Great place I had to check out while in DC. The staff was helpful as it was my first time there. The Texas flood sandwich was suggested. The dinning room and restroom were very clean. I loved the swamp cooler blowing full blast cause it was a scorcher of a day. The sandwich was delicious and flavorful and the beer.... Well come on it's cold beer! Yum!
the tofu banh mi is seriously one of the most delicious sandwiches i have ever had. i don't even like pickles but they worked so well with the sticky garlic sauce and the fried tofu that i didn't mind them at all. the sandwich is PACKED with tofu and every bite is amazing. it's so nice that they clearly put as much thought into their vegetarian option as everything else on the menu. i went back later with a different group of friends to try the dessert and the oreo pudding is also really yummy!!!
First timer here, the food was amazing but the service was lacking. If I wasn't already knowledgeable about Texas cafeteria style dining I would be completely lost. The protein portion for what you pay is above average but flavor is impeccable. We got the brisket, rib tips, spare ribs, pork shoulder, turkey, fed rib sandwich and jalapeño sausage. For sides we also had a variety- Mac and cheese, green beans, potato salad, broccoli, Cole slaw, baked beans, and Brussel sprouts. All sides were meh. Overall I would go again but just for the meats. I also added a picture of the menu since pricing wasn't available online.

The employee at the register was extremely helpful, took the time to answer our questions, and made it easy to decide what to order. One thing to know before you go is that the menu on the wall doesn't include prices, so it was a little difficult to know what everything cost while ordering. The food itself had great flavor, and everything we tried was well prepared. The sides were generous and were a highlight of the meal. The meat portions were a little smaller than we expected, but the overall quality of the food made it an enjoyable experience. Overall, it's a great BBQ spot with friendly service, and we'd recommend giving it a try if you're in the area.
Recently went with a group of six and the food is so much better than I remembered! We ordered the pitmaster special for two and it was easily split among four people. Food came out quickly and everything is self serve which is great - you get your own bbq sauce, plenty of napkins, wet wipes, and even take out containers. Only dislike was the special I ordered - bbq jalapeño popper wontons were just nothing special and thus not worth the price. They also charge a 3% service charge with the expectation to tip for counter service which is no bueno.
This was my first time here and overall, it was a great experience. I went with my family of 4 and we had the Feed the Fam and it was more than enough food. We had the brisket, wings, pulled pork, ribs, french fries, brussel sprouts, bbq beans, and mac & cheese. My favorites were the wings and the ribs. Both had amazing flavors (rubbed and without sauce) and were cooked beautifully. Their fries were nicely seasoned, and their mac and cheese was also delicious. My least favorite thing I tried was the bbq beans. They had an overpowering celery flavor that I was not a fan of. I don't live in the area, but if I am ever back in the area, I would eat here again.
This is a nice little barbecue joint in downtown DC. There is limited street parking available out front of the restaurant and within a reasonable walking distance. This restaurant serves all of your favorites including ribs, chicken, brisket, wings, sandwiches, turkey and sausage. You will find a decent sized dining area and pretty large patio area out front of the restaurant. I placed a to-go order, online, and it was ready for me when I got there. I ordered the pork belly, brisket burned ends, baked beans and sweet potato casserole. My food was amazing. Every part of it was packed with flavor and simply delicious. The baked beans had a little kick to them, just like I like it. The meats were tender and juicy. And what can I say about the casserole.....mmmmmmm. The sides were a decent size. The meats' portions were a bit on the smaller side, if you ask me. I was still full after I ate my meal though. If that was not enough, I got some banana pudding to finish off my meal. And, yup, you guessed it. It was delicious too. This place has some very good food. I highly recommend checking the, out and I hope to make it back here real soon.
I have been craving bbq for WEEKS and finally made it to Fed Pig! I used to live in KC so I take my bbq very seriously and it definitely lived up to my expectations. I ordered the two step combo with pulled pork and fatty brisket and it was delicious. The brisket was fork tender and flavorful and the pulled pork with little crispy onions was good as well. Loved the sauce station and always appreciate when counter restaurants have a water jug! I got mac and cheese and fries as my side. The mac could have used a bit more seasoning but was super creamy and cheesy. Texas toast and homemade pickles were also delish! I had a banana pudding which they forgot to give me but was able to snag one to go at the counter before I left. I came on a Sunday night around 5:30 which was perfect to get in before the dinner rush. Will definitely be back for more!
Admittedly, I ordered takeout so I can't speak to the service or ambiance of the restaurant itself. However! The food was delicious. We did an order out for the July 4 weekend and the food was ready in a timely manner, despite the holiday chaos. The ribs were fantastic and the brisket was tender. They also season their brussel sprouts quite well. Not my fav BBQ place's mac and cheese, but overall a good plate.
The beef rib was excellent--tender, flavorful, and priced just right. The brisket was a bit on the dry side and definitely better with sauce, while the pork belly stood out as the stronger option between the two. The mac & cheese was a straight 10/10 and easily one of the best bites of the meal. Overall, solid BBQ with a few real highlights.
Great lunch! I had the 2 step that included 2 meats and 2 small side items. I had burnt ends and ribs. Both tasty. Ribs were my favorite. Being from KC I am spoiled with excellent burnt ends at home. Brussel Sprouts and Mac and cheese side items for my sides. Really enjoyed the Brussels. They had several bbq sauces to try that were great. Very clean and reasonable prices. Parking was somewhat of a challenge but not uncommon for this area.
Was excited to go back to this establishment after many years. I saw on social media that they had their version of McRibs, so I had to make a drive out there. I go the FedRib, cheddar mac and cheese, coleslaw, and their street corn salad. FedRib sandwich was great but was little bit too salty, but the key to making it taste was putting their coleslaw into the sandwich for the perfect balance. I also really liked their mac and cheese and their street corn. Bbq sauces they offer were on point too. Only reason they get a star less was I bit into a medium sized bone inside my sandwich. I'd definitely be back in the future for their BBQ.
I was craving some bbq and this place had some of the best reviews in the area so I decided to give it a try. I'm originally from Arkansas and we have some of the best bbq in the country so I wasn't expecting the "best bbq" but as long as it was good, I would be happy. Luckily, this place met my expectations. Let's start with the customer service. The manager took my order and recommended the burnt ends and brisket for my 2 meats after I asked a few questions. I also ordered Mac and cheese and bbq beans as my sides, all to go. As I waited for my food, I picked out the sauces I wanted to try. I decided to try all 5 bbq sauces with me doubling up on mild and sticky garlic. There was plenty of seating and you order your food at the front. They have an area just for picking up your food and they call out your name multiple times so no worries about not hearing your order. I returned home and plated my food. The brisket was good, I give it a 6/10. The burnt ends were also good. I give them a 7/10. The Mac and cheese and the beans both receive a 6/10 from me. My favorite sauces were the mild and sticky garlic. I did not care for the Carolina or mustard sauce at all. The hot bbq was okay. Overall, I've had better bbq but I've also had worse so if I'm craving bbq, this may be the spot I choose.
The food was good a couple tastes we're unexpected, the beans had vinegar and had a spicy kick. The brussels sprouts were a little ground down not my favorite. The meats were tasty though and pretty good. We got family meal and all the meats were good like I said. Service was good. Ambiance was a good hangout place with bbq. Vibe: Stopped by Federalist Pig to try their wings. Quick in-and-out type experience, nothing special atmosphere-wise. Food: Ordered the 12 wings and garlic parm broccoli. The wings were just okay. Three of them were split (see picture), and I personally don't eat those because the meat tastes different to me, so it ended up feeling more like a 9-piece. The garlic parm broccoli looked good, you could see the parmesan on it, but it tasted sweet . I didn't finish it. Service / Timing: Food came out in a reasonable time. Value $27.50 for 12 wings and broccoli feels high for what I got. Not worth the price to me. Highlight: I don't know Wrap-Up: Overall it was just okay. Between the split wings and the sweet broccoli, it didn't live up to the price tag for me. read more

Been having this place on my list for a minute. Let's just say it could have stayed on the list. It was okay. Nothing to rave about. Our meats were lukewarm when we got our food. The pork belly was really good. The wings were okay. The brisket burnt ends didn't have the texture of brisket. They really seemed to be sauced chuck roast as they were very chewy with little bark. The mac and cheese was okay, definitely needed more seasoning and cheese. The pulled pork was alright. The Brussels were good. Overall- we'd give it a 6 out of 10. read more
The wife and I finally got out to check out Federalist Pig (FedPig), because we have heard great things about it. We both are from Central VA and grew up on Carolina BBQ, so we both know how hard it is to find great BBQ in NOVA...and it's HARD lol. TLDR: FedPig is the best BBQ spot we have been to in NOVA so far, although it's not at our extremely high bar of BBQ standards set by places in North Carolina & Southern VA. It's certainly worth a visit. As always when I go to a BBQ joint for the first time, I'm always going to get a sampler so I can find what you do best. We opted for the 3-meat sampler and got brisket, ribs, and pork belly. Everything was pretty good. I like how they ask lean or moist cut on the brisket, which is a plus, most places won't give you the option. For myself and my wife the brisket was the best meat on the plate. The 2nd for me were the ribs, they had a great bite and flavor. My only critique is whoever made the plate gave me the tough end piece as a part of the 3 bones you receive. It was not appetizing, that part is always tough, chewy, and dry, they should've just thrown that out or gave me an extra bone WITH that piece. To round out the criticism we both were not a fan of the Smoked Oxtail Empanadas. They weren't nasty, they just weren't worth the money we paid for them. We both would've rather opted to get another meat or wings for that matter. One small but great touch is the fact that they lightly toast and butter their slice bread, which was great. My favorite BBQ place doesn't even do that, so great touch for FedPig on that one. Our sides were decent, we never really go to BBQ places for the sides, but overall, they were good and recommended. It just all comes down to preparation preferences. The inside is a modern/rustic feel of your current BBQ spot where there is a hand cleaning station and close to that is your self-serve station of all sauces, 2oz cups, and to-go containers. And there is decent amount of seating available being its located in DC. If you are ever in the area and want some BBQ I certainly recommend FedPig. read more
Ugh I love Federalist Pig. What's not to love? Smokey meats, flavorful sides, and tasty desserts! We ended up trying a whole bunch of items so that we could taste the menu. To be fair though, the menu is HUGE so we only hit a dent in it (aka: we get to come back). We did the four meats and four sides option and ordered the chopped brisket (they ran out of sliced, but this was the highlight of the platter in my opinion), the pork rib tips, pulled pork, and pork belly. We also got the jimmy muscles chicken sandwich. For sides, we ordered the brussel sprouts, mac and cheese, Cole slaw, BBQ Beans, and French fries. And not pictured is the lemon blueberry hand pie and the Oreo pudding. I think the best meat was the brisket but they were all perfectly seasoned! The chicken sandwich was very good and messy in the best way possible. Every side hit (my personal fave was the mac and cheese but my friends LOVED the BBQ beans). The desserts were also great! I'd love to come back for happy hour because the prices are great. Already the prices are really good for what you get, but I love the idea of a $15 beer pitcher! The service was super quick and I loved the industrial vibes in the restaurant! It was super great energy! I have no bad things to say! read more
What can I say? This spot has been a favorite since day one, and I've happily eaten my way through most of the menu. The standouts? Melt-in-your-mouth pork belly, juicy brisket, tender ribs, and crispy fried chicken wings that hit every time. The sides deserve just as much love--creamy mac and cheese, classic potato salad, hearty beans, and recently, their corn, which is next-level good. Even the sandwiches are stacked with flavor and always done right. The best part? Consistency. No matter what I order, it's always on point. It takes a while to order and get the food. We came in a group of 3 around 2pm on a weekend. The interior has a modern warehouse feel. The food itself was pricey for the taste and quantity that we received. The meats were also a little dry which seems not great for a BBQ place. Mac and cheese was decent and the potato wedges were the highlight. read more
Let the racks of wood tell you that Federalist Pig takes their smoke seriously. With the family of four meal we had a tour that included brisket, pulled pork shoulder, smoked turkey breast and the smoked chicken. For sides we have the smoked Mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts, bbq beans, and red potato salad. It was a great spread of what they do best. Very good brisket and we choose wet. A serious bbq place that asks you how you like your meat. Some serious sides and a stand out was the bbq beans. Staff worked fast and our order was ready in no time, very friendly. After all this is the Que for the people. Love the to go containers a nice touch to take home what we had left. Hate to have any of this go to waste. read more

Casual dining experience with great BBQ. It's order at the counter and pick up your own order kind of place. So it's not necessarily dependent on service of staff per se. Food was ready fairly quickly. The spare rib and briskets were very good. Also brussel sprouts were delicious. However seasoning in general was a bit on the salty side for me. Price for a BBQ joint is fairly reasonable. It was a good experience. read more
We came here after seeing good reviews. Neither of us are typically BBQ fans and choose BBQ when looking for a place to eat. The inside was big with ample seating. You go into a cove off the to the right and order and the seating is separate out to the left. The cashier who took our order was incredibly helpful. He helped us order for our small kid. They don't have a kids menu but they have options that tend to be catered towards kids. He also helped us save money when we ordered to share. We did the four meats and four sides. We shared the brisket, pork rib tips, chicken, and jalapeño sausages. All of the meat was incredible but my favorite was the brisket. It was tender and fell right apart. The port rib tip was extremely flavorful with fantastic seasoning. The chicken was moist and the sausage was delicious. The meat was ample for two people!! The sides were also incredible. The green beans had a slight kick to them, and they were probably the best I've had. The fries had a nice spicy seasoning and they were big and crispy. The brussel sprouts came with a lot and were super crispy and seasoned with a kick as well. The Mac and cheese was also fabulous and not overly cheesy. All of their BBQ sauce is homemade and they were all great. Our favorite was the mild and the garlic. The garlic was AMAZING. The children's chicken burger was huge and the chicken was delicious and crispy. The bun was also fluffy and had sesame seeds. I would absolutely come again. The food was fabulous and great service! The price is a bit higher than average but well worth it!! read more
