I agree that the food alone is worth the trip! June and Paul made us a delicious and hearty breakfast of sausage and cheesy egg grits with homemade granola, fresh fruit and a salad. Their kind hearted dog, Jay, greeted us with courtesy and puppy eyes. A station-house filled with free DVDs and books gave a home away from home feeling. The caboose was comfortable (they put on the air conditioning before we arrived) and clean and cozy. The only thing missing was the click and clack of the tracks if we had been riding in a real caboose, but I slept soundly nonetheless. read more

This place is super quaint and romantic! The service is great-- friendly innkeepers, blueberry lavender french toast for breakfast (so much nicer than the standard croissant basket 'n OJ you often get at B&Bs), a whole wall full of games and movies you can take back to your room... My girlfriend and i stayed in the Casablanca room, which was a dream, full of cute Casablanca references. Our only disappointment was that the piano (one of the reasons we chose that room) was too out of tune to play... but after a few minutes in the giant jacuzzi I didn't care. read more

I like trains and thought it would be awesome to stay overnight in a train car when I came across the Featherbed Railroad website. I really loved it! It was a great weekend getaway for someone who lives in the Bay Area. I chose the Tropicaboose and found the decor to be relaxing, inviting, and fun. Unfortunate our stay was not as good as we had hoped. We were greeted with "this is not a good time" when we went to check in. I understand running a business is rough but you don't greet your guest that way. The bathroom towels were damp and not fully dry after a bath. Yuck. Endearing and unexpected quirky qualities make this place a wonderful retreat, despite its chipped paint and occasionally unkempt areas near the side/back of the otherwise magical and adorable lot. Service seemed good with cleaning staff. Owners/operators were unbelievably good hosts the day after my sister's wedding that we had there this past Sunday. Food in the morning was ridiculously good, seriously, with all the little "extras" you could possibly ever need (Sriracha sauce, etc). The coffee was to die for! The cabooses are a bit dated (but in process of being refreshed it seems) but have undeniable charm and fun built right into them. I would not hesitate to come back! read more

I purchased a gift certificate for my parents as an anniversary gift last year. They had been able to use it yet so I suggested to my dad that he use it this year for their 35th. He agreed and I proceeded to make the reservations. Peggy and Tony are absolutely wonderful. Fantastic customer service. I was able to arrange a few surprises for my parents (limo ride around the the lake, tour of two of the local vineyards and dinner all paid in advance.) My parents had such a wonderful time. They praised everyone they met and they loved, absolulety loved the Featherbed. Their room was wonderful and they can't wait to get back. Peggy and Tony are simply brillant. We had so much fun here! Hanging out in our (not so little, really) red caboose, soaking and bubbling in our jacuzzi while drinking local Lake County wine, sitting in our little upstairs cupola and gazing out at beautiful Clear Lake on a rainy morning-- it was all so lovely and out-of-the-ordinary. The very friendly proprietors provided scrumptious breakfasts for us -- we asked for vegetarian food, and we got super-delicious meals. They were very friendly and interesting folks who gave us some great tips on things to do and places to go in the area. A great weekend trip from the SF Bay Area. Very clean, picturesque, unique, romantic. We stayed in the Wine Country train car, and we look forward to returning to try out some of the other cars' fun themes. read more

Celebrated our anniversary their and stayed in the Casablanca caboose. My wife and I had a great time. The room was clean and the breakfast prepared by the owners Tony & Peggy were awesome. This B&B is one of my favorite places in California. It consists of refurbished cabooses, complete with jacuzzi tubs and beautiful, themed decor. The grounds are shady and cool, and June and Paul try to accommodate every guests needs. I have been there twice with a group. They entertained us with a wine tasting and hor d'eurves and a barbeque the next evening. The breakfasts are inventive and delicious. Love the berry bread pudding. And the eggs Benedict in puff pastry was to die for! And Jake, the boxer, is the sweetest, friendliest dog I have ever met. I highly recommend this lovely spot on Clear Lake. read more

Several years back my husband and I stayed here in the "Easy Rider Room". We were going to a concert at Konocti and rooms were sold out everywhere. One of my coworkers recommended that I look up a little place called The Featherbed Railroad. Well to this day I am very thankful that the "other hotels" had no rooms the nights we needed. The Featherbed was fantastic! Our Caboose had a large jacuzzi hot tub in the middle of the room. It was all decked out in leather, with leather and riveted chairs with fringe. Harley Davidson was well represented. The staff was so sweet and friendly, and breakfast was sent to our caboose in the morning. Now I don't normally like Eggs Benedict as I do eat runny yolk, but this...OMGoodness, this had a fully cooked yolk! It's like it was made just for me. For the first time in my life I got to eat Eggs Benedict and it was Amazingly Delicious!!!! After you eat make sure to sign the Cabooses Guest Book before you head out. Now idk if there is a book in every room but before the end of next year I plan on doing some over night research and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for something a little different and fun. read more

Very nice establishment in a pretty quite location. Lake is just across the B&B and they have their own boardwalk. The whole idea of converting old caboose into a B&B was brilliant and they have maintained it quite well. I should say the setup in our caboose was a bit old but it was clean and inviting. They have multiple choices varying from 140-190$, which might be a bit higher considering the what the area has to provide. The innkeepers are really warm and hospitable. They helped us change our reservations at a short notice and also mailed some stuff we left back. I would give 5 stars just for the warm hospitality we got when we stayed at their B&B. I was pretty impressed by the breakfast we were served with innkeepers giving individual attention to folks. I would like to highlight though, this place is basically the only thing which would make me visit Lake County again. The towns are old and there is not much to do. read more

We had a great stay at the Featherbed Railroad Bed and Breakfast in Nice, CA at Clearlake. The owners, Tony and Peggy, are very nice people. We went during Thanksgiving and all the guests are invited to join Tony and Peggy for Thanksgiving dinner. The place is really neat and each Caboose has a different theme. The grounds are just beautiful and it's right across the street from the lake. They have a really cool swing that's fun too. They also have a swimming pool and spa that is open during the summer. The breakfasts were delicious. I loved everything they served. It's not your typical breakfast, much better. I highly recommend this place for a very unique experience. How often do you get to sleep in a caboose. read more

On a lark, I googled for "train" and "B&B" and found the Featherbed Railroad B&B. What a find! As others have described, this B&B is ideally situated right on the shores of Clear Lake -- a gorgeous view whether or not you indulge in some water sports during your visit. But of course, the main attraction is the "rooms" themselves: actual train cabooses on bits of track, all situated in a beautiful grove of trees. Each one is decorated differently. We stayed in the Casablanca caboose, complete with a jacuzzi and piano. The room, although nicely decorated, felt a bit worn at the edges: the mini-fridge didn't work, and the bathroom faucet dripped, but these were so minor it's hardly worth mentioning them. I had the best night's sleep I've had in a while in the caboose, and was utterly thrilled with every detail. There are so many great aspects of this B&B. We didn't get a chance to ride the tandem bike, though I would have loved that. There are bits of train memorabilia and details everywhere -- fun to explore! The price was higher than I would normally pay for a night's vacation, but given its uniqueness, totally worth it. The breakfast was a little light, although delicious: a German pancake with fruit on top, a sausage, sorbet, and juice and tea. I can also recommend Sicily's Cucina, an Italian restaurant in nearby Lakeport, which Peggy and Tony pointed us to for dinner. The food was truly outstanding -- a wonderful experience. Overall, I would have loved to stay for an entire weekend. There's so much to explore here, including hiking trails and other great sights. And more nights in a caboose! read more

I find this place charming, beautiful, private and fun. The owners aim to please totally. The cabooses are each different, but each has a jacuzzi/hot tub and the MOST comfy bed. It's right on Clear Lake, which is just gorgeous, no matter what the weather. Lots to do, if you choose...or just wonderful if you choose to do nothing but relax. The morning breakfasts are yummy. Stayed there and enjoyed the stay and bought some friends that we also surprised them with the Harley Davidson room. I was in the Theme Caboose,(Celebrations) I don't know what theme it was, somebody said the Art room. I was not very happy with the train I stayed in because of the smell of mold. Just a hint when vacuuming, make sure you get the corners and around and under the bed and the back of the headboard. We stayed 2 nights for 2 rooms with a discount and cost around 700.00 and I would never do that again because if you don't like it you can't opt out. I was surprised that at breakfast and even when we ran into Peggy and Tony we were never asked how was our stay. I had to go to the office and ask for some air freshner because I just could not stand the smell of mold. I did appreciate the breakfast, but I get hungry in the morning and I did not get enough and since I was not asked how was our stay, i dare not ask for seconds, lol. We did walk across the street to the pier and it was so many spider webs and bird crap there we came back. I will be back but will try the Harley Davidson room or the Orient Express because those rooms were very nice and well put together or will just try another room period. I would advise everybody to at least try this because it was a very good adventure and I am sure you will enjoy it. I am sort of a germaphobic so that is why I see most things others don't see or won't look for. And don't get me wrong, the few times I talked to Tony and Peggy they were very curtious and hospitable, and pleasant. They have Wi-Fi but we never got it to work and probably because of the fact that all of the trains are metal and I just don't think it will work well unless you had a Wi-Fi in each room. If Tony and Peggy ever read this and all of the Yelps act on them because I am mad because I never thought of this, and it seems to a brilliant idea. Book your stay, enjoy, and relax! read more

Stayed here one night on a Monday, in the Casablanca Caboose. It was great. A surprising amount of room, a nice spa for two, and a comfortable bed. We've stayed in theme rooms before (like the Madonna Inn) but have never seen this level of attention to detail. There was a piano, with sheet music to Time Goes By open. An old style radio. Rick's hat and trench coat. Lots of books on the movie, and even a model of the airplane at the end. They even call you before your visit to see if you have any breakfast restrictions. The breakfast, corned beef hash, was very good, served in their common area with lots of train stuff, including trains that run overhead. I'm only a minor train buff and I liked it, if you are a big train buff you'll love it. Tom really cares about his guests - he was doing an experiment to see which kind of battery lasted longest in the motion sensor lights so no one would have to walk in the dark. Nice pier across the street. We were lazy and walked to the bar/restaurant down the street which they recommended - and were pleasantly surprised. Excellent cod with a wonderful lemon sauce, Very relaxing. Breakfast is from 9 - 10 which was just right for us. I'd be happy to go back. :Lots of other theme cars look like fun too. read more

My girlfriend booked a weekend stay here a couple of weeks ago. When we arrived, they couldn't find her reservation, but they had a room available for $186.00(?)/night + tax. Not unreasonable for a good B&B. This was NOT a good B&B by any standards. The room looked pleasant enough on first sight. But then she noticed the mildew in the grouting around the tub. Then she noticed the instructions on using the hot tub. We had to chuckle at the fact that the tub had an 80 gal. capacity, but the water heater only had a 40 gal. capacity. They need to change the name of the thing to "mildewy tepid tub". The meals were barely edible. Not due to the food its self, but it was usually barely warm at best. This was most likely due to the long wait we had before our food arrived & part of that time the food must've been sitting on plates, waiting to be delivered to our table. The bed in our room felt like the mattress was long over due to be replaced... lumpy. We don't see ourselves staying here again. Kind of a drag though, the place is in a beautiful setting, with the lake right there and all. And I must admit, the grounds of the place were immaculately kept. read more

what a wonderful surprise to find such an "oasis" amidst the quaintness of Lake County. We were greeted upon our arrival with friendliness and hospitality that is such an unexpected treat in today's busy accommodation world. We were delighted to see our "caboose" themed "Margaritaville." This was so appropriate for my birthday stay!!! Awaiting our arrival was a tray of small plates to enjoy. The best view in our caboose was from the cupola sharing wine and tapas! The home-cooked breakfast was better then some of the finest brunch restaurants. The owners even packed us a breakfast to-go, because we were leaving early on our final day. The owners also with so knowledgable of where to eat, what to do and if they couldn't help you, they had an array of packets detailing the area of what to do. My wife and I highly recommend this beautiful place on the lake for a get-away from the busy life of the city. My boyfriend and I just stayed the weekend at Featherbed Railroad and Tony and Peggy were awesome hosts! They fixed us homemade breakfasts every morning, were quick to help us with directions and suggestions of things to do in the area. The train cars were fun little rooms, a very unique experience. They are very well decorated and equipped just like a hotel room. The whole experience feels very cozy and different from anything you'd be able to find anywhere else. The beds are amazingly comfortable, with the softest sheets I've ever slept in! The cherry on the cake was when I happen to forget my purse in a restaurant 30 minutes away from Featherbed and had already driven almost all the way to SF by the time I noticed. Tony so kindly offered to drive there, pick it up for me and overnight it to me. How nice is that? They are very down to earth, funny and sweet people. Definitely recommend a stay there, it's a perfect place for a relaxing weekend away from everything, phones, TVs, traffic, people. Thanks Tony and Peggy :) read more

Love this place! this is the 2nd year my husband & I spent our wedding anniversary at Featherbed Railroad. Last year we had the "Easy Rider" Harley theme room. It was really cute. This caboose had a 2 person Jacuzzi bathtub in the room which was really nice. The bed truly is so comfortable and soft. We had breakfast at the main dining room which was very tasty. The best part is that they have a private pier/fishing dock. We are outdoorsy people so we enjoyed fishing and launched our jet-skis for some fun in the lake. In the evening it was really nice to retreat to our cozy caboose. Very Romantic! This year we stayed again over Labor day and we had the "La Loose Caboose" New Orleans theme room. Loved this room too! It has it's own mini-porch facing the lake which was worth the few extra bucks! This room also has a 2 person jacuzzi which was nice. The owners are really nice and they do a great job at making the rooms feel like you are at home! Definitely a great place to escape for a romantic weekend. We are looking forward to going back next year for our 19th anniversary...or maybe sooner! read more

We were passing through Clear Lake on our way to Sonoma. We were tired and weary from the road and accidentally came across The Featherbed. When we came across the multiple cabooses across the street from the beautiful Clear Lake, we knew we had found our place for the evening. Upon check in, we found the owners to be extremely friendly and accommodating by their friendliness and local hospitality. After check in, we were invited to dinner with the owners and a few of the other locals to the area, to get more of a "I belong here", type of feeling. After dinner we were able to adventure out on The Featherbeds private deck on the northern side of Clear Lake where we were able to peer across the lake on a moonlit evening. To finish an evening in a caboose with a soak in a private hot tub and an extremely comfortable feather bed(by a picky lady's expectations) cannot be beat. In the morning they offered us an amazing 3 course breakfast that supplied us with the energy and the happiness to continue our ventures to the coast. I plan on returning to The Featherbed Railroad and will tell all my friends and family to make sure this is a destination. read more
