thought we would taste more wines while inside. We arrived here around noon on a Sunday, and it was perfect timing as there was still plenty of parking! They had a huge market where they sold bottle of wine, meat and cheese. Just a ton of options! There is a large lawn in the front with picnic benches. So if you have kids, this is a great option for them to be able to run around! There is also a gelato truck and food truck. We ended up getting gelato and I ordered ceviche from the food truck. The ceviche was so fresh and definitely something I would order again! Overall this is a great pit spot vineyard as you come in or heading out of Napa.
