My husband and I spent last weekend here to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and we absolutely loved it! This was our 3rd time visiting Featherbed and 1st time under this new management and I have to say we were so impressed by all the upgrades. The room was very nice and comfortable and the food was delicious. They had treats and baked goods out at check in that were delicious. Also loved all the Halloween decor. Can't wait to come back next year!

Featherbed Railroad Bed & Breakfast is pure magic--something photos just can't capture. My 7-year-old daughter and I arrived as a light shower misted the air, turning onto the quiet street to find the most charming B&B I've ever seen. Nestled right by the lake, this place feels like stepping into a dream, with vintage train cabooses turned into cozy, themed suites, each packed with thoughtful touches--down to the floss. Mornings start with a delicious homemade breakfast, and evenings are best spent with a glass of red wine or a hot cup of coffee by the giant hearth in the dining room. The whole place is wrapped in warmth, from the open grassy spaces perfect for wandering to the friendly faces that make you feel at home the second you arrive. And the animals! Swans, geese, and ducks gliding across the water, and now they've even got chickens. My daughter was in heaven, running around spotting them all, completely enchanted. It's incredibly clean, kid-friendly, and even dog-friendly. When it was time to leave, she just wasn't ready. And honestly? Neither was I. Walking past the old train cars, through the peaceful greenery, sipping wine and soaking in the stillness--it's an experience that lingers long after you're gone. If you're looking for a peaceful, one-of-a-kind escape, this is it.

We are here for our mini honeymoon! This place is absolutely beautiful!! It is so quiet and romantic and cozy! Each rail car has its own theme. We stayed in "wine country". The owners are friendly and make sure you have everything you need. We will definitely be telling everyone about it and coming back again. I love that there is a book that the guests write in inside the rail cars. It rained while we were here and it smelled so good and it was so fresh! The view of Clear Lake is beautiful!

We absolutely loved our stay at the featherbed railroad. We stayed in the Midnight in Paris for my wife's birthday. Jaime was so hospitable and helped us feel really at home. Breakfast was perfect and we played Ticket To Ride on the front porch overlooking the lake and all the caboose rail cars. The place was magical :)

What a great getaway! Each train car has a unique character. The hot tub in our train car and all the amenities made it the most comfortable stay! The staff was super friendly. The swimming pool was nice and clean! I can't recommend it enough.

My husband found Featherbed Railroad and asked if we could stay here for his birthday this year. He loves trains. I added a cake to our reservation for his special day and it was waiting there when we checked in. The grounds are cute and garden-like. The pool area is neat and we were allowed to bring our pup inside for a bit while no other guests were there which was really nice. It was my favorite part of the stay and I just love how dog friendly they are here. We also had a funny encounter with a wild turkey in the pool area and it is something we have been laughing about ever since. Making great memories is what traveling is all about. We stayed in the wine country caboose because it is one of two dog friendly ones they have. It's a little ironic because we don't drink, but from previous reviews we learned it has the better view of the water. It has a big jetted tub and a cupola you can climb up into as well as all the basic amenities like a tv, small fridge, coffee maker, etc. They also have DVDs you can borrow which was great because we spent a good amount of time in the caboose. Breakfasts are included and they are lovely; homemade with love and super delicious. They have cats on the grounds and our pup was being a little annoying and curious at our first breakfast on the patio, so the next day, we were able to get breakfast to go and bring it back to the caboose. It was a very unique kitschy experience and I am so glad my hubby was able to have a noteworthy birthday here.

What a unique and fun weekend getaway. My husband rides Harley's so we stayed in the Easy Rider caboose. He LOVED it. Spent good half hour checking out all the details and taking pics to send to his buddies. It was a hit. Nailed it!. Lol. The location is peaceful and quiet. The breakfast was really good and our hosts were so warm and welcoming. We had an awesome time and will be back. Highly recommend this place.

We greatly enjoyed our couples getaway weekend in such a unique and cozy bed and breakfast. We booked three rooms, a caboose converted into a hotel room with their individual bathrooms (one thing to note is there isn't a shower but a bath tub that has a hand held shower head). Each room has a unique theme. We stayed in the Easy Rider, Casablanca, and Wine Country. The rooms had cleaver decorations to compliment each theme. We all commented on how well we slept and how good quality the sheets were. Breakfast was delivered to our door in the morning and tasted phenomenal. We found a picnic bench on the property to enjoy it outside. We also walked across the street to the dock to enjoy the views of the lake. We are all excited to come back and stay again and check out a different caboose!

We had a three day mini getaway here during the Sac heatwave, and It was awesome! We stayed in Easy Rider and loved everything about it. The Owners are so nice and accommodating. We loved chatting with Paul and June and June's breakfasts were SO, SO tasty! We spent the cool mornings looking out at the lake from our caboose and their private dock. The grounds are beautiful and so inviting. Spent the afternoons hiking nearby, visiting the local towns, and came back to a nice dip in their pool. We will absolutely be back. It's our mission to stay in every caboose!

A quite railcar themed Inn. Staff very efficient and non intrusive. Wonderful views and nice neighborhoods to stroll in. Right on the Clearlake shore.

The gorgeous sunset view from the Boathouse Bar & Grill just down the street.

After a little bit of poking around, it seemed Lakeport would be perfect (thanks to Christine G's review); neither of us had really been here before, and the Forbestown Inn was reasonably priced for a B&B on a holiday weekend ($120, about half what some of the Napa B&B's were charging!). We called up the Inn from the Bay Area and Pat let us know there was a room available; she asked of our arrival time so she could make sure the room was made up and cool by the time we were to arrive. When we showed up to this adorable site (after a nearly four hour drive) she greeted us and gave us some pointer on dinner, the WiFi password, and keys. We stayed in the Anna room. The house and rooms were classically appointed in the VIctorian style that seems to pervade most B&Bs, with frill and antique, though not overdone. The bed was a queen-size (which felt a touch on the small size) but the rooms were reasonably large and the bathrooms were pretty spacious (though down two steps, interestingly enough!). The overall setup was just gorgeous with a backyard to lounge in and very easy access to all of Lakeport's main attractions (we watched the "boat races" at the Speedway, NOTE: NOT ON WATER - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivLX2Hu9iqU). Breakfast was an omelette (in truth, more like a frittata) with portabello mushrooms and red peppers, with a good strong coffee. My girl and I were trying to cut down on carbs, so we asked for no bread, but the other couple at the breakfast table raved about the French toast. After the other couple left, we actually had the whole run of the place to ourselves and lounged by the pool. Delightful. :) Overall, charming and an excellent value; you'll find this a really fun, sweet, and random getaway. To Lakeport!

Inspired by our cottage theme, we played our favorite music during the days (without the fear of disturbing anyone) and enjoyed stargazing on our private porch at night. The room was well cleaned every day and supplied with ample towels for our days on the lake. The terrific hosts (R and F) kept the main house open for us to use the kitchen, access to free drinks and fruits, and access to Internet (I strongly urge you to stay off-line as long as possible). True to country hospitality, when we found a lack of venues for dinner, they invited us to a gracious family dinner. Many thanks for welcoming us into your family and home. There's also a beautiful beach less than a 5-minute drive away, making it the perfect balance of farm and coast. At Mar Vista, fresh eggs are delivered to your cottage every day. On our last day, we noticed every single egg in our egg basket was blue! We realized Cab or Deanna had probably hand-picked the blue eggs for us after learning that our toddler was in a phase where she loved everything blue. It was such a thoughtful gesture that meant so much to us. And who knew eggs came in so many beautiful colors? That was one of many incredible things we learned/experienced at Mar Vista. (Doesn't have to be romantic; can also be fun with girlfriends!) This is an absolutely beautiful 3-bedroom home equipped with everything you can think of for a good time: full kitchen, dining area, patio with BBQ grill, fire pit, plenty of tables and chairs, and we even saw hammocks hanging on some trees! The rooms can be individually booked, or you can book all three for your friends and family. The home sits on a vineyard, so you get to taste their delicious wines. In the dining/living room area, you have access to games and a projector that is connected to Apple TV, so you can project a movie on the wall! How cool is that?! DANIEL gave us the best wine-tasting experience we have ever had. His explanations were thorough and very interesting. It went beyond the "peppery notes with hints of berries" descriptions you usually get at wineries. He explained the winemaking process because he has done it all, from planting grapes to making wine. And he was very kind and patient with all of our questions. And up the hill a little bit there is another home that they rent as well, and if it is vacant, you get full access to the pool! Another thing I appreciated now during covid is that the entire home was very clean! No carpet in the rooms (which makes it feel instantly cleaner already), the sheets smelled of fresh laundry detergent, and the shower was spotless. The rooms also have beautiful wooden patios. And then in the morning, we got a delicious hot breakfast by Gunay! She was so sweet and hospitable. On a sad note, they no longer have the llamas or sheep. But it is still a great experience! Also, don't be scared when you are following the GPS to arrive here! It's literally in the middle of no where! The grounds are well kept and the inn is clean, with clear potential to be a truly special place. However, at nearly $700 per night on a weekend, the experience fell well short of expectations. The property feels underinvested. The furnishings are dated and worn rather than intentionally antique, and the bathroom is significantly outdated. Towels were also visibly old and frayed. The biggest issue was the bed. It was extremely uncomfortable--more like old, degraded foam than a supportive mattress--and made sleep difficult, with noticeable motion transfer even with a partner. We pulled back the bedding and found an old foam topper over a worn, stained mattress. Using a photo of the manufacturer's label, we determined the mattress was manufactured in September 1996 and likely purchased at Square Deal Mattress Factory in Chico, CA. If accurate, that would make the mattress over 30 years old, which is far beyond any reasonable replacement cycle for a hospitality property at this price point. Breakfast was also disappointing--limited, mostly store-bought items such as stale croissants, basic English muffins, and very weak coffee with minimal quality or attention to detail. In summary, Cottage Grove Inn has a beautiful setting, clean rooms, and excellent staff, but the lack of investment in core comfort elements--especially beds, bathrooms, and furnishings--makes the value difficult to justify. I would not return at the current price level without significant updates.
